  1. Not Covid-related, but related to health in a certain way. This morning while at the (new) dentist’s office I filled out a dental form, and I came across the term “cisgender.” I had seen the term. But, I did not know its meaning, and couldn’t look it up (remember, I don’t have a smartphone). The question was “what is your gender?” On the form there was no “male” or “female” or “other.” There were 6 categories, however. By process of elimination, I put a check mark next to “cisgender male.” But then there was a question whether I “identified as a male.” I must say this is getting confusing. I have no issue whatsoever with someone using preferred pronouns. But, there’s no reason to make these forms more complicated than they already are. Just ask whether you’re “male,” “female” or “other.” If “other” there can be a secondary question, which can include all relevant categories. After that there shouldn’t be any further questions on “identifying with …” unless it’s relevant to the health (dental) care you’re getting. Am I being too old-fashioned? I don’t want to sound like Marjorie Taylor Greene.

    1. No you are not being Greene. I’d laugh but the thought of her turns my stomach.

I agree. There is an easy fix and you listed it

A while ago a friend said he believed that in order to get to where we should be in recognizing equality, some groups would have to go to extremes just to be recognized. And then back off. I guess that is where we are at.

In third grade….early 50s….in a tone with a heavy Jewish population, I recall being upset as I looked around at my Jewish friends singing Christmas carols but not one song representing Hanukkah. That was nearly seven decades ago and we are still having a meltdown if someone says seasons greeting rather than merry Christmas.

My fuzzy point is that we create the need for extremes Which is understandably hard for logical folks like yourself to understand

  2. Massachusetts cases appear to have peaked late last week. Test positivity has come down a bit. It’s 8.6%. Cases are still elevated, but daily increases are diminishing. Hospitalizations are still rising – lagging indicator. The state did report 33 deaths today.
