2 More Unsettled Days

7:28AM

A nearly stationary front across New England will be the running board for an area of low pressure to the south to come up and soak southern New England tonight into Wednesday. Wet weather will hold off for much of the day other than a few scattered showers. By tonight a more solid area of showers and thunderstorms will arrive, and this will continue into Wednesday. It will probably take until sometime Wednesday evening for the final wave of showers and storms to pass by as a final front pushes through from the west.

Dry air will sweep in by Thursday morning as high pressure starts to build in, and then holds through the weekend (hopefully, as we’ll have to watch a storm offshore by late in the weekend). For now the route will be optimistic through the weekend.

Forecast for eastern MA, southern NH, and RI…

TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers but much of the time rain-free until the end of the day when more numerous showers will start to move in from southwest to northeast. High from near 60 south-facing coastal areas to near 70 most other areas. Wind S 5-15 MPH gusting around 20 MPH.

TONIGHT: Cloudy with numerous showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Low 55-60. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Episodes of showers along with a chance of thunderstorms. High 65-70. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Sunny. Low 51. High 68.

FRIDAY: Sunny. Low 50. High 72.

SATURDAY: Sunny. Low 51. High 75, cooler coast.

SUNDAY: Sunny. Low 55. High 75, cooler coast.

  1. Is anyone here a lawn mower guru?

I have a Ariens WAW-34 self propelled mower. I bought it 2 years ago but the reverse sometimes does not work and it think it is because of my yard. My yard is a half acre and mostly flat except for the back part which has a hill. Its a short hill maybe 30′ in length to the top but it is steep, it has a incline of roughly 25 to 35 degrees. Way to steep for a ride on mower. My Ariens has no problem going up and down the hill but I have to keep it in reverse while walking down the hill so it doesn’t run away on me. I think that is what is causing the problem. So I am looking into a walk behind self propelled Hydro mower but I am not sure which one to get, they are pretty expensive. I would like something in the 30″ to 36″ wide model. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    1. WE have what sounds to be a similar lawn mower to yours Coastal and it’s been nothing but problems. I’ll be interested in the answer to your question

  2. If we get a favorable wind direction on Monday, then the temperatures will be off to the races.

  3. TK, overall do you think it is going to be a wet summer or a dry summer? I think you said dry summer before, but I forget. 🙂

    1. I still think that the summer will be drier than normal June/July, wetter in August.

  4. Well 1st Tropical Storm, Aletta, appeared in the Pacific today, and some inconsequential lows appearing off the coast of Africa. It must be that time.

Make your plane reservations today–full solar eclipse viewable in parts of western states this coming Sunday. 1st time for a full one in the US in 18 years.

  5. Sure is a solid batch of rain surrounding New England to its west and southwest…..

Actually have the A/C running in the classroom today. The school building is getting quite warm and stuffy.

    1. Some clouds building to my west. Am hoping the sun might pop off a few thunder storms – after golf leagues of course

        1. hahaha, too funny! I’ve been watching the radar and from the last loop, it looks like the bulk of the precip is going to end up just to the west of us. I think it will be more showery in nature here in SE MA with a few breaks. I could be wrong though, but this is me trying to tell myself I won’t get soaked on the course, or worse, have it cancelled again.

  6. Good grief did I overestimate this rain, only .13 so far here, still raining 🙂

  7. I see the storm prediction has western parts of SNE in the slight risk for severe weather tomorrow. I am giving most areas a 1 since I think the front will weaken and the thunderstorms should they fire will fall below severe levels. I think west of Springfield has the best shot at seeing a strong to possibly severe storm so those areas get a 2.

        1. Snow…can’t get enough. Thunderstorms…no thanks. 🙂

I guess I’m going to be like a snow hater is in January, lol. 😉

          1. Hahahaha. That’s ok. How come you don’t like Tstorms. My mom was terrified. When we were little if we had one shed get my brother and me up no matter what time of night and make us sit on the stairs which were in the middle of the house. You’d think I’d be terrified too but to her credit we didn’t know she was scared until we were older. So we always thought it was a great adventure

  8. I can not wait for those thunderstorms… bring them on. Thats what i like to track other than snow storms

  9. At 8F above normal for the day at Logan, the avg temp for May should go ever so slightly above normal for the month when including today’s data.

Looking at the temps to come, I’m thinking May will end up above normal temp wise, though, maybe +1 to +3F for the month, as opposed to the +5F or more the last several months.
