Friday February 26 2021 Forecast (7:47AM)

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 26 – MARCH 2)

High pressure brings a nice later winter day today. Low pressure moves quickly across New England Saturday with unsettled weather. Here, it may be cold enough for a bit of snow over interior areas especially near the MA/NH border of an otherwise rain event. Another low makes a run at the region late Sunday but this one should be weaker with the greatest rain threat later in the day near the South Coast. As we get to March, the volatility of that month will be evident in short order as we start mild, end windy and much colder on Monday with the feel of mid winter Tuesday with a sharp but short-lived visit from an arctic air mass.

TODAY: Sunny. Highs 30-37. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 23-30. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Periods of rain, starting as snow with a small accumulation from northern MA through southern NH. Highs 40-47. Wind variable up to 10 MPH becoming S 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy evening with rain ending. Partly cloudy with patchy fog overnight. Lows 33-40. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Chance of rain mainly South Coast afternoon. Highs 45-52. Wind W 5-15 MPH becoming variable to SE.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light rain. Lows 38-45. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Variably cloudy with a chance of rain showers in the morning. Partly sunny in the afternoon. Highs 45-52 by early afternoon then turning cooler by late-day. Wind SW 5-15 MPH shifting to W 10-20 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Snow showers/squalls possible. Lows 5-12. Wind W 15-25 MPH with higher gusts shifting to NW. Wind chill falling below 0.

TUESDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 27-34. Wind NW 15-25 MPH, higher gusts. Wind chill often below 20.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 3-7)

Moderating temperatures, fair & breezy conditions for March 3 with a westerly air flow. Watching for some unsettled weather for at least a brief period around March 4 and again at the end of the period, but low confidence on the outlook as we go out in time.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 8-12)

General westerly flow, but variable pattern as we again will have to watch several disturbances and run the risk of some significant temperature swings. There are also some hints that even though we have a general west to east flow in place that a blocking pattern may start to evolve toward the end of the period which may have implications for mid month.

  1. I know I am late in the conversation about hell and what comes after passing but I will say this, to this day I still believe my brother and I saw my Grandpa Souza on the Deck watching us in the pool.

    1. That’s awesome!
Do you know, on average, how many skating days per season do they get? I don’t imagine too many, but when it is available, it looks like loads of fun.

Growing up in Millis there was this damned up stream called
the Bogastow Brook. In really cold weather it would allow
us to skate for about 1 mile. (See map below) So, I have at least experienceda taste of what they have in the Netherlands.

      Map:

Circled in red is where we could skate. Water levels were higher back then, so we could skate where this is depicted as narrow.

      1. Wow. That is very cool.

Son and fiancé’s house is on Blackstone river but the canal is immediate to their property. My grandson has been learning to skate on it.

        1. Fantastic. Is that where he caught that beautiful rainbow trout? I mean the River and not the canal.

btw. when I was in school the Blackstone River was so polluted, I don’t think there were any fish at all.

  2. Good morning WHW friends:
I mentioned in a post last week that I broke my ankle in two places. I went to surgery yesterday I had an awesome orthopedic doctor that put my ankle back together. Hopefully no more snow and ice wishing for that is like betting it’s going to be ninety degrees this weekend.

      1. By “calendar year” sounds good. Has there been a tropical event every month now with climate change at one time or another?

        1. I believe there has been at least a tropical storm in every month but the one in February and March are questionable.

      2. I understand that seasons are shifting but those are actual seasons. I also wonder why we need a hurricane season. Did someone explain to mom nature that she needs to confine hurricanes to specific months? That said….this goes on my list of there are more important things to worry about…..so I guess I’m ok with letting NOAA knock itself out.

As I type, I wonder now why we need designated seasons at all.

        1. On the topic of more important things to worry about…..

The powers that be are considering changing the name of Mister Potato head to something gender neutral.

You really can’t make this stuff up.

          1. I saw that too Vicki, I think the change is official. I can’t tell if you think this is pure craziness or you are all for this?

            1. As a rather liberal person I will only be saying Mr Potato head and will actually correct people if they do anything else by saying. Why is Mr Potato head changed yet Mrs Potato head stays? Mrs is not gender neutral either 😉

              1. I am tired of it all. I can assure everyone that I was not in any way made to feel less important as a female or as a person when I played with Mr Potatohead as a child. I might have been a bit upset when the potato….we used real potatoes….rotted.

We are now officially the cancel culture generation. I agree with JPD. Absolutely absurd.

  3. The steady downward adjustment for Tuesday’s high temp in successive NWS forecasts continues. Yesterday it was 35 for Woburn, now it’s 30. Each update is a little lower than the last.

Incidentally, the current operational GFS will have been the first model to pick up that short-lived arctic shot. The parallel had a little chill-down and the Euro had nothing of the sort when the GFS had already been picking it up for a few runs…

Incidentally (part 2), for March 10 (way out there), the GFS & it’s parallel are about 30 degrees apart on high temps (30s vs 60s). My money is on the colder GFS.

    1. Would you mind putting your money on nothing that causes driving problems on March 4 please. I do have to get to my vaccine appointment. Anything else, I’d cancel

  4. I am joining the complaint train…But not about the hurricane season.

I am complaining about JPDave and Vicki. You know, I have a very busy life….running a business, caring for my wife…playing tennis twice a week, etc.
And then…..they brought up the TV series “Heartland.”
I told my wife about it…so we watched the first episode. That was created 14 years ago. Now….we can’t stop watching it. Even with binge watching, I will never live long enough to see all 14 years, never mind the ones that are still in production.
    GRRRRR!!!!!

It is a great series though, isn’t it!

    1. Hahahahahahahahaha. It is addictive. Both Dave and I and my granddaughter are up to 14. Grand has found some episodes from 14 and watches on YouTube. I’ll have to read her this comment.

But I have to say credit goes to JPDave 😉

    2. Sorry chief.

I really enjoyed that show. I could not get my wife to watch it.
She ha s a bad history with horses. On the other hand, I love
      horses. Oh well.

      1. Dave….my wife isn’t fond of horses either but loves a good love story. Must have been interesting to watch them all grow 14 years older while you stayed young. Great way to make time stand still in a sense.

        1. There was a long break between season 11 and 12/13. I think Ty surprised me the most. Funny thing is my oldest (mom of above granddaughter) has spent most of her life with horses but didn’t really get into the show

        2. One more and I promise to stop. You might try Virgin River on Netflix. I read all 21 books years ago. The Netflix series got me rereading (audio books).

    1. No worries! That page has been up for almost a year and we’ve had very few misdirected posts. That’s a good record. I’ll delete this in a moment once you have moved the comment to the right place. 🙂
