The “Dries” Have It

10:02PM

High pressure to the north and evolving low pressure far to the south and east will keep southern New England on the chilly, dry side for the next several days. A north northeast wind at low levels will drive some additional low cloudiness across southeastern MA Friday. A weak disturbance at high levels will spread some high cloudiness across the sky Friday as well. Sunshine will dominate the weekend. A broad low pressure area will organize to the southeast of New England during the first part of next week, but far enough out there so that we never see any precipitation from it, only some cloudiness. This is good news regarding the weather for pre-Thanksgiving travel.

Forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southern NH…

OVERNIGHT & FRIDAY: Variable high cloudiness but still some sunshine during the day except in southeastern MA, Cape Cold, & the Islands where areas of low clouds continue. Highs 45-50. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 25-30 except lower 30s coast and urban centers. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 45-50. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 25-30. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 45-50. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Partly sunny. Low 29. High 48.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Low 33. High 50.

    1. 🙂 🙂

Its 43F in Marshfield this morning, the ocean’s 51F. Ocean effect drizzle 🙂 🙂

Anything beyond 7 days on the GFS……..the snow disappointment factor (what the GFS shows vs. what actually happens) rises exponentially.

    2. Would be nice, but that was the 0Z run.
On the 18Z run, that feature is gone.

Such is life with the fickle GFS! 😀

  1. TK’s title is perfect !

As of Nov. 16th, Logan is sitting at a monthly total of .86 inches of precip. It seems measurable precip is not to be seen for the next 7 days……could be headed for a very low monthly total.

    1. I still can’t figure out why CPC keeps going for above normal precip in its 6-10 & 8-14. It is dry.

  2. Get Ready For Some Snow! 🙁

    Henry Margusity ‏@Accu_Henry
After Thanksgiving, winter hits the eastern US with a vengeance. Snow and cold is on the way!

    1. Is this man off his rocker? What is he seeing? Does he have a crystal ball?

Oh, wait, I know what it is. It’s the annual Margusity Snow Ball! 😀

  3. Btw,

The latest Water temps from the 3 Buoys nearest Boston are:

    51.1
    50.5
    49.1

Long ways to go yet. 😀

  4. Next thing you know, HM will be telling us about a “Big Daddy.” (One that no else is able to see of course.)

  5. Henry put out his winter forecast today and it has above normal snows for the northeast. Gee what a surprise…LOL. 🙂

    1. Interesting. I wonder if the 00Z EURO will pick up on it. Regardless, looks wet. Would make for sloppy thanksgiving day high school football games

        1. Sorry, That whole link didn’t come through. If you copy and paste into a browser window, it will come up.

  6. Hmmm…. From the NWS:

WE ARE DISCOUNTING GFS SOLUTION FOR THE END OF THE PERIOD WITH OCEAN STORM RETROGRADING TOWARD 70W. FOLLOWED ECMWF WHICH KEEPS STORM WELL OFFSHORE. WEAK SHORTWAVE PASSAGE MAY BRING MORE CLOUDS ON WEDNESDAY ALTHOUGH REMAINING DRY.

  7. Will see if Henry Margusity is correct with winter coming in with vegance in the east. He sounds like The Farmers’ ALmanac which predicts a good amount of snow in December including a Big Daddy mid month.

  8. Let us recall Henry M’s recent predictions……(as I recall them, please correct me if I am in error)

Isaac : going east of Florida

Sandy : the tropical feature of Sandy itself would go out to sea and the intense disturbance coming in from the Midwest would result in a coastal storm developing, becoming intense…

So, maybe he gets this prediction right, but, forgive me if I have my doubts.

  9. We should do a comparison for the month of December whether Henry or The Farmers’ Almanac are right and see who is more accurate. As I said earlier that comment about winter coming on with a vegance after Thanksgiving is similar to The Almanac calling for a good amount of snow in December.

    1. Yes and the squirrels took up residence in my attic and cost me $720 to repair the damage they caused. So this MUST mean we are in for a Brutal, Snowy Winter!!! No? 😀 😀 😀

    1. It does…..however, to accomplish that, it depends on a very high amplitude ridge over Alaska and another big ridge just to the east of Greenland. But, latest NAO outlook is fairly neutral to month’s end, which I dont think supports the GFS’ upper level pattern…..

      1. I think the NAO might start to show a turn to negative as we get towards the end of the month. I think it will stimulate the blocking to gets us cold.

  10. From the NWS, Grey, ME:

LOW PRESSURE WELL SOUTH OF NEW ENGLAND MAY COME CLOSE ENOUGH TO BRING SOME OCEAN STRATUS INTO SOUTHERN SECTIONS TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY BUT MODELS SHOWING SOME WIDELY VARYING SOLUTIONS AT THIS POINT IN TIME SO WILL WAIT FOR SOME CONSENSUS BEFORE BUYING INTO THE CURRENT GFS.

    1. I think this may evolve more quickly and we may cloud over in southern New England on Tuesday and remain that way through Wednesday.
