Saturday Morning Update

9:41AM

Slower front means a wetter Saturday. Rain is still needed so it’s not all bad, but sorry if it messed up any outdoor plans. Overall, the summer has been cooperative for outdoor plans to this point, with few exceptions.

Still look for a decent day tomorrow, not hot, not chilly, somewhere in between, a bit drier but not refreshingly dry.

Still thinking we turn wet here Monday, especially afternoon & night, and that the balance of next week typical August late summertime weather with warmth, humidity, and maybe a few showers/storms to dodge but overall rain-free.

Forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southern NH…

THIS AFTERNOON: Cloudiest south and east where showers will linger at times before moving out. Elsewhere, mostly cloudy to partly sunny with an isolated shower or thunderstorm possible. Humid. Highs in the 70s, near 80 where enough sun shines. Wind light variable.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. Chance of showers especially over southeastern MA and RI. Humid. Lows in the 60s.

SUNDAY: Partly to mostly sunny. Slightly less humid. Highs around 80, 70s coastal areas. Wind N to E up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Clouding over. PM rain/thunderstorms. Low 64. High 79.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Scattered PM thunderstorms. Low 63. High 81.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated PM thunderstorms. Low 66. High 82.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 66. High 83.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 65. High 84.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 65. High 85.

SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 66. High 86.

  1. ” Rain is still needed so it’s not all bad, but sorry if it messed up any outdoor plans.”

Yes, you should be sorry TK. It’s all your fault πŸ˜‰

    1. Stop leaking the secret about us CONTROLLING the weather. If they find out…………….ugh.

    1. It feels refreshingly nice today and with temps in the upper 50’s here tonight it’s gonna feel B-E-U-T-I-F-U-L, I’m thinking my location will be 57-58 degrees when I get up at 6am πŸ™‚

  2. I read on the Accuweather site that hurricane Gordon is heading toward the UK. Will Gordon maintain its name or will the Brits have to come up with one of their own?

In other words, when a U.S. named storm reaches a different continent (Europe) does its name change?

    1. They are almost always extratropical by the time they reach Europe, but if for some reason they were not, they would keep the name they had.

  3. I love the GFS’ varied solutions to this wave west of the Cape Verde Islands. The 12z GFS takes it into the islands, weakens it with the land interaction, then starts to slowly strengthen it as it tracks right near the southeast US coast…towards Wilmington, NC. My brother-in-law and his family live there. A few more frames to go…….

  4. That will be Issac should it reach tropical storm status. Wouldn’t it be something two years in a row the I storm has a big impact on the east coast. Plenty of time to watch what develops with that wave.

      1. I was going for the middle 70’s in my area, haven’t busted 70 yet…
        I’m enjoying this though.

    1. Temps may spike after 4PM in a few locations, but it’s true, more 60s than I anticipated. At least Westfield MA hit 80. πŸ™‚

  5. 6-10 & 8-14 day automated versions are showing above normal temps throughout. I’d tweak it back a little bit, but not change much.

  6. Thanks Sue Tom and John and Coastal and all south shore residents We had no more than slight drizzle which was short lived since we arrived in your corner of the world. We’ve been outside all afternoon. Cloudy but sun off to the north

    1. Vicki, are you staying at Humarock? I have been off work since Thursday, wife is in LA until tomorrow morning. I have Monday off and was thinking of taking my family somewhere different. Is there much to do there?

      1. Vicki, hopefully if that disturbed area off of Africa does not get named Issac and want to welcome you there too :).

  7. 18Z GFS paints a much different picture on that potential tropical system. If it travels north of the Lesser Antilles and north of Haiti/Dominican, then watch out east coast. If it goes south of that area or right over it as the 18Z GFS shows, then land interaction and dry air in the caribbean will weaken any tropical system. Will be an interesting week watching this develop

  8. That system out in the Atlantic now has a 60% chance of developing into a depression. Gordon very close to category 3 strength out in the Atlantic with winds of 110mph.

      1. Yes, very interesting to see that strong a system in that area with that movement, towards the east-northeast. Best looking tropical system of the season so far.

  9. Hey North… Sometimes that happens in tropics. I remember Charley was a category 2 hurricane than strengthened quickly into a category 4 storm before making landfall in Florida.

  10. This next possible tropical depression has me a bit concerned, not sure I’m ready to make a leap into that camp but seeing spaghetti plots on it, it shows from the Carolina to NE could be in the line of fire, I seriously doubt we would get cat 1 or 2 landfall here, the more likly path that I see is a Bertha track back in 96? Anyways have a good night everyone, I’ve got to go to bed now, 60.5 degrees πŸ™‚
