  1. A lot of red for most of the U.S. on the latest CPC outlook. I don’t mind that now but come December I want to see some snow around these parts although I had a good dumping thanks to the pre halloween Noreaster.

    1. I was just wishing it were two weeks ago and we were all waiting for the snow. It was fun to share it with everyone here. Makes it that much more special I think

      1. You’ll get plenty of chances.

Ironic that the biggest October snowstorm in much of MA in 32 years takes place in a very warm weather pattern.

          1. Sometimes people forget, weather isn’t rigid. The atmosphere is not rigid. A warm pattern does not always mean no snow. A cold pattern does not necessarily mean snowy. Just because it’s one way doesn’t mean it always stays that way. There are things we can look for that help us predict, but even the “sure signs” are not always so sure. I’m not even sure that the lack of snowcover north of us is going to have much impact. When that QBO shifts phase, look out. Barry explained this in his winter outlook.

          2. I know I’ve been stubborn to think little snow this winter and mild temps. For sure, I have a lot to learn…….and, I hope I’m wrong. 🙂 To be honest, I had to look up QBO, read up on it some and some of it went completely over my head. I’m rooting for some snow to make the short days interesting, but somehow hoping that it doesnt add to many days to the school year in June.

With the many clear nights lately, I have enjoyed watching the moon rise and tonight is no exception. Beautiful !!

  2. Question. My weather station quit last year. I don’t want to up invest in a new one yet but would like a really good thermometer. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thank you! If my son happens to be reading I was thinking Christmas present 🙂

  3. Tom I would like to know more on what you said. Did you see something that states that the mild weather could go into december. I remember one christmas eve within the last 10yrs. everbody was running around in tshirts. Top line was to say what you read.

    1. Hi John.

My basis is pretty simple and likely filled with lots of room for error. I am guessing that what we are seeing now is a potential predictor of what is to come for some months to come. We’ll see.

Bruins playing well. I’m usually a big NBA fan and hugely support the Celtics, but am learning that I can live without it. I dont think the players and owners understand that if a follower like me feels that way, they may be playing in empty arenas once they finally get going……….

      1. meaning the mild conditions Tom. The bruins now seem to be finding there game. Tyler is red hot right now. I do not follow basketball Tom, I just can’t get into it. not sure if they will even play this season. I am a huge football guy, I can watch and enjoy any team playing. And of course a bruins fan, for hockey I just watch the bruins, beanpot and any playoff hockey. I may be off for a few days next week and I can catch up on the bruins. I am having a heart cath done some day next week.

        1. John, take it easy and keep us updated. Best wishes my friend !!

Yes, without bball to watch, I have been watching many Bruins games lately and Tyler Seguin’s game has ramped up exponentially from last year. Obviously, I was worried about the B’s 5 games ago and now, they look like they could compete with anyone in the conference.

          1. Thank’s Tom- my family history is realy bad with the heart. My father had a tripple bypass at 38 and than another heart attack some years later he is 63now. I am 40. My breathing has been really bad. My friends were kidding with me last night saying oh getting the roter rooter job. If I have no blocks that is good, if I do they can fix it.

        2. John. I will be thinking of you too. Please keep us posted. I am sending positive thoughts your way and if you don’t mind will include you in prayers.

          1. Thank’s Vicki. I should find out on Monday when the test is, I am having it done at the BI. I will be working up to the test as I see no reason why I cant. I found all this out yesterday when I met with the doctor. I had a stress test done last tuesday. I should be home that day unless they find something. All will work out.

    1. Still want to see more ridging in western Canada. If we can’t shut the Pacific air off or at least slow the flow, it won’t chill off and sustain itself for any length of time.

  4. At 7am this morning….

Block Island, RI 55F with a SW wind off of the relatively warm ocean water
Orange, MA 27F…..clear, calm and cold

Maybe by 2pm this afternoon, Orange will be warmer.

  5. John – best wishes on your test next week.

It’s very cold out this morning and the sun is already fading behind some high clouds. We have a busy day ahead and I also am meeting a friend for dinner tonight. Enjoy the rest of the wknd. all!

  6. Thank you to all of you for the kind words. I will let you know when my test is, should hear tomorrow. Realy kind and honest people here. I just got done raking some leaves. It is cloudy here but a nice mild day. Lost without the pats today. I hate night games on work nights.

    1. John I agree about night games on work nights. I’ll be taking a nap this afternoon 🙂 Please do let us know tomorrow as we will be thinking of you!

    2. John best of luck to you. I like you hate night games especially when having to get up for work early the next day. Its times like that I wished I lived on the west coast because when a game starts at 8pm or 9pm are time its 5pm of 6pm out there.

      1. I agree. but one awesome thing this year that was a first I think, there is like seven or eight 4:15 games. To me that is the perfect time for them to play. You can get things done and than watch the game. I am a guy who needs to be in bed by 9:30 on a work night, I get up at 4:30 and leave at 5:05. I suspect I may be up a little later tonight.

        1. John I think 4:15 is perfect too. My husband just asked if I’d checked to be sure the game isn’t on at 4:15. I told him everyone on woodshill says it’s 8:20 too he just laughed at me.

        2. I think I will not watch the game as once I start watching…I cant stop and then to have to work on such little sleep is no fun.

I just peeked at the Patriots remaining schedule after tonight and they should be favored in every game after tonight. I do think they lose tonight to the Jets. The Pats defense is worrisome.

          1. I would watch the first half Tom. I disagree with you on the pats though. I think any team they played today was in trouble. I think after loosing two in a row they will be charged and find anyway to win. But Tom I could be wrong, and you may be right. Go for the first half Tom.

          2. I tend to agree with John and hope after two losses they come back big. If not I am not even sure rest of games are a given.

Watch first half tom and give kids open book quiz and zone. Just kidding!!

  7. To me its all about ratings. I have noticed with the Sunday Night games this season its closer to 8:30 and the game rarely ends before 11:30.

  8. I think the CPC used it’s deepest shade of red to show above average temps for the 6-10 day outlook. One would think that when we get beyond a couple weeks, that deep deep red will turn into deep deep blue, the NAO will tank, and the AO will follow. Enjoy those 60’s while they are here now.
