  1. Philip, I don’t have an answer to your question on whether certain people shouldn’t take the vaccine. I don’t even think FDA could answer that yet, as they’ll need to sort through the data that the sponsors of various vaccine candidates submit. Combined they’ve enrolled hundreds of thousands of people, with a variety of health conditions.

    1. Thanks anyway Joshua. I do hope that a vaccine can help those “long haulers” as well.

I do find it interesting that VP Pence’s inner circle have all or most tested positive, but that he and his wife have not.

Very lucky for the “2nd couple” I would say.

  2. Philip, I’ve been reading about second vs third wave. As you know, it confuses me also. Thankfully, Joshua can help make sense of it.

Joshua, this is just my guess. Was the first wave the west and northern east coast surge? Was the second wave then the southern state surge and into Arizona and some middle states? And now the third wave seems to be east coast as well as middle of country.

My brother in law east of San Francisco but with his wife’s family in Orange County says CA is still pretty much Holding its own. I don’t know what Washington state is doing but have not heard much about it.

Philip, these are two articles I found that helped me.
Second and third wave. First was written months ago and second is from just a handful of days ago.

Joshua, thank you very much for helping me work though understanding this

  3. Vicki, Philip, on the 3rd wave it’s called that for some of the reasons you point out, Vicki. The first was concentrated in the Northeast, but also included the New Orleans area, Detroit metropolitan are, and Washington State. The second was concentrated in what we call the Sun Belt, but also included California (I guess that’s part of the Sun Belt?), and several southern states not normally associated with the Sun Belt (eg, Alabama and Mississippi; though they’re plenty warm in summer and get lots of sun). The third wave is much more widespread in that almost all areas of the nation are included, except the west coast (California has really done well) and the Northeast. The most concentrated clusters are in the Northern Plains and Midwest. Of course now that the numbers in parts of the Northeast are in ascent, we may want to expand the third wave to include most of the Northeast. The exception remains Northern New England’s 3 states.

Philip, to your question on long-haulers, please keep in mind that vaccines do nothing for them or for anyone who gets the virus. Vaccines are preventive; they’re not therapeutic once you have the illness. There are several promising therapeutics in the pipeline that may help the tens of thousands of long haulers who are suffering.

    1. Thanks again Joshua. Now I think I understand regarding the waves. I had no idea that they were “geographical” in nature.

    2. Thanks Joshua. I had thought CA was at the height before we were; but with all we have seen, it is difficult to keep track.

Do I understand that folks who have had covid wont get a vaccine? I know there are instances of folks having it twice …maybe not many, but still. Wouldn’t it be prudent foe those whose had covid early to also have vaccine…..after others who have not had it of course?

  4. Spain is, once again, under a Covid-19 “State of Alarm” and wants to keep a curfew into effect until May 9.
