8:30AM

DAYS 1-5 ( JULY 26-30)

Summer heat, July-style. This along with building humidity will be with us through Monday and into Tuesday until a cold front brings the threat of showers and thunderstorms later Tuesday and knocks the humidity and heat back a few notches by the middle of the week. Although a couple troughs still needing to swing through during midweek will keep the threat of a passing shower or storm in places both Wednesday and Thursday.

TODAY: Mostly sunny. More humid. Highs 86-93, cooler Cape Cod. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Humid. Lows 66-73. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Humid. Highs 90-97 except cooler South Coast and Cape Cod. Wind WSW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Humid. Lows 68-75. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly afternoon and evening. Humid. Highs 88-95 except cooler South Coast and Cape Cod. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Humid. Lows 66-73. Wind W under 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly afternoon. Less humid. Highs 85-92. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 60-67. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Risk of a passing shower or thunderstorm. Highs 80-87. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 31 – AUGUST 4)

Cooler, dry end to July then a gradual return to warmth and humidity in the early days of August with limited shower and thunderstorm chances.

DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 5-9)

Weak west to southwest flow aloft with that pattern being “typical” summertime, warm with limited but occasional shower and thunderstorm chances. Also may need to watch for a tropical system threatening the region at some point during this period.

  1. Thank you, TK. Looks to be a wonderful summer week. Yesterday was lovely to sit out under the huge tree at my oldest home.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

Dp down to 61 at Logan. That makes it bearable. Hope it stays that way for at least today.

    1. I hope it stays that way for you too. Not so lucky down here on the south coast of RI where the dp’s are 71-72F. Hopefully, it will mix out a little down here as well this afternoon.

        1. Correct, we are in a state park. In the northeast, most state parks don’t have electric hookups.

We do have a solar panel, so during the day, we are charging a few fans that help.

I’m concerned about Monday night and Tuesday night, in particular. We’ll see how that goes.

The lake in the campground has to be running 80F or a bit higher. The ocean beach is 3 miles down the road and we are waiting that out til the work week.

          1. I may need to talk to my wife about non electric camping in the heart of summer.

15 years ago, I could manage the real warm, uncomfortable nights. Not so much anymore.

          1. Ok, I know where that area is. thanks.
So I presume the ocean beach you mentioned is this one?

  3. Thanks so much, TK!

    Good morning, everyone!

82 already at 0930 with a DP of 69*. It was up to 72* about an hour ago.

Dave, always thinking of you and Mrs. OS in conditions like this. Please stay well and comfortable.

Isaías is warming up in the bullpen. He is the “I” tropical cyclone. Isaías ( ees-ah-EE-ahs ) is Portuguese and Spanish for Isaiah.

Stay well and cool, y’all. Happy Sunday!

    1. Thanks Capt.

We now have 2 ACs installed, one of which would allow
the Mrs. her time on her computer in cooled comfort.

It hasn’t been easy for her as she has constantly felt ill
since the heat and humidity started in June. Cool interludes help, but by the time she starts feeling better, the heat and humidity comes back, For many of us dp in low 60s is comfortable, but the humidity starts affecting her
at dp = 60 and the higher the dp, the worse it is for her.

You are so kind sir. thank you.

      1. Me as well Tom. I’m in a cottage this year we all miss the usual condo where we have been staying for years so it’s a tad different but it’s all good . The condo board said no rentals because of covid

        1. Curious to know how the cottage folks handled cleaning. It was part of why we cancelled. No hurry. Enjoy beautiful day first

          1. So my place was phenomenal excellent!!! This is a very small 2 bedroom duplex the owner is here on the other side ( we have hit it off nice guy ) my friends 5 cottages down the street was absolutely behind gross & I just can’t get into the details here it’s bad & he is pissed. He spent all day cleaning it & has notified the landlord . Hope that’s is a good explanation of the question . Did you also know NH is the only state with no mask policy in place it’s non existent &. Way , way more folks not wearing vs wearing .

            1. Thanks ssk. Happy yours turned out well. I thought rentals unless under the radar were regulated For cleaning. I can’t believe what happened to your friend. Should be reported to BOH. I know my brother and SIL won’t go near Hampton because it has been so bad but had no idea about no masks. Nuts. Have fun

  4. Logan 84 with dp 61 and West wind at 14 mph.

My equipment showing 84 with dp 66.

Sensor mostly still in the shade from nearby trees. Will be totally in the sun soon.

    1. Interesting how Logan has been lucking out with lower dewpoints compared to the surrounding area at times so far much of this summer.

      Sadly it won’t much longer.

Cape dewpoints are AWFUL at 72-74+

  5. Yesterday I gave Logan 86, they came in at 84.

My forecast for today was 94 but I’m going to trim that to 92.
My forecast for Monday at 96 will come back slightly to 94.
I’ll give them a 92 for Tuesday for now.

    1. There’s even a possibility that the gradient is weak enough to allow a sea breeze at Logan on any of these days except probably Tuesday, assuming the front is trucking along as expected. We’ll see on that one.

      1. Will that Tuesday front come with widespread severe storms and break the heat/humidity for awhile?

        1. No, and yes.
It will be too warm aloft Tuesday for a widespread outbreak of severe weather, but we may end up with a general line of storms (though some of the guidance says no to that).

The heat & humidity will come down somewhat, but gradually at first.

      2. I would welcome that sea breeze. Ain’t happening today
that’s for sure. Logan wind now is West at 18mph.

  6. $1200 stimulus checks will roll out again in August! Same rules apply.

I also posted this on today’s COVID page.

  7. The good old CFS says below normal precipitation for 5 out of the next 6 weeks, and below normal precipitation for the majority of the coming months through April 2021.

    1. Let me guess…the good old CFS is usually “spot on” most of the time? 😉

I believe this is the second time you have posted its updated outlook here.

Potential long term drought and snowless winter, not a good combination. 🙁

      1. The problem with the CFS, sometimes it’s really good, and sometimes it’s really, really bad. I look for consistency and I never put a lot of stock in it.

      1. Goes to show you how important exact wind direction is there, and precisely the reason they won’t get close to 100 tomorrow.

          1. Yes I believe they will make 92 today. Current projection from me. It may occur late in the day there.

            1. They just made 90. Your 92 is looking pretty good.
Hey, if Logan comes in at 91 or 93, your 92 still
              was excellent.

        1. Sorry, I can’t see “one” circle let alone 16. Is this one of those images in which different people see different forms? 🙂

          1. Nope. they are there trust me. Try staring between
any 2 squares. I mean stare right between 2 of them, you will see it.

              1. I see them now! I was about to give up until I focused closer my phone screen then stared again. Yes, they really do jump up at you! 🙂

  8. Logan now 88 with WNW at 18 mph and dp down to 57.

    Great call TK.

Today is another perfect Summer day. comfortable.
I was expecting the worse and am pleasantly surprised
    how nice it is today.

  9. It’s fun watching Logan bounce around with the wind directions. A very good “live laboratory” lesson in how wind direction and temperature there are so very related.

I also have detected what looks like a very thin layer of high altitude smoke on the vis satellite today. It is fire season in Canada, and there are a few burning up there. Not as bad as last year’s season though! But I think that very thin veil is putting a tiny filter on our sunlight today despite the lack of haze.

    1. Why does Canada have so many fires every summer? I know California always has its fare share but still…

      1. Because it happens every year there. Other than the ones started by humans, the majority of fires are natural. Like we would expect hurricanes to form during hurricane season, one should expect there to be some amount of fires during fire season. It’s just nature at work.

          1. No, actually. The fires in nature are a natural part of the life cycle. There’s nothing amok about it. I prefer to stick to actual facts when talking about this stuff, because if I don’t then people come away with the wrong ideas about things. 🙂

  10. Just went for a swim in the ocean down here on the RI. South coast water temp posted on life guard chair 76°. Dew point feels about 72°.

  11. A little bit more high level cloudcover than I expected today but that’s something very difficult to gauge in advance, since so much of what we see in summer is literally dependent on exact placement of thunderstorms far upstream when the upper winds are moderate to strong over your area.

Otherwise, today’s weather is about as expected here across the region. Maybe a tad less humid than I thought north of I-90.

  12. HRRR is overcooked for tomorrow for high temps.
GFS / NAM blend is a little more realistic.

  13. The numbers say the exact opposite. Mean winds have been below normal across most of California for May and June (data is only available on a monthly basis), and temperatures in the East Bay have been 1-4 degrees above normal for the past few months, including July.

    1. Well SAK considering he has lived there for decades and his wife her entire life, I suspect your numbers need help

      1. I forecast for the Bay Area every day. Numbers don’t lie, but perceptions do. Just like the person that told TK how “hot and humid” it was on Saturday.

        1. Well good for you. Are you there….in his yard. Do you have the exact address. And I’m truly glad you can judge people you don’t Know based on numbers

          I give up.

For the record. My thought when I read the comment about it being hot and humid….different people are impacted differently by heat. But then rather than feel ill, they should just check the numbers

        2. SAK I checked where my BIL lives. I’ll repeat my original comment

chatted with Macs brother Tonight who lives east of San Francisco. He said they have had a cool summer to date with lots more wind than they typically have making nights quite cool.

I checked and you knew I would.

June after 21st had 5 days above normal and 0 nights above normal. July so far has had 9 days above normal and 5 nights above normal. Cam never said every day was below normal. He said it had been a cool summer so far making nights cool and it has been windy. Surely there are more below normal days than above and many more below normal nights.

And I’ll bid you a good night
