  1. Thanks, TK.

Here is the Eastern US visible loop – kind of interesting, as it shows the clouds in a big loop over New England.

If you look at doppler radar, you can see the precip. looping around, too.

Hope everyone is enjoying the wknd. A cook-out w/some fds. at their home in Millis yesterday became a “cook-in” because of the rain.

    1. That is a great loop, and it shows verification very nicely of what the European model has been forecasting for days, a disturbance keeping southern New England mainly cloudy with scattered showers today. That model was the basis for my forecast a few days ago for today being unsettled when most other outlets were following the GFS and forecasting fair weather for today.

        1. I try anyway. 🙂 I cannot say that I would have forecast as much rain and as widespread as it was a few days ago for yesterday. The potential was there, certainly.

      1. Thanks, TK – and I agree with North, too! You usually are quite accurate with your predicitions – I tend to check here before I turn to any mets on TV, radio, etc.

    1. It would feel more humid to you if it were warmer. You’ll get your wish in a few days. Muggy start to August!

      1. Why some people like high humidity is beyond me. Thankfully the many dark clouds are making conditions at least tolerable for my taste. I like my dps below 60…as low as possible. 🙂

        1. Why some people like low humidity is beyond ME! I’m just kidding…

I and some others just have good humidity tolerance. Our friend Gayle would be very happy in the Amazon, apparently. 🙂

But I like the variety, so I like the humid, and dry, and the in-between.

  2. TK – you’re the best in the business. I’m telling you, your forecasts verify more than any other local forecaster. Sure, you make mistakes (we all do), but you honestly let us know when you’ve missed a call. I appreciate this a lot.

By the way, it is indeed very humid today. I ran this morning thinking it would be a pleasant jog. Wow, the air was so thick. Could not breathe well. I’m very much looking forward to those wonderful fall days (only 5 weeks away) when the humidity’s gone.

  3. It is still very dark here in Boston. Just as it tries to somewhat brighten it seems to get even darker again. Hard to believe that as much as it looks to downpour any second, radar has only scattered showers from Worcester west into northern CT.

Dark days with no precip in late July?? I usually think of November or the winter months with this scenario. ❓

    1. i put this cloudy weather with late october to early december what i also call mud season

      1. I think mud season is March, when the normally frozen ground (ok forget about last winter) is thawing.

There can certainly be a secondary mud season in the Autumn, unless your weather pattern has been and is dry.

        1. I think of mud season as spring also. Great fun brushing it off the roses who love to roll in it

Oddly this doesn’t seem unusual to me for August weather. We seem to always have a few days like this when we are at the beach

  4. Rolling down the Mass Pike, eastbound, just east of Springfield….encountering heavy showers…..it is very dark….sky is very interesting with dark thick cumulus clouds overhead and yet some of the cloud bases of those same clouds are very, very low.

    1. Glad you are on your way home, Tom! We haven’t heard from you in awhile – be careful coming home! Hope you enjoyed your vacation.

    2. Good to hear from you Tom. Someone was worrying about how you did in the storms Thursday. Cant remember who 😉

Sounds as if you had an exceptional vacation. Welcome almost home!

      1. Thank you both !! We’re going along pretty slow with the camper in tow.

It was a great time, I’d recommend the Finger Lakes of NY and/or the Adirondack’s as a vacation to all.

Thursday was an extremely rainy day. There was about 1.5 to 2 inches of rain in the area that fell over a 12 hr period. It made the papers because its been extremely dry out in NY State. Unbeknownst to me, the region has a ton of farming and they were desperate for rain. Lakes in Adirondacks were very, very low. So, they were happy for the drenching Thursday.

  5. went biking for the first time in a month and a half went a total 25 miles average speed 18.8
on the way back MY brother chris, Ben my dad and myself all raced
1 place was my brother chris I was in the lead through out the last section of the trail while he tailed me i tried to make a larger gap and my ankle gave out so i got 2 place my front tire reached the end of the trail but his time was 1 second apart we were going at 27mph which is impresive my highest speed recorded was 28 his was 25.5 maybe next time.
then my dad came in 3 but his allergies have been effecting him.then my brother ben but he is only 12 and he injured his hip. We also did not get rained on which i was happy about. I have to say one of the most exercise that I had for the last month. Sadly the ankle that went was the one that i injured skimboarding a month ago. Going to the doctors tomorrow :/

    1. went down 3 years ago. at about 530 or 6 i forget exactly but it was early before 7 and we did not make the trip in one day. make a pit stop its not work the driving all night. my dad slept through most of the following . we were stupid and decided to camp in the heat, one evening we came back at like 8pm our tent was blown into the ocean. out camp was on the edge of a beach and a micro burst went through apparently so we decided to go to one of the hotels at williamsburg and it meant free admission to all the parks. we then went to virgina beach we stayed at the hotel for the rest of the vacation it was a two week vaca not to mention the bay was loaded with jelly fish. So the beach at the campground was closed. hoping you a fun trip hopefully goes better than ours. we are going to vermont or the cape two weeks from now or last week of summer vacation.

      1. Cool story Matt. We would sometimes drive the 18-20 hrs back from charleston without stopping. With 3 young kids 🙂
