Heat Ending

5:22PM

Short Term (through evening ): Thunderstorm threat continues through tonight in eastern MA, RI, and southern NH, though I don’t expect any widespread severe weather. Any storms that do occur could cause torrential rain and frequent lightning. Through early evening, most of this activity will occur in RI, with isolated showers and storms popping up elsewhere.

Tonight: A cold front will slowly push across the region from west to east with more widespread showers and thunderstorms, some of which will produce heavy rain and local street flooding. Not expecting severe weather from this either (damaging wind, large hail).

Saturday: With a cold front sitting just offshore, clouds will dominate to start, then a mix of sun and clouds for the afternoon, with the atmosphere unstable enough to run the risk of some pop up showers and thunderstorms, primarily during the 2PM to 6PM time frame. Drier air pushing in at night will put an end to any of this.

Sunday: High pressure will be in control at the surface, with upper level low pressure to the north. This will result in a fair, comfortable day, with most clouds popping up over the mountains to the north, leaving the forecast area with lots of sun.

Early to mid next week: Upper level low pressure will extend a lobe southward and a disturbance coming along will cause unsettled weather Monday, with a break Tuesday as a drier slotΒ  air moves in. Additional clouds will be around at midweek with a minimal shower threat as the upper low hangs around for a couple extra days.

Detailed forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southern NH…

THROUGH SUNSET: Partly to mostly cloudy. Isolated showers and thunderstorms except more numerous activity moving across RI and southeastern MA. Temperatures in the 80s to lower 90s but falling back into the 70s where rain occurs. Wind SW 5-15 MPH but variable and gusty around any storms.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Low 65-70. Wind variable to W mostly under 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy in the morning. Partly sunny with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. High 75-80. Wind variable to N around 10 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Low 60-65 except 50s some interior valleys. Wind light variable.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. High 78-83. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Cloudy. PM showers/thunderstorms. Low 62. High 74.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 58. High 75.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated showers. Low 58. High 75.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Low 61. High 74.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 61. High 81.

  1. Dark in Sudbury w/some thunder. Doppler radar showing weakening storm nearby. Don’t know if it will continue to weaken – might be a pulsing storm and strengthen again – not really sure.

        1. Same here – not much rain. Wondering where it went. To the south, I think. Actually still thundering here.

          1. More thunder here too. I’m thinking the lamb chops we were cooking on the grill may be cooked on the stove πŸ™

            1. We’re getting moderate rain now. Weird how doppler radar keeps showing so much rain and we’re not getting much – maybe later. Vicki – sorry you may have to cook lamb chops inside. Bet they are delicious, anyway! πŸ™‚ Have a great night and wknd.!

  2. Jeremy Reiner has an 88 temp for next Friday!

TK, is there another potential heat wave in the works for next weekend? πŸ™

    1. I don’t see anywhere on the models that supports that, then again it is nearly a week out.

    2. Not going to call for 90+ but it will end up warmer than today’s models have.

  3. This is just plain depressing. It has nothing to do with weather but i felt the need to share Jethro on beverly hillbillies is turning 75 and Jodi foster will be 50. πŸ™

  4. Mark If you are still here. First are you home ok? And as a not important question how did Cromwell CT do. This weekends PGA is there.

    1. Thanks vicki, I am home and everything is fine here. We ended up with 2.5″ of rain in Manchester in about 2.5 hours. A little bit less at my house in Coventry (around 2″) which is about 10 miles east. Fortunately the worst of the storms passed north of Cromwell so they got most of the play in today at the Travelers tournament.

      1. Frederic Jacobson (he won the tournament last year) is in the lead again after the first two days of play.

        1. Thanks mark. I like Jacobson mac said Driscoll and others finishing yesterday’s round today and Driscoll is just 3 shots back. Good thing they didn’t get as much rain as you did. That was some storm

  5. Although the temp has gone down, the dewpoint sure went up! Up to 70 from the low 60’s this morning.

  6. Good morning all! Finally an easy one!!

    Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.
Where on Earth has there never been a hurricane reported?
    A. Equator
    B. Australia
    C. Hawaii
    D. South America

    1. I don’t know why I’m thinking Australia, but I’ll go with it… Australia is my final answer πŸ™‚

    2. Tropical Cyclone Agni came within 1 degree of the Equator in 2004. There has also been a Typhoon just over 1 degree north of the Equator in the northwestern Pacific Ocean.

One can assume by “hurricane” they mean all tropical cyclones. If that is the case we can rule out B, C, & D rather quickly.

Which of these bugs can help you figure the temperature outside?

    A. Bees
    B. Lady Bugs
    C. Wooly worms
    D. Crickets

  8. Watching the skies once again for possible thunderstorm development this afternoon. I would not be surprised if a few got close to severe levels so go with a level 2 thunderstorm day.
Monday I am going with a 1 since I think the storms will fall below severe levels. If we could get enough sunshine with the dynamics in place with the front coming through we could have stronger storms but I think the clouds hang tough and don’t allow the atmosphere to destabilize.

    1. Jimmy, Does it look like today’s afternoon storms will hit further north including eastern Mass (Boston, north)? Most of yesterday’s decent storm activity seemed to stay south of us or over the fish. Not to say there wasn’t a couple of rumbles, but certainly nothing to write home about.

  9. Darn, I wish this humidity would give! Just enough to rest the central air and open the windows. Maybe tonight πŸ™‚

    1. I do too. Wanted to eat outside for lunch cookout but too wet. Must have poured in newton lower falls. Stuff washed onto roads

      1. More than likely since we had a decent downpour in Brighton this morning, along with 2 or 3 rumbles of thunder.

        1. Was picking up son at newton wellesley T station when I noticed. He lives in Brighton too and said same thing when we were driving back here

  10. Muggier weather today than I expected. Gosh, it feels very warm outside despite the lower temperature than yesterday.

By the way, my globe-trotting, adventurous daughter is now volunteering at an orphanage in Ghana (these are truly underprivileged children who have lost their parents to HIV or some other horrible disease). From a weather perspective, Ghana is interesting, as many hurricanes develop off the West African coast. Lisa has almost no access to the outside world (an occasional email and phone call, but the connections are sporadic at best). But, in a few recent communications she mentioned that she is experiencing very heavy rain. This is their rainy season. I am wondering whether these systems are the precursors (sometimes) to our hurricanes? TK, any thoughts?

  11. Hoping for a good storm or two later today, maybe even some hail. Back on 5/29 we saw some huge hail in Peidmont OK. Lots of baseballs and softballs, with a few grapefruit thrown in. We saw one land in the grass just off of the road that looked to be about 10″, which would have been a record breaker. Sadly we couldn’t chance securing it as we were driving ahead of the core and were afraid that its friends might have an encounter with our glass, and our skulls and such. Got shelter in town and saw a funnel from two blocks away come down. It did touch, but we couldn’t see it by then as a rain curtain shielded it from view.

  12. Shotime I think the interior has the best shot at seeing strong to possibly severe storms. This will not be a big severe weather outbreak. There maybe a severe thunderstorm watch issued for parts of New England according to the latest discussions from the storm prediction center.
On Monday with the timing of the front not coming during peak heating time I don’t expect severe weather at this time even though a lot of dynamics with it. Will see if that changes.

  13. Humidity improved once sun came out. No AC and feels great. I was shocked when I saw it is 89

  14. The dew points are down from those oppressive 70 plus we saw a few days this week.
The best is when the dew points 50s and lower because that is dry refreshing air.
