  1. We’re in a holding pattern, essentially: A very long plateau in which we can’t seem to get below 400 deaths a day.

    1. Thanks for that update Joshua. Hopefully the fall vaccinations will help. Still waiting to hear from the Brigham for a list of vaccine clinics.

Joshua, any ideas as to why the death rate still won’t trend down? It’s been at 400 per day for months now. Why is the medical community satisfied with that threshold?

  2. Good question, Philip. It’s such a contagious virus that we have a tremendous caseload at almost any given point in time. So even when the CFR or IFR is now very low, the absolute numbers of folks getting infected are very high. Given that we have a lot of vulnerable people – whether vaccinated (boosted) or not – this produces relatively large numbers of folks who are hospitalized and a small percentage of hospitalized patients die.

    1. But it is obvious now that the overall medical community has given its “blessing” that 400+ deaths per day are acceptable. Their silence speaks volumes.

You mentioned here that 100 per day via the flu is the threshold, unless I have misunderstood.

    1. I’ve seen a number of tweets mention this. I admit to sticking my head in the sand for some of this as risk factors post Covid seem to be mounting for older folks and the very young and all in between.

  3. Correction. My daughters in-laws live in Naples.

My youngest and her husband have teo close friends who live in Tampa and are not evacuating. They and several other friends in the area have said the ocean has been so still and there are absolutely no birds to be seen. Nature is absolutely amazing, isn’t it
