  1. Thanks TK.
Short blast of heat thankfully before temps lower for the weekend. Watching the thunderstorm threat for Friday with the timing of the front will be key. If it holds if to later in the day during the peak heating we could be looking at some level 2 activity. ( some severe weather) Right now I am thinking a 1 which will be thunderstorms that form but remain below severe levels. No matter what happens with the thunderstorms that front breaks the heat!

  2. Heating up here in Conway. Started in the low 60’s and now is approaching 80. We took some pictures of a black bear this morning at Dunks.

    1. hahahaha – I’m on a phone conf in North Conway so I’m virtually there with you, Coastal!

    2. The bear raided the dumpster. I took a pick and posted on Facebook. They have been having trouble with them in Conway too.

  3. Vicki, to comment on ur post in the previous blog entry, no shortage of doves outside my window in the morning, I have heard them loud and clear. You can have em!

    1. AceMaster – a friend in Southbridge said she hasn’t had any either. I wonder if there is a disease similar to the one that killed so many goldfinches a few years ago. And that’s ok – I don’t miss their cooing but thank you for the offer 🙂

  4. I see a lot of areas tonight that will be near or over the 70 degree mark for lows which will make for a great launching pad for temps to get up in the 90s.

  5. Along with the temps, the dewpoints are coming up quickly this morning, now in the mid to upper 60s.

Looking at the satellite, not too much cloud debris coming around the ring of fire on the ridge. So, with full sun at the solstice, 100F won’t surprise me.

    1. Wow ! It’s (temp rise) been averaging 3 to 4F per hour at many reporting stations since 7am.

      1. dew point just hit 70 here – amazingly quick rise and temp now 83.2 – 1 deg in 9 minutes

    1. I’ll admit I’d like to see Logan hit 100F, if only to make it 2 summers in a row to hit the century mark.

      1. I would also – what date did it happen last year – oddly I don’t remember a lot of heat last summer

        1. I feel like for a good month and a half last summer, heat was the norm so it may not have been as noticeable if it was like most of us think this summer will be, long cooler periods followed by 2 or 3 days of heat, then back to cool.

          1. good grief – I already said I remember that since it’s my daughter’s bday –

I think AceMaster is right – when I know there is an end in sight I can sit back and enjoy so it isn’t such a big deal

  6. The only thing that could cause some surprises at the immediate coastline could be a weak sea-breeze. Looking at the 10am obs, Portland, ME is reporting the wind as calm, and most of the winds at other reporting stations are under 10 kts.

Ok, well…..off to camp in this. Yikes, well, at least, the nearby lake will be cool from the recent chilly weather.

  7. I could not agree more with that statement. Looking at the glass half full at least this won’t be a long stretch of hot weather with a front coming through on Friday. I think will see storms on Friday the question is how strong will they be.

  8. I hate how they feel the need to crank the A/C in the office down to like 60 on days like today. No need. Just keep it at a constant temp. Cant wait till lunchtime to walk outside to a 40 deg diff. shocker!

    1. I know I know, I should be grateful I’m inside and have A/C, blah blah blah (hanging my head in shame)

  9. As of this posting, my house is still quite comfortable. I have no A/C, just fans but I have not had need to turn them on just yet. I suspect by days’ end, the comfort will be long gone.

Current forecast is for -AO, -NAO and +PNA into at least early July. If this were the beginning of winter…wow! Why couldn’t have this happened 6 months ago?

    1. Also the CPC is showing below avg temps, and the MJO is in phase 1, perfect for winter…
I don’t mind at all talking about winter on a day like today 🙂

        1. I’ll be getting like 3 seasons of winter combined next year in Vermont, but I’m pumped for it. Also I believe the first flakes fly in October, so only 4 more months till I see the white stuff again.

    2. Not bad in our house either. I did turn on AC in my office since it had to be shut up all morning since I was on phone conf and even with ceiling fan got hot from computers etc. Rest of house is lovely but I did start all 7 ceiling fans first thing this morning and will keep shades closed on sun side of the house.

  10. Our house is still relatively cool too, at this point – as long as I don’t open any windows. I am glad that we finally are getting some real summer weather – however, I am also glad that it is just a 2-day stretch. If it were to go many days longer, I wouldn’t be that happy, I s’pose. Bad thing about this weather is for those who don’t like this weather; for those who are ill or don’t have air-conditioning or for those who have to work outside. I suppose one could get used to it. But, I like variation in the weather – to a certain degree. One thing I like about this weather is the sky. Sounds weird, I know. But the way the light is with the haze, especially at dawn and dusk is very pretty. (Unless there’s pollution in the air which isn’t healthy). In any case, I guess it’s just that I love the weather no matter what!

    1. Liking the sky makes great sense, rainshine. Always makes me think of that song the Lazy Hazy Crazy Days Of Summer – is that the order of the words? I remember listening to it on my transistor radio as a young teen while lazing around the pool.

      1. Yes, that’s the order of the words to that song. Vicki, I remember listening to my transistor radio when I was younger, too. I remember how excited I was when I got my own transistor radio! Look how far we have come and how much the world has changed! Days like this remind me a lot of past summers. With the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas, most of my fondest memories so far are of summers past. Going to the beach, picnics, running through the sprinkler, family get-togethers, etc. I know this is not the right time to mention it, but I certainly am hoping as much as we get a real summer, I am hoping we get a real winter, too. Meaning snow!

        1. hahahaha – snow has been on several posts today – I think that as much as everyone here likes summer, winter is the real draw. And I also have wonderful memories of summers. I just had lunch on the deck and it even smells like summer. Great day!

  11. I would rather a 0 degree day than a 100 degree day. At least you could dress for the cold.

    1. Have to agree with you there, JJ. I think it’s easier to keep warm (as long as you have the appropriate clothes) than to keep cool.

  12. Just got back home a thought my sunflowers would be dead, but they are doing great! Never looked better!

    1. About the same here in Walpole too, looks like some clouds have started filtering out the sun. I hope it cools down a bit more before my softball game tonight

      1. Why did I think u have softball thurs. I need to get my act together here ;). How was golf? Husband will play in heat tomorrow. He said they canceled both June 28 and July 5. He insisted we all have a moment of silence last night

        1. Golf was good thanks, got back on the winning track :)Did they cancel those dates cuz of the holiday? We actually agreed last night to play on July 3rd (which is my bday) so its one less week we have to make up. I’d much rather play golf in heat than softball. We can have games anywhere from tues-thurs but every game until this one has been on a thurs

  13. The latest CPC has below normal temps and normal to above rainfall through July 4th. The summer of 2009 had below normal temps through mid-July, then returned to normal and eventually above. I have been reading rumors about this summer being similar to 2009, but up until now I have ignored them. For now, I am not going there, but I do get the feeling that there could be far more “coolish” days than HHH days.

As long as rain is kept to a minimum and sunny skies dominate with temps at least 75+ and no higher than 90, I can very much enjoy of the summer of 2012. 🙂

    1. The heat is ok but I love to have windows open and bring the outdoors in which is my favorite part of spring summer and fall. When we have too many days HHH then it puts a damper on that. For today and tomorrow and Friday, knowing there is an end, I do enjoy it!

  14. hey Bri and weather peeps! I’m headed to Meredith, NH Saturday for a week. The forecasts I have seen show some rain. Any insight?

    Thanks!!!

    Dawn

    1. My son is headed there for a week starting June 30. Can’t help with long range forecast but can wish you tons of fun!!

  15. Might have to watch the skies for thunderstorm development that could be on the strong to possibly severe side. I might have to up that 1.
Tomorrow worst of the heat. As I said earlier give me a 0 degree over this.

    1. You might want to raise your scale to at least a 3 Jimmy. According to the late afternoon NWS discussion, any storms are likely to be quite severe. I am somewhat surprised though that NWS is so confident still two days away.

  16. FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT…

  17. We could have MODERATE to possbily SEVERE Level Activity so it is something to keep an eye on.
    Thunderstorm Index Breakdown
    1. thunderstorms below severe levels
    2. some severe weather
    3. widespread severe weather
    4. widespread severe weather with the threat of isolated tornadoes.

  18. I dont mind this weather at all. Summer is my season.worked outside from start to finish today. you would think being in jeans and boots all day and the heat i would come home grumpy, mole. As i said bring on the heat. Season is to short. Ac and sox on now, all is good.

    1. The good part is you have AC to go home to. We have window ACs that cool entire house nicely. It was pre ACs that made it difficult for me

      1. Sure does help. For me this just works vicki. I just dont like winters. I dont complain when its here, just deal with it. The only bad thing about summer for me would be rain and cool weather.

  19. The only reason I am not really complaining about this hot stretch is because its short. I am not a sumer person. I am a winter, fall, and spring person.

        1. I can’t wait, only 4 weeks and 1 day till then, the kids keep saying how many days dad.

            1. I can hardly wait for the Patriots. They are the only local team with the best shot at a championship. If the Celtics were in the finals instead of Miami, it would be all over by now and OKC would be NBA champs.

    1. No. Unfortunately I have to slow down my timing and call for storms any time Friday including Friday night. There may even be a few showers Saturday with the front just offshore. Sunday is the most likely completely dry day this weekend upcoming.

  20. To me the front is slowing down enough to allow the atmosphere to destablize. Of course one key is how much sunshine we get on Friday. If the sun is out full blaze and the front comes through at the time of peak heating which will be the trigger for the storms watch out.

  21. Be interesting to see if the storm prediction center upgrades us to a slight risk tomorrow. Currently were in the general thunderstorm outlook for Friday.

  22. If the dewpoints were in the 50’s, I think the heat for me would not be nearly as much of an issue. My entire house is now officially “uncomfortable”. It still felt pretty nice through mid-afternoon. As soon as sun started going down…UGH! 🙁

Now I am beginning to understand the old saying “It’s not the heat, but the humidity”.

I just don’t understand how Brad loves this stuff. ❓ HHH couldn’t be healthy for the human body.

    1. My house has also taken a turn to extremely humid since noontime. Currently 87 degrees in my bedroom, it’s going to be a rough night. Good thing the heat rarely lasts here in New England.
      The humidity is definitly

      1. To add to the last line as the comment got posted suddenly…
the humidity is definitely the issue here for me.

    2. And i dont see how you love cold and snow. Boggles my brain how you like to dress in 5 layers with heavy coats rather than shorts, t shirts and flip flops. 😉

  23. The dew point is the key. It gets into the 60s you feel the humidty and 70 and above its oppressive.
This time of year look at those night time lows. The lower the number the drier the air and the higher the number the more uncomfortable the air is.

  24. You guys are just soft. Anybody who can put up with the lousy winters and feet of snow can handle a little heat! You act like when it hits 90 degrees the earth stops turning. 😉 We get darn little of this lovely weather and you guys complain. And sweatings good for you; removes the toxins. My only regret is it wont last. You make fun of southern’ers when they complain about 2 inches of snow. Same thing here. We make fun of you guys for complaining when it hits 95 for 2 days. Im going south tomorrow for a week. Where it gets realy hot and stays that way. Hopefully when i get back there wont be a cut off low and cool onshore winds again. Hopefully that low stays up in Quebec where it belongs.

    1. The issue with us northers is the lack of a/c units in our houses, my house especially. And yes the southerns have a lack of snow removal. Hope your enjoying this HHH weather, Brad.

      1. Even with AC (which I don’t have either) there is still the matter of just having to venture “outside” even for a brief time. I suppose with 21st century technology, one can simply go online and order groceries and other necessary items with out leaving the AC house or business as well as the process of telecommuting (working from home). Not the life I want.

      2. Scott you are exactly right. Southerners will tell you they do not move from their homes in the summer. Many come north. It’s basically the reverse of our winter where we are mostly in the house. No one makes fun of southerners during snow. They simply are not prepared because it is not a normal event. The same applies here in the summer. You deal with your norm as you accurately said.

  25. People should not complain about the heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! my parents hate working in the heat so we barly do anything. 🙂 We usually go in the pool or go to the beach. 🙂 not to mention this is warming my pool aready 5 degrees and thats with no solar cover on. Ths is time for the summer fun. winter is december. which is 7 months away then let it me colder than normal and snowy. right now I rather have 90s and sun.

  26. All over facebook people are complaining about the heat way to much unlike many i like winter to be extremely cold and snowy and then summer to be hot and humid. They will be the same ones complaining about the snow and cold.

  27. I never complain about any weather. To me, weather is weather. I just deal with what comes.

    Updating blog this late hour…

  28. I’ll have to re-read. I didn’t think anyone here complained about the heat but simply said they prefer one type of season to another. I also don’t complain about weather but have my favorite time. I am truly enjoying this mini heat wave.

Was anyone here affected by the power outages? I’ll have to txt my son to see if he was. Also I was thinking when we were kids we didn’t have AC and did just fine and I don’t remember all the hype on the news about the heat. We just did what we did.

  29. Does anyone have an idea of what time it might rain Saturday? We were having a cookout but we can have it Sunday too. If rain is out of here by morning I’d still have it Sat though.

    1. 8 to 9 am it should end. beleive me y mom freaked when she saw a shower is possible Having a graduation party on saturday and possibly haveing a sleepover with cousins. 🙂
