DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 28 -APRIL 1)

Hope you enjoyed yesterday. Although it started out with a gusty northwesterly breeze and ended up with a chilly sea breeze for some, by late March standards it was a nice day. Today won’t be quite so nice. It’s already overcast and approaching low pressure from the west will send a slug of rainfall into the region. There’s enough instability with the system that we may even get some thunderstorm activity with the rainfall this evening as an occluded frontal system moves across the region. Although we do need that rain to help alleviate recent dryness and also fire danger which has been spiking on our dry, breezy days. Speaking of dry and windy, that’s the type of weather we get Monday as our rain-producer moves away and pulls a chunk of cold air out of Canada. High pressure moves in with a less windy and milder Tuesday, but March may exit with a bit of a roar as strong cold front approaches from the west Wednesday with windy and showery weather by late-day or nighttime. In the medium range, we’ve been pondering the questions of what will happen when the front crosses the region around April 1. Well, it will bring colder air back to the region – that much we know. It will bring some wet weather to start the new month – that much we’re pretty sure of. Will it move slowly enough that enough moisture will be around for that rain to change to snow? It’s still several days away, so I’m not sure, but I’m leaning away from a “snow” threat there and maybe just some rain showers or snow flurries as the front moves off and cold air arrives. Still time to fine-tune this.

TODAY: Overcast. Areas of fog and drizzle developing during the morning especially near the coast. Rain arriving west to east midday continuing through afternoon. . Highs 46-53. Wind SE to E 5-15 MPH, higher gusts possible.

TONIGHT: Cloudy evening with rain showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, also areas of fog. Breaking clouds overnight. Lows 36-43. Wind shifting to N and increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.

MONDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 42-49. Wind NW 15-25 MPH, gusts 30-45 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 28-35. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Sunny. Highs 55-62. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 38-45. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Afternoon rain showers possible. Highs 58-65 except cooler South Coast. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain showers likely. Lows 42-49. Wind S 10-20 MPH shifting to NW.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain and snow showers. Temperatures steady 42-49. Wind NW 15-25 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 2-6)

Large scale blocking pattern. Leaning toward mainly dry but cooler than normal weather with broad low pressure evolving and staying quasi-stationary to the east of the region.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 7-11)

Larger scale blocking pattern may keep it on the cooler side of normal but with limited unsettled weather as we may remain in a drier part of the block.

  1. Good Sunday morning and thank you TK! Looking forward to an active 24 hours of weather, between the rain, wind and possible early spring garden variety thunderstorms.

  2. Thanks TK. Is it my imagination or have we had more wind events recently? What do you see as top level gusts in metro west? If this keeps up maybe I should go into the tree business.

  3. Thanks, TK…
Good morning, everyone, and Happy Sunday!

I am a bit of a NASCAR fan. I have a special needs student who is a HUGE fan and we have to check in with each other each Friday to talk about Sunday’s race, drivers, etc.

Today, NASCAR is supposed to be racing on Tennessee clay at the Bristol Speedway. This is the first NASCAR dirt race since 1970. Well, most of eastern Tennessee is under a Flash Flood Warning.

Don’t think dirt racing is happening today in Bristol. 🙂

  4. So glad so many (here and everywhere) are getting vaccinated!

The Great Captain Fantastic Road Trip continues this week. The Fantastic sisters-in-law get their second dose this Friday afternoon. I am driving them up after school to The Reggie in Roxbury. Mrs. Fantastic gets hers next Easter Sunday morning at The Reggie. I get mine Friday afternoon, April 9 at Walgreen’s in the South End of Fall River.

Will the state pay my gas receipts????? 🙂

    1. Best of luck captain . My wife was to get her second shot at the Reggie this Friday but got it switched closer to home in Hanover . Our 16 year old ( soon 17) will receive his on Wednesday. I’m filled with gratitude as they both have health conditions. The house will be fully vaccinated by the end of April .

      1. Wonderful, SSK! My aunt and her husband have had a devil of a time getting appointments. They finally got one each this week!

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off our shoulders after more than a year!

    2. Wonderful wonderful news both Captain and SSK.

Captain …road trip doesn’t begin to describe. I know how hard you worked to make all of those appointments. How special of you to make sure everyone gets to their locations.

  5. Nashville had the most rain in a 24-hour period in more than 100 years yesterday. 7.01″ was recorded at the airport. There are two dead and more than 100 rescued in historic flooding.

  6. Btw. Today is Palm Sunday! 🙂

Unfortunately, holidays just haven’t been the same for the past year now.

    1. Nope another holiday in my house with no family allowed over . I have not seen my mom , dad , sisters . Aunt & uncle since August. Once my parents get vaccinated we can finally see them & there new home In Maine .

    2. They sure have not been the same. My older daughter and family and my SIL here self quarantined over two weeks before Christmas so we could get together. But I haven’t been able to be with my son, his fiancé and his son for over a year. But then I remember those who are overseas or elsewhere and rarely see family. If helps some but ….

      1. It’s probably even worse to have family near, and yet, so far…

Hopefully back to normal next year.

  7. A wall of water just went through here. It’s still raining, but not as hard. Delivered 0.43 inch in a hurry.

  8. Thank you, TK!

A welcome drink of water to close out an otherwise very dry and sunny month.

Pretty big snowstorm today, tonight, and even tomorrow in parts of Quebec; Quebec City and points north and east. They’re accustomed to it, as winter doesn’t change to summer – with very little in the way of spring – until some time in May.

      1. I’m guessing that the atmosphere will be very well mixed tomorrow bringing gusts down to the surface maybe just marginally more than what was initially thought, and seeing that we were already on the cusp they decided to upgrade.
