  1. Once a safe and effective Covid-19 vaccine becomes available, will there be certain individuals who actually should NOT receive one due to risk of further illness and/or death?

Regardless, I believe it’s going to take most, if not all of 2021 to eventually vaccinate everyone, or at least those who wish to receive it.

  2. Macs cousin and husband have spent spending a good amount of time at their place in Stowe. She said everyone respects the mask and distancing requirements. They have also done well even with a significant number of out of state cars

This is the first paragraph of Heather Cox Richardson’s email today. Her summaries Each day are exceptional.

“ Today the United States had at least 82,600 new cases of coronavirus, our highest daily level of cases in a single day since the pandemic started. The outbreak is widespread, meaning it will be harder to move medical personnel around to address the crisis. We have lost close to 224,000 Americans to Covid-19. As it spreads through Republican-governed states, leaders refuse to use government authority to slow its reach. “It’s not a job for government,” North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum said.”

I understand Biden misspeaks when he says it is just Republican states. However, those are the states doing either very little or nothing. Frankly, the president is not the only one responsible for our inability to have controlled the first wave and for exacerbating the second/third

    1. Great post, Vicki.

I don’t understand the Dakotas. The lack of leadership is astounding. To say, as Governor Noem did yesterday, “you are free to wear masks if you want to, but if you don’t that’s okay, too” rather than “we recommend you wear masks as it will likely save lives” is bizarre to me. Even a libertarian is fine with saying “we recommend.” Yet, she can’t even do that.

Yes, the Dakotas are by Republicans. But, so is Vermont. The contrast couldn’t be starker. Vermont has not recorded a single Covid-19 death in more than 2 months. The Dakotas are now leading the world in new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths per capita. Biden should highlight this as an example. I wish he wouldn’t polarize by suggesting Democrats do a better job. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. More importantly, there are Republicans who do an excellent job.

Also, I hear from the Covid skeptics so often that it’s in hospitals interest to record Covid-19 deaths. Such deaths are inflated. Not only is this inaccurate, if it really were all about hospitals cooking the books why would there be such a dramatic contrast between Vermont and the Dakotas in terms of Covid-19 deaths? All 3 states are rural. They all have hospitals that have the same `incentive’ structure. Yet, one (Vermont) records 0 Covid-19 deaths for more than 2 months, while the other 2 states record hundreds over that time period.

      1. Meanwhile, China is currently leading the world economy. Shopping malls and automobile dealerships have reopened and Covid-19 cases have been at “zero” for two months straight.

I can only imagine where they will be one year from now.

      2. Thanks Joshua. This. “ I wish he wouldn’t polarize by suggesting Democrats do a better job. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. ” is so true. Trump polarizes. I don’t want to heat it from Biden.

        Noem should be held accountable

  3. Joshua, can you answer my question above regarding the vaccine?

Also, I am confused as to which wave are we in currently? Some tv newscasts have us just entering the second and others now in the third.

If it’s the third, how did I miss the second?

Answer if you can at your convenience, of course. 🙂

  4. If I understood correctly, MA has the most Covid-19 deaths in the northeast.

    Disturbing to say the least.
