  1. CDC Director overrides her advisors. Boosters will be available to front line workers (healthcare, teachers, grocery stores, etc …) after all. I think this is a good decision. I wonder, however, about the decision-making process. Do these people ever just sit down around a table and work out a consensus view prior to making announcements? Doesn’t appear to be the case, as we always get contradictory statements. And these lead to confusion.

      1. Well Vicki, you can use me as a good example of the third vaccine/booster. It’s been almost a month (9/1) and so far so good. 🙂

FWIW, I haven’t heard of any serious side effects from the few who have received it so far, unlike the first two shots.

  2. A lot of talk this week about future pandemics and how to prepare for them. With yesterday’s reported deaths at 3,226 I think I’d rather the focus be on what’s happening right now. I know it sells books to talk about them – Gottlieb’s Uncontrolled Spread, for example, is considered a gem. But, we’re still in distress mode in a number of states (add Alaska to the list), continue to have very large numbers of cases and hospitalizations (both indicators are dropping, yet still high), and are reporting on average (!) well over 2,000 deaths a day.

  3. With a possible government shutdown looming for the end of the month, will that include the CDC? Could this mean no more updates? The general public has been sort of “in the dark” as it is at times during this pandemic.

      1. Of course this nation has too many political divisions as the root cause. Even race has been a factor as well, unfortunately.

  4. I don’t understand how the process works (or doesn’t work). I don’t know how Walensky can simply override her advisors at the ACIP, within a few hours of their decision. I’m thoroughly confused by it all. Throw in the fact that FDA and CDC came to different conclusions, but the CDC Director apparently sided with FDA and you have yourself a migraine. There are plenty of FDA-approved products for migraine, but none that can resolve the confusion.

  5. Baker has asked St Vincent’s and the nurses to end the strike. From what JPD said, the hospital backlog isn’t just out this way though. Maybe a statewide mask mandate for all …inside and out
