  1. I heard this morning that state flu cases increased by 84% last week.

    Nothing to see here folks??

    Thanks TK.

    1. That is a massive spike. I didn’t see that.

Flu has been unusually dormant, if you will, since 2019.

The late season cooler air could trigger more flu activity, but also more Covid cases.

  2. This graph, and the graphs and figures that accompany it, is concerning: https://twitter.com/EricTopol/status/1508125589290463236

Was at a Bar Mitzvah party last night. It was a fairly large crowd. Everyone had to get tested to get in. Two people tested positive and could not join the party. Here’s the problem. Their close contacts (parents) tested negative, but, as we know, the rapid tests are sometimes not accurate.

People are definitely throwing caution to the wind. I also saw extremely long lines at the night clubs. Understandable to some degree, after two years of rules. But, if this doesn’t lead to a spike in cases, it would be nothing short of miraculous. Stay tuned.

      1. Close contacts of anyone positive no longer need to take any precautions. This is in schools also. I’ve given up on the existence of any semblance of common sense.

        1. The two positives were sick when they showed up at the party to do the test to get in – sore throat and cold symptoms. In other words, people really don’t give a damn.

I must say that even pre-Covid I was alarmed at the number of people who showed up at work sick. This did not happen in Holland. When you’re sick in Holland, you’re told to stay at home. If you don’t, you’re considered “anti-social” because you’re spreading illness. This long predates Covid. When I was there in the 1980s and 90s the Dutch would tell you “sick is sick, and you need to sick out (“uitzieken”)” meaning take care of yourself at home until you’re better.

          1. With a deep sighhh. No, people do not give a damn. Hyperindividualism at its finest. Kids are still being sent to school sick….many of them have relatively high fevers.

It takes me back to the teacher I mentioned maybe a year ago who said she hoped covid would put an end to parents sending kids to school sick. It will never end; but heaven help me, I cannot imagine how a parent would do anything other than send a sick child to bed.
