  1. Scott, thanks for catching the reporting error with regard to Massachusetts cases. 356 is a better number than 502.

  2. Baker speaking at 10ish. I’m hoping he addresses the uptick by more than saying we need to do what we should. We clearly are not

  3. Herman Cain passed away from coronavirus at 74. People are saying it’s from attending Trumps rally in Tulsa. The news of that hasn’t gotten much traction because the president tweeted that he thinks delaying the election should be considered. Something I warned people would be floated back in February.

    1. I plan on voting via mail this year. I say keep the date as scheduled and get the election over with.

      1. I’ll vote by mail also. The date thing is a trump game to get his base riled up so they will think of he loses it is rigged…..nothing to do with the fact that he is inept.

    1. My sons in law have full respiratory masks for work. But you are right. We won’t take advice from experts, just fools.

    2. I have air tight sunglasses goggles. Only wear them when the danger is high. They just look like sunglasses.

  4. I hope this won’t be considered a stupid question but does the “19” in COVID-19 relate to the year it first appeared? (2019)

    1. Not stupid. I wondered that a few times also. Makes sense but then I have no idea. Although a few reading might say I am stupid (eh, guys?) so I will happily keep you company, Philip.

  5. Good luck with trying to play fall sports in CT.
    Tweet from NBC CT
JUST IN: The CIAC said it is moving forward with plans to play school sports this fall, but the details remain fluid.

I agree with Ryan Hanrahan’s response to the tweet.
Not sure how it makes any sense to play sports when schools are trying to limit social interactions and cohort students in small groups.

  6. Not a stupid question on the naming of Covid-19, Philip. Vicki answered it well.

WHO made a conscious decision to add 19 to the name Covid, denoting the year it was first discovered. As WHO said in February there are many coronaviruses and we could have a Covid-23 in 2023. Let’s hope not.

I wrote about the naming convention in February. https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/2020/02/13/covid-19-why-names-of-new-infectious-diseases-matter/#5ebd5e776ac6

Cases continue to spread throughout the nation, with a slight decrease in the hot spots (about 18 states), but an unfortunate increase in other states (about 22), including Massachusetts, with other states (10) treading water.

Deaths yesterday got close to 1,500. We probably won’t hit that number today, but we’ll get very close. It’s been a very bad week.

    1. Concerning the naming of the disease, remember the brilliant words of Kellyanne Conway in an April 15 “Fox & Friends” interview.:
“This is COVID-19, not COVID-1, folks. And so you would think that people charged with the World Health Organization facts and figures would be on top of that. People should know the facts.”

  7. In retrospect, when this started, school was closed for a few weeks. Then it seemed unreal that it was closed for the rest of the year. Now, almost five months later, schools are still an uncertainty. Who would have ever thought this possible?
