  1. Northeast is in a bit of trouble. Rhode Island was already a trouble maker of sorts. Now, Massachusetts cases are trending in wrong direction, as is test positivity. New York (and New Jersey) worries me the most. I thought NY/NJ was at least somewhat close to some version of herd immunity/T cell cross-reactivity and I’m being proven wrong. Doubling of cases in a week, plus an alarming test positivity trend. Interestingly, the majority of new new cases are symptomatic and many are occurring in orthodox Jewish communities. This also happened in March very early on. I am worried about NYC. Very densely populated.

My colleague, Yaneer Bar-Yam (MIT scientist), warned early on that absent a vaccine the only strategy that really works is what he called a Zero-Covid approach. China adopted this. Vietnam, too. New Zealand and Australia as well. He has said that if you only go for containing the virus you will continue to see new wave after new wave. None of our policies even got close to a Zero-Covid approach.
