  1. Thanks tk, I believe we have seen the worst of summer,, 7 straight 90+, I would bet that doesn’t happen again for the remaining 6 weeks, good chance for rain tue πŸ™‚

    1. I’d wanna doubt you Charlie, but your winter forecasting was so good that I hesitate to disagree. πŸ˜‰

    2. I do not agree. August can be very hot. I think we get 6 to 9 more days with the tempature hitting 90 before summers end. Its only july 21.

      1. You are right about the potential for August heat but I always think of it as a cooler month. And having said that I’ve now guaranteed a heat wave πŸ™‚

        1. Actually Vicki I believe that August statistically is cooler compared to July with slightly fewer of those awful HHH days. Is October here yet? πŸ™‚

Also, note my response below regarding your daughter’s birthday! πŸ™‚

    1. A beauty of a weekend in progress!

Late next week / weekend, we may not be so lucky. Some signals for a period of cooler than normal and possibly wet weather in the Friday-Sunday time frame. Personally, I don’t care what it does because I’m probably staying close to home next weekend watching Olympics and working on in-house projects. Another post-Olympic barrage of outdoor plans awaits… The London Summer Olympics are my Summer 2012 half time show. πŸ˜‰

      1. Hmmm tomorrow my oldest will turn 32. She and kids have not felt well so we postponed celebration from this weeken until next.

As I type there is a quite cool breeze that came up for a inute out of NE. Nice

        1. Nice cool night and i have a warm home. Spraying tonight and windows closed and im not turning on the ac. BΓΊmmer.

        2. Hi Vicki…sorry that your daughter isn’t up to celebrating her birthday. Her illness isn’t serious I hope?

Was a big celebration planned for tomorrow? Hope she and kids get well soon. πŸ™‚

          1. You are very kind. They all had cocksackie (sp?) virus and it wasn’t serious but figured they would not spread the ?joy? She and family are celebrating today and we’ll celebrate next week. With the kids in different directions we often don’t hit the exact day but it’s always nice any day that we are all together πŸ™‚

  2. I did my housework and yardwork today with barely a sweat. Even though neither was strenuous it is so much different with no humidity. I just don’t understand why some people (including TK) love the HHH crap. Me and Barry are on the same page regarding that. πŸ˜‰

Anyway TK, keep us posted regarding Tuesday! I have to be outdoors during the morning hours until early afternoon and strong to severe storms are forecasted by all including NWS. If the storms can hold off until late afternoon 4:00 pm or later, I would be most grateful…any early thoughts?

    1. I love HHH because it is part of our climate. I have many memories of summer heat as a kid, and sure it’s uncomfortable, but it was always fun finding ways to beat the heat. Even as an adult, I do that. I just take what comes and make the most of it. πŸ™‚

As for Tuesday, starting to wonder if the system ends up a little moisture starved and a little faster with drier air coming in sooner and most action well north and well south of the region.

      1. TK I could not have said it better. HHH is not my favorite but it sure does bring back wonderful memories of summer days in my youth. There is, however, no way I would live in a climate where it is the norm. It tends to sap my energy and I hate not feeling full of energy.

  3. Right now does not look like a repeat of last Wednesday’s severe weather. I would not rule out strong thunderstorms for Tuesday but of course this could change. One thing which has been consistent is that once this brief spell of humid weather is over nice weather with nice temps and comfortable levels of humidity return for Wednesday and Thursday.

    1. JJ, What is your thinking as to why Tuesday’s storms won’t reach the same severe levels as last Wednesdays? I also noticed that Monday’s temps have been raised a tad to 90 along with lower 90’s for Tuesday. One things for sure, no shortage of 90+ degree days this summer!

  4. Just closing up the driving range for the night and i hate to say it, but it feels like and smells like early fall…

    1. Not too unusual to get a few chillier evenings even in the mid summer. At least up to this point we have not seen any return to the pattern that brought northwestern Europe’s worst weather to New England for most of the summer of 2009….

      1. Very true TK, I hope that never happens again. The air just had that morning dew smell that we usually experience during the late evening/early mornings during the fall. To me it felt awesome after working outside all day, but probably not for those who love the warmth of summer

        1. I know that “dew” smell very well. Sometime in the mid to late summer we’d have a day like that and when I was a kid that would be my first reminder that summer vacation didn’t last forever. πŸ˜‰

          1. The dew smell brings back memories of early morning horse shows. We’d get up at 4:00 and get to the barn, get my daughter’s pony or horse cleaned up and his mane braided and then sit in the grass with a cup of coffee while pony/horse munched away. It is the most peaceful way to begin an otherwise very hectic day πŸ™‚

            1. It’s amazing how smells trigger memories. And it’s nice to share them. TK – I loved reading yours! I could feel the same memory.

          2. It better not. :/ better stay in the middle 80s or higher until at least labor day if not most of september. then let it stay in the 60s to 70s then make it cold and snowy december through march. and hopefully the Giants and patriots go back into the play offs I want a rematch with coach o Brian as offensive cordinator.

          3. I hate that smell for exactaly that reason. I always want more beach weather but then winter comes and I want it cold and snowy for skiing

  5. Cheaply updating my blog in comments, sort of…

    No change to today’s forecast.

Still a bit on the fence about timing Tuesday but I’ll go with the hotter/humid/tstorm scenario for now and call for 85-90 both Monday & Tuesday with a chance of storms both days, better chance Tuesday when there is also more potential for significant storms.

Mild/warm & drier midweek, but we may go into a cooler/wetter phase end of the week. I have to be 100% honest that I am just not sure what happens beyond Thursday yet. I will look at it tonight and update on The Week Ahead post.

Heading to Maine for an afternoon at the beach. Have a great Sunday!

    1. Thanks for the update TK and have a great day at the beach! Sure is a beautiful day for a visit to Maine.

  6. Not weather but the only good thing I’ve seen come from the penn state news. NCAA says it will impose penalties far more severe than it ever has.

  7. Another great day to enjoy before the humidity returns for a short stay Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday could a day to watch the skies and the timing of the front will be key in determining the strength of the storms.

  8. For the golf fans out there a little drama now at the Open Championship as Adam Scott now just has a 1 stroke lead with 2 holes to play.

    1. oh cool – I won’t tell Mac as Adam Scott hasn’t even gone off yet in recording he’s watching and Tiger is on second hole. I didn’t realize he is watching so far behind.

    1. Thats what makes a great tournament. Thanks JJ. We are going blueberry picking in a bit so probably won’t see end until much later. I’m looking forward to it

    1. I told mac not to turn on his, phone since it is over and I figured there’d be CNN breaking news i of course didn’t take my own advice and saw who won. We are on the 8th with Scott now and I can’t believe the final result.

  9. Greetings from Messina, NY at the Eisenhower locks, where we were lucky to witness a large tanker lowered 60 plus ft, so it could continue its venture eastward down the St. Lawrence River.

Warmth and humidity have returned today. Just south, in Potsdam, NY, for about 1/10th of a mile, every house had rolled up branches and large tree limbs in their front yard. Around, also, were many uprooted larger trees, all courtesy of an intense thunderstorm last Tuesday or Wednesday.

Adirondacks are beautiful, undisturbed and peaceful !

    1. Sighhhh. I am both envious and so happy you are having such a great vacation. Would have loved to see the tanker lowered. Do your kids keep a journal or is that a stretch to expect On vacation:)

  10. Great breeze. From south east again. I notice a fair amount of maple leaves dropping. Some quite brown. Lack of rain??

  11. Wow…what a fantastic weekend! Spent the day at Nelson Park in Plymouth yesterday and enjoyed the beach, splash pad, and a music festival. Today was spent poolside. I’d take a summer full of these types of days in a heartbeat.

  12. I just heard the spray planes fly past me twice about 3 minutes apart. I’m at the border of the spray zone.

    1. Haven’t heard any in Plymouth yet but they are spraying Kingston and I am right on the border. I should probably close my windows but hate to keep out this beautiful sea air!

      1. Yes, you probably should shut your windows. I am not sure what exactly is in what they spray. They might be moving west to east

        1. Just read that there were more cases of breast cancer caused by the chemical they spray with than cases of EEE. Dammed if you do, dammed if you don’t.

  13. Are they spraying as close to the coast as Humarock ? We have surprisingly few mosquitoes for this time of year. Now that I’ve said that they will be put in force.

    1. The planes are flying 300′ up and the closets to the beach is Pembroke. John is right in the middle of it.
