4 Out Of 5 Days Unsettled

7:19AM

It isn’t about to rain for 4 out of the next 5 days, but this stretch will feature more unsettled weather than fair and stable. The lock on the nice day is Thursday. A certain unsettled one is today, which will feature lots of clouds and scattered showers as a cold front approaches the region today and crosses tonight. The Friday-Sunday period looks unsettled as the front that goes by sits just to the south, becomes the focus for overrunning moisture moving back into the region sometime on Friday, then allowing low pressure to develop somewhere in the region over the weekend which there will likely be additional episodes of showers and even the potential for a period of steadier rain. I must say, all along I have not had high confidence in the weekend forecast and I still do not. So, general wording will be used again for this update with fine-tuning as soon as possible.

Forecast for eastern MA, RI, southern NH…

TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers. Highs 70-75, 60s some south-facing coasts. Wind SW 10-20 MPH, few higher gusts.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with additional showers before midnight followed by clearing. Lows 50-55. Wind SW 10-15 MPH shifting to NW.

THURSDAY: Clouds lingering over southeastern MA and RI during the morning, otherwise becoming mostly sunny. High 61-66. Wind NW-N 10-20 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 40-45 inland valleys, 46-51 elsewhere. Wind NE 5-10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny north of Boston, mostly cloudy elsewhere with a chance of showers. High 60-65. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers daytime, steadier rain possible at night. Low 51. High 64.

SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain early, then scattered showers. Low 51. High 63.

  1. Thanks, TK.

There’s a bit of a chill in the air, ‘though it probably is the dampness. Sun trying to come out at times. Feels humid out – almost looks and feels summery again!

    1. Dewpoint is up. It may not be “hot” but it is certainly muggy, though the lack of sun and the active breeze cuts down on any discomfort.

  2. The sky looked beautiful on the drive up to Beverly this AM. I love when the clouds are darker but the sun peaks through everywhere. Neat effect.

    1. I agree I always say I feel the clouds are like natures blanket on the earth and when the sun peeks through its as if it is checking to make sure we are comfy

  3. My optimism for the weekend is rapidly going down the drain. 😉

It won’t rain for 3 days straight, but it looks pretty wet overall during the Friday-Sunday period now. I held out hope the upper low and its positioning may be incorrectly forecast on the models, but that hope is about gone.

On the bright side, there might be some pretty warm days by the middle of next week.

    1. I should not have said anything about cut-off lows not happening in autumn. You can blame me for jinxing it. On the bright side, we need the rain as the precipitation deficit continues.

      1. Ah, no worries! It’s just weather. It’s going to do whatever. My job is to follow and try to predict it. I had outdoor plans this weekend I may have to alter, but it’s really all fine. There are other weekends to do what I want. I have plenty to do inside if it’s too wet out there.

    1. What I am saying is once we get beyond the initial slug of rain it will rain off and on this weekend. I just think Friday may end up being the wettest of the 3 days Friday through Sunday.

      1. Pete is now thinking more like “showers”as opposed to heavy rain for Friday…is that your thinking as well TK?

Also, any chance that most of Friday afternoon can remain fairly dry at least and wait until mostly during the evening for the steady rains?

        1. I think Friday is more of an overrunning setup therefore a steadier rain, and as we have seen in the past, these things tend to come in earlier than model forecasts show, so I’m going to make Friday quite a wet day on my update.

      2. On a selfish note, while I dont want to see people have their plans ruined this weekend, I will happily trade poor weather this weekend for better weather Columbus Day Weekend.

        1. Tom agreed since I believe a lot have long weekend plans for Columbus Day. We sure cant complain either way since we have had exceptional weather. We need rain desperately also

            1. I’ve always thought Columbus Day was a useless holiday. Taking a day off for a guy that tried to find a trade route to India and ended up on the other side of the world…discovering a land that already had natives living on it. 😉

              Go Columbus!

      1. Not totally a done deal. But they have been talking for 18hrs. They said they have refs ready for tomorrow night and Sunday if a deal is reached. Mondays game was the final straw. Even the president has said enough. These refs should settle fast, there becoming very unpopular the more games they miss.

        1. Sadly I feel for the refs. Not their fault. NFL put them in the position and blame lies solely with big business taking advantage of the little guy.

            1. Granted. And I’d Like that for 16 days but in the scale of things in NFL they are bottom and clearly are needed. Guess we need to compare their salary to the rest of the league to keep in perspective

              1. Is your son a cop. I once was very friendly with a lutenit from the state police. He is retired now. He was always on tv.

                1. I have a lot of law enforcement in my family. All levels. He’s been in law enforcement since 2007. He just got a promo that’ll open the door to sergeant etc sooner than normal since he’s young
