Friday Forecast Update

3:19PM

Pardon the delay in updating today. Several issues prevented me from getting here when I planned to. Hope everybody is having a great day!

The front that moved into the region is sitting across southern New England with warm/muggy air over far southern areas and mild but still humid air just to the north. This will fuel a few showers and thunderstorms through evening, with most thunder activity to the south (RI and southeastern MA), with mostly just showers to the north where the air is more stable. This setup will be similar into Saturday though the front will sag more to the south with time, and also into Sunday when the front should be just offshore and a wave of low pressure ripples along it. Although the weekend will not be a wash-out, it looks unsettled.

Early next week, a break comes for the final 2 days of July. As August begins the middle of next week, it looks like we enter a pattern of humidity, showers, and thunderstorms.

Updated forecast for eastern MA, southern NH, and RI…

REMAINDER OF FRIDAY AFTERNOON: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny with most sun south of the Mass Pike (mainly RI & southeastern MA). Scattered showers and thunderstorms, greatest chance of storms with a few heavy downpours in RI and southeastern MA. Temperatures ranging from the upper 60s in coastal areas north of Boston to the middle 80s RI and southeastern MA. Wind variable from light NE in areas to the north of Boston to SW up to 15 MPH in areas to the south.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. Chance of showers. Lows 60-65. Wind light variable.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon. Highs in the 70s except some lower 80s interior RI.  Wind E 5-15 MPH, except S in some far southern areas.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 60-65. Wind light E-NE.

SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Highs in the 70s. Wind light E-NE.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 61. High 81.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Low 63. High 82.

WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY: Chance of showers and thunderstorms each day. Lows in the 60s. Highs in the 80s.

  1. TK, thanks for the update and thanks for the response to my question about tonight.

Also is the humidity out of here on Sun-Tues?

    1. I don’t think we get a really dry day, maybe Monday if any of them. I think Tuesday is pretty muggy again, and Sunday will be a bit humid though on the cooler side.

  2. Thanks TK.
It looks like a Florida forecast next Wed through Fri. If it is humid up here down where I will be in Virgina next week will probably be the same with humidity.

    1. Have fun in Virginia! They have sure had their fair share of severe weather this year. Where are you going in Virginia?

  3. For anyone here who is planning to watch the Olympics and has an apple device, there is a great NBC Olympics app. You choose your cable provider and can watch live or from what I understand a video of any event you miss. Equestrian is one of my favorites and they don’t show a lot of that so I hope to see more than normal of those events this year

  4. it is 68 degrees the warmest it has been all day but with the humidity it has felt like it is in the low to middle 70s. There has also been drizzle on and off today with an east to north wind.

  5. 73 here and nasty humid. I’m having trouble being positive about this type of weather. Just feels nasty. Some rain but not enough to matter

  6. We heard from Hadi and Keith after the storms went through their areas if I remember correctly But we have not heard from tom unless I missed his post and I think we’ve been hearing from tom every day. Does anyone remember his last location. Maybe he just doesn’t have cell service

  7. Is anyone else having trouble doing the loop all on the attached in internet explorer? It stopped working for me earlier last week. I tried updating Java and Adobe Flash Player but am having no luck.

  8. anyone else feel like england did not show much of its rich history. I do not and i was disapointed I wanted to see some red coats.

    1. We have only watched half but all liked it so far a lot. Thought it was a great depiction of the history of the isles in a short period of time. The only real focus on war was the great war. Since our revolution was mostly involving England and the US it may have been in bad taste to focus on it. We already have a politician over there insulting them however unintended 🙂

    2. I thought they did an excellent job, given the budget, time frame, and not letting Beijing’s influence them. 🙂

  9. 66 degrees
99% humidity and cloudy. the air is so saturated that everything has moisture on it i never recall reading a 99%humidity
    dewpoint is 65 degrees

      1. If you cool down the inside air before you can dry the air out, you’ll get condensation, which will then be harder to dry out, hence the “wet” feeling. 🙂

It may actually help to keep the AC temp setting up a little.

  10. the sun has been out for more than 2 hours the first time since wednesday. I am worried this will fire up showers late afternoon and possible thunderstorms

  11. Cloudy on the south shore now. Though the sun pops in and out. Warm temps as well. Enjoy the weekend, go sox. My son and i will be going to next sundays game.

    1. Hadi are you home now?

I just got a text from my father in law in NW CT and he said he has gotten an inch of rain in the last 15 minutes! Luckily his house in high up in the hills.

Looks like we have some really slow movers out in western New England.

  12. We are home North!! Drove from Danbury this morning and a nice drive. I was just looking at radar and thankful we left early.

    1. Welcome home. Did you have a great time?

Something just to our west. Been celebrating my oldests bday so haven’t had time to check radar.

  13. Looks as if the center of the cell will go just south of us but clouds are really odd looking

  14. intense cell around north brandford ct ,another just east of stafford ct ,one south of webster and then the one southeast of framingham. I knew the sun would not stay out for long…. but my family went along with what we call the family olympics which the whole family competes in different games. The family that has the most first places gets a gold ribbon. My family has 3 , my cousin justin has 3, and My cousin nathon nicole has 2 we hold most of the compitions at my grandparents but at our house for the water sports. its alot of fun.
it was suppose to start today but right when we were about to do so it rained. I warned them.

  15. My husband Is heading to granby MA tomorrow for golf. Any idea what the weather might be. His tee time is 9:00.

  16. Ya gotta admit a 60-70% chance for thu and got no rain, fri 50% chance of rain no rain, today a 20-30% chance of rain and we get an inch of rain go figure

    1. The irony!

And the reminder that mother nature is not entirely predictable.

And also yet another example of why I DO NOT regularly post rain chances. They are misleading.

  17. Interesting. Last cell looked far worse than one going thru here now but this has a lot more thunder and lightening. We are still having some very moderate beneficial rain

  18. Slow-moving storms have been causing flooding in portions of western and central MA as well as CT today. They are now moving into the WHW forecast area of RI, eastern MA, and southern NH. However, the greatest chance for flash flooding from slow-moving storms will be south of the Mass Turnpike and especially RI during the next couple hours. Use caution if traveling in that area. Elsewhere, rain, occasionally heavy, will be more beneficial as it is needed. Only some localized mostly minor flooding will take place.

A new blog entry will be up shortly.

    1. Daughter said driving home from bday party here they had to get off highway and there were times they couldn’t see anything

      1. We had to drive very slow when we just came home. It was very heavy. Dewpoint is down to 64 now though and it is still moderate to heavy but not like it was. Only had an additional .08 since my last post, so that is good.
