The Volatility Of Spring

5:32PM

The next 7 days will be a good example of the volatile nature of Spring time in New England. Not in an extreme way, but rather a tutorial courtesy of mother nature.

We start out with a continuation of a broad low pressure circulation east of New England, sending lobes of energy/moisture southwestward to southward across the region. One such lobe is moving down from northern New England now and ahead of it some instability allowed a lot of pop up cumulus clouds during Wednesday afternoon, some producing light rain showers. As this energy from the north northeast comes across tonight into Thursday, it will set off rain and snow showers, with some minor snow accumulation possible on unpaved surfaces in the pre-dawn hours of Thursday. By late Thursday, this area will be moving away, but another one will come down on Friday afternoon and evening with another threat of some showers (mostly rain this time as some milder maritime air will be involved). Lingering instability will allow for some more pop up clouds and maybe a sprinkle on Saturday, but overall it looks like the balance of the weekend including Easter Sunday (for those celebrating) will be on the nice side. However, but the afternoon of Sunday, clouds will be racing in ahead of the next disturbance as things will be moving again in the atmosphere with the big low to the east out of the way. Rain associated with this may arrive by Sunday evening from the west and be gone by Monday morning (still working on exact timing). If this faster timing is true, Monday, which is the first day of April, may turn out to be a very mild day. That won’t last, however, as a secondary modified arctic cold front will come through late in the day or at night, setting off rain showers and even the chance of the first thunderstorm of the season. Behind that comes a blast of very late season arctic air. No it doesn’t mean we’ll see mid winter temperatures. What it means is that temperatures will be significantly below normal Tuesday into the middle of next week. Will there be a snow threat? Maybe. Too early to know. But can’t rule it out.

Forecast for eastern MA, southern NH, and RI…

THROUGH SUNSET: Variably cloudy. Isolated to scattered rain showers mainly south and west of Boston ending. Temperatures in the 40s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

OVERNIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Rain showers develop north to south and change to snow showers, with minor accumulations possible on unpaved surfaces in the pre-dawn hours.  Lows 30-35. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of snow showers in the morning possibly ending as rain showers. Highs 42-47. Wind N 10-20 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows upper 20s to middle 30s. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy morning. Mostly cloudy afternoon. Chance of rain showers late day and evening. Highs 44-49. Wind NW 10-15 MPH shifting to N.

SATURDAY: Sun & clouds. Isolated rain showers. Low 33. High 48.

SUNDAY: Sunny morning. Clouding up afternoon. Late-day or night rain west to east. Low 32. High 53.

MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms late day or evening. Low 44. High 61.

TUESDAY: Cloudy. Chance of PM mix/snow. Low 34. High 41.

WEDNESDAY: Sunny. Low 28. High 42.

  1. Thanks TK. I figure since winter was so late to arrive – two years – it can take its time leaving.

  2. Another non weather question. Does anyone know a good bakery west of Boston for hot cross buns thank you 🙂

  3. I do not have a crystal ball and yes there could be brief snow threats during the first couple of weeks of April; however, it is my opinion that the majority of southern new england will NOT receive additional accumulating/meaningful snowfall.

  4. I agree Arod, there’s a chance I get hit by a bus tonight but it probably won’t happen, it can snow in April but it rarley accumulates, from what I’m looking at though it may cool down briefly early next week it shows it already getting milder towards the end of next week, I believe any meaningful snowfall is over IMO, and Mark I’ll eat cow if I’m wrong but you gotta eat pig if your wrong, have a good evening 🙂 thanks tk

  5. Arod and Charlie be carefull we might be out of line because we think the accumulation of snow is over. I’ll tell you what I don’t think we get another snow storm around these parts again. And if you don’t like the friendly oppinion than don’t comment.

    1. John you can voice your opinion whenever you want, and becareful of what? This is a weather blog

      1. I was joking meaning we may get criticism. And exactly its a weather blog. Glad business is good Charlie.

  6. Oh boy, the three stooges are at it again 😉 Charlie, I will gladly eat a pig if I am wrong. Bacon and pork tenderloin is tastier than crow anyway!

    1. I ate crow a couple of times this winter and Mark, I believe you did too! LOL. There will be no more significant snow in these parts until the start of next winter. The large blocking high downstream continues to dissolve so any cold outbreaks will not last very long. Enjoy the crow 😉

      1. Not at all. I was just putting out a friendly poll on whether people think we get another snow storm. I guess certain people took it the wrong way.

        1. It’s a weather blog and most are snow lovers and want snow anytime, keep it in perspective that a snow lover will watch until theres 0 chance of snow, it certainly doesnt mean its gonna snow, I love snow BUT just not now, in the end it’s all fun John

  7. John I don’t take it as being criticized, everyone has opinions and most r just having fun with there opinion, it’s all good

      1. John your too childish to handle a adult conversation with multiple points of view. And because of this you come off harsh.

  8. We shall see if it snows this April. I wouldn’t be surprised.
Not predicting anything one way or the other, but I’ve been around
long enough to know it CAN and does occasionally happen and with the
weather pattern we are in increases the chances.

We’ll just have to watch. 😀

    1. OS exactly. It can be either or….and its a ton of fun to watch to see which either or it ends up being.

  9. Regarding this debate here of “snow vs. no more snow”, the spring snows that I can remember have always come out of the blue and not predicted days in advance like during the winter. The storms of 1977, 1982, 1984, 1987, 1997 were forecasted no more than a day or two in advance…if not hours with mostly nowcasting.

    So let’s just take things day-by-day until mid-April. 😉

    1. The dentist? My daughter and SIL took my grandson there a couple of years ago when it was recommended. They were there about 2 minutes when my SIL scooped my grandson up and walked out. He had no clue of anything at the time but just sensed something wrong

              1. Vicki would you mind keeping track. Sure I guess. You know accumlating snow. 11am tomorrow is the cutoff time.

              2. John seriously enough. What is the definition of a storm. I have a few other things going on in my life and didnt see anything about a poll or what the defintion of a storm is. So once again what is the defintion? I guess doesn’t help much

                1. The question was do you think we will get another snow storm yes or no. I guess to define a snow storm would be anything over two inches. Ill keep track thank’s.

    1. It can happen, but I’ll say no, it wont. I think no, because while it will be around in surges, I dont think the moisture will meet up with it. I’m guessing the cold shots will suppress the moisture to our south.

        1. Thanks Charlie. I appreciate it. I’d say that’s a good number. Ok ill guess yes in the over 4 for the remainder of the season.

          1. 🙂 And if I’m reading the above comments correctly Tk says 2 more snowstorms before April 15th so time will tell

          2. I say there are no more snowstorms left for Boston or Providence and all points in between, now Worcester I have no idea, that’s totally different over there

    1. He’s just using 2 as the basis for the poll.

I used to define 1-3 as a small snowstorm so technically 1 would count as a “snowstorm”. I think when the word “storm” is used, people automatically think big.

Even the Blizzard produced 1 inch somewhere. They were still involved in a snowstorm.

Definitions in weather MUST include some flexibility. It makes sense.

      1. You don’t think 2 inches would be a snow event? And 4+ would be a snowstorm? I mean I don’t think if 1 or 2 inches I would say a snowstorm happened only cause a few heavy snowshowers could drop that, it’s just my opinion 🙂

  10. Do you think we will get another snow storm for our area. 11am tomorrow deadline.
    John- no
    Charlie- no
    Arod- no
    Tom- no
    TK- yes
    Vicki- yes
    Mark- yes

    1. And where is this gotta fall cause if Boston gets a freak snowshowers that drop 2 inches and I get nothing I’m not gonna feel like I lost, are we going by 2+ or 4+ inches?

    2. i think im the furthest north. vicki is the furthest south. so eastern massachusetts. . middlesex excluding areas of northwest high elevations of middlesex. .,essex, plymouth, barnstable,Bristol suffolk, and norfolk counties. i think should be the range.

      1. For the majority of our viewing area. So Worchester does not count nor does highly elevated areas.

        1. We could have Vicki and tk get 2 inches but you get nothing, what does that mean? I’m just saying 🙂

          1. Charlie its just a poll. I don’t think we see any big snow at your house, my house, tks house. Its just a sill question.

      2. I still say no but barely, 2 inches ain’t much snow John and considering it will probably be gone by the end of that day, it prolly be close John

          1. It works John. 2 inches. And we know if we get a storm. Well let TK decide. Hehehe. Just kidding. Good poll. I’m sticking with yes.

            1. I have a feeling were gonna have like 6 winners and 6 losers cause I don’t think we r gonna have a widespread 2+ inches from Fall River to southern nh, it will be more like southern nh gets accumulation and we get nothing, who knows, I guess I’m just being objective, off I go be back later

              1. But its all in fun. Guideline is there. And if we are lucky it’ll be huge and there’ll be no question. If it has to be questioned those in the yes column got it wrong

    1. Like John said its just a silly poll, hopefully it doesn’t come down to snow north rain south, will see though 🙂

  11. Yes, one more snowstorm….at least 4 inches for Logan.

I believe 2 predicted by TK is a stretch especially inside 495. I really can’t recall in my lifetime at least of more than one in April. I would say whatever snow falls for the month it is in one storm (major or minor).

I am going to check the stats if snow has fallen at Logan in April AND May in the same year and for that matter, March AND April in same year. Just off the top of my head though, we may snow unprecedented in back-to-back spring months.

    1. I would be surprised with two also but as I keep saying every storm lately is not normal so who knows

  12. Ok…just got home from 12 hours at So Shore Hospital with my dad. He took a fall last night and has slight infection but otherwise is ok for 92. They’ll keep him for a couple of days and then see whether he can go back home or to a short rehab stay.

On the subject of another snowstorm or not….hmmmm….First tough to say what is snowstorm for all to consider it to be a snowstorm. How about an average of 2 inches as measured at Worcester, Boston and Providence? Anyway….I’m in the I Have No Idea group but will cast a vote by 11 am tomorrow.

  13. Hi guys,

Have had a brutal week and no let up for me until Sunday….uggghhhhhhhh.

Put me down yes, one more snow 2-4″ for Logan with an 8-12″ here out in the hills. This pattern isn’t going to change without a storm IMHO and it’s still plenty cold out.

I still have a solid foot on the ground in most areas and my driveway snow banks are still 3’+ high.

      1. It takes forever for it to melt some years and this is one of them. That 100″+ we ended up with is a lot when you think of it.

    1. It’s like a different climate out there, I’ve driven out to Fitchburg once and I left my house and it was green trees and flowers and then there, there were no leaves on trees and this was late April early May, 3 different weather codes from retrac to Plymouth Ma, pretty incredible

    2. Retrac are you near Pepperell or Groton. We were there last evening for my aunts visiting hours – 95 years young – and there was not much snow at all.

          1. Yup, really not far at all. If I hit the traffic right, I can even be in Boston in just under an hour.

        1. Thank you North. She had a wonderfully long life so it is more of a celebration. Sadly she was the last of that generation on my side of the family

  14. Tommorrows sunrise is 6:34am and sets at 7:08pm, same as late Aug early Sept, I always find it fascinating how fast we gain and lose sunlight 🙂

    1. Yes, many many years ago…2″ in fact but I have no idea what year.

      Maybe OS remembers, LOL. 😀

          1. Vicki,
I am probably mistaken. Perhaps what I am remembering was snow on dates NEAR
the Marathon date, but not actually on the same day. 😀

  15. From experience, we may be best off if we pick a location for the 2 inch amount. Suggestion if you don’t want to use Logan or Worcester is somewhere like Bedford. Or even a town one of the bloggers is in that can measure. Just a couple ideas.

  16. Just heard I am heading to Cuba at he end of April on a trip !! I am so pumped.

Keith sorry to hear about your dad. Hope he heals fast.

    1. Nice Hadi. We are heading to Jamaica mid-month, just south of there. I can’t wait to get to the warmth!

      1. Jamiaca will be fun!!

I am heading to Florida in April for vacation and then get to do this 🙂 free trip and paid to go! Can’t ask for more.

        1. Nice. Double dose. Should be fun. I have to drive to Toronto to fly out, hoping for no snow or lake effect!

  17. Up until 1936 all official Boston wx observations and measurements were taken on Boston Common…thereafter at Logan Airport where they have been (innaccurate) since. 😉

      1. I would go along with TK’s suggestion of Bedford or Norwood or even Taunton. Somewhere not elevated, in the 128-495 area and not on the immediate coastline, especially not a place that is surrounded by paved runways.

  18. Widespread 2″+ from the Berkshires to Boston, Hartford to Providence, and Nashua south to Wrentham. So pick your spot, I’m in for another solid accumulation of snow in most of SNE. Only spots I am not sold on are the immediate south coast, Cape, and Islands. Tell me what portion of the cow you like Charlie – filet, sirloin, prime rib? I’d like to start aging the steak now so it is nice and ready to grill during the snowstorm.

  19. I think there is a reasonable chance for at least one more plowable snowfall.
So that’s a YES for me!

  20. I have a decent open area in my backyard for measuring snow if you want to go with Brighton. Or Logan’s good too, Charlie 🙂

  21. Well, BB has added another 2F from yesterday’s forecast and is up to 62F on Monday. Monday will probably end up 65F to 70F……

And this morning’s 0Z run of the EURO is a beautiful thing.

It actually has a slight positive NAO at day 10.

From that, Canada cools off, the US warms up and a storm near the US/Canadian border and not south of us, travels the sharp temperature gradient.

What a warm surge it has the first full weekend in April. I think 8-12C at 850mb. Beautiful !!! Lets hope this signal continues !!!

    1. BB also said that Tues day would be colder and that there might be a possibility of seeing flakes.

  22. I vote for one more snowstorm of 4 inches or more, even though Barry said the magic word “70” in his forecast this morning. Winter just doesn’t seem ready to completely let go. And I have been enjoying seeing more of Barry! He is a gentleman and a complete professional.

    1. Nice ace. I think your points are valid. As tom was saying also we could be hitting 70 real soon. I know it can still snow but I just don’t see it. We should be Lucky that we made out so well for March, typically around here lately March has been Snowless.

  23. Although I don’t want any more snowstorms until nxt. Fall/Winter – I have to give a yes to another snowstorm. I remember snowstorms in April and I think one in early May back in the late 70’s.

BTW – much of the snow has melted around here but we still have big snowbanks and many areas of snow still around. Probably due to all the trees in our yard.

  24. Did everyone enjoy that coating of snow last night that never happened? LOL. Snow is over folks. Coatings at best until next winter. Enjoy the warm weather on Monday. That is just a preview. Spring appears to make its debut in one week. 😀

  25. Saw from her facebook page Melissa Mack is going back home to her old job at Fox8 in Cleveland. Boston is a much more exciting place IMO. I’ve been to Cleveland a couple times for work so it is an opinion from experience. She never quite looked happy here though. I will miss her and wish her luck!

    1. She never liked it here is what I’ve heard, she loved Cleveland from what I understand, I’ve been to Cleveland once and that’s probably 1 to many for us, I thought it was terrible

  26. And john, I am in the NO snow camp till next season. Even if forecasted teleconnections stay conducive for storminess, I think we are entering into a dry pattern.

  27. Tk had a suggestion that we use Bedford for any measurement, I think that sounds good if all agree. I vote to let tk be the judge. I will put the list out at 11am. Thanks.

  28. Why don’t we take a more centralized locale like Logan, I don’t understand, why the hek Bedford? It’s way north of boston

    1. Bedford averages between 1-3 inches more than Taunton in april, taunton averages a half an inch in April,, so big difference on where we measure from

          1. Why Bedford, why the hek is in Bedford, Taunton is where the weather service is, I say Taunton or Logan, certainly not Bedford 🙂

          2. Its not elevated. I had said no snowstorms for most of our viewing area. People now are making this confusing. So you guys pick taunton or Logan. We will keep the poll open till 1pm. If no decission is made it will be taunton.

  29. I went to college in Cleveland and I cannot understand why Melissa Mack would want to go back. Some of the suburbs are very nice but the city is not great to say the least. At times, the weather can be unbearable especially when the wind comes off the lake in the winter.

  30. John….I say yes to snow.

Hadi….I am jealous of your trip to Cuba. Years ago when I was vacationing in St. Maarten I met a very nice older couple from Canada. They were telling me about their trips to Cuba and they said they have some the prettiest beaches they have ever seen. Enjoy your trip!

  31. Put me on record that Worcester does not even see an inch of snow for the rest of the season 😀

  32. So we are still debating this?

Ace I am beyond excited to go, I work for a travel company and it’s a part of our Foundation.

  33. John in response to your question about Cuba, because it’s a people to people program. It allows us to learn about the Cuban people and vice versa. Cuba will be open very soon so this is rare opportunity to travel before things change. The Cuban people are wonderful people that want to learn about us and I want to learn about them.

  34. John there is more to the world than just the U.S 🙂 I have traveled all over the world and I am a better person because of it.

    1. But your right hadi if you don’t live somewhere other than America you r a smarter person bc of it, totally agree

  35. This blog has gotten a little aggrevating in the past couple days – ill be seeing you guys next November!

    Take it easy!

    1. I agree DS.

Some of John’s comments are extremely out of line and down right offensive. For instance, last night at 6:18pm he was telling people not to comment. So he basically said that we should not to share your opinion. Isn’t that what a blog is?

      1. The only offensive person on here is you. You bash me here and have bashed others. I could care less what you say coastal and your not going to run me off this blog. I have never come across a person that is as rude as you.

          1. No its you, Coastal. I left this blog basically because of you. I still read it, but dont post since I cant stand you like poison. Your abrasive and rude.
            Have a nice day

  36. I think there is a bit too much focus on where the snow will fall. I thought TK said something about an average or was the Keith. Someone did and it made good sense to me. We are all smart enough to know that even if Logan or Taunton get no snow and metro west (for example) has 2 or more inches, it’s a storm.

      1. Sorry John – I sure didn’t mean to make you angry by making a suggestion since others are also doing the same. With every poll we have had there has been input from many here as to guidelines – timetable – area – etc. If you remember, you had a tremendous amount of input when we started the snow totals for the season as to cut off time, reminding people they needed to get their numbers in, area and so forth. It didn’t bother me at all. Not sure what the problem is but I sure never mind keeping track of something and having people suggest when, how and what.

        1. Your good Vicki. I just cant be bothered. We had agreed over two inches and than it just snowballed. It was just a stupid poll. If people want to still do it we can.

      1. I’m south of that but because my elevation, still 100% snow-covered whereas Worcester is almost bare only a few miles away

  37. Boy this more snow, No more snow talk is getting hilariously funny to me.

Here is some fuel to the fire, a great article on WHY SPRING will be DELAYED in
    the Northeast. 😀

    GeoEnvironmental Atmosphere
Something just isn’t natural when Montana is warmer than portions of Florida come March 27th! So, is Winter ever going to let go of the Northeast and the United States? Click the link to find your answer.

    http://geoea.org/2013/03/27/a-struggle-for-spring-is-there-any-hope/

    1. Hmm 12Z Canadian and 12Z GFS hint at something out there around
April 7th or so. Waiting on Euro. 😀

      1. LOL. It will be July and we’ll be waiting on the 12z EC for possiblilities for snow 😀

  38. and this is why i dislike spring so much. clouds, clouds and more clouds and in the 40s. I can not wait for the weather thats good for biking, swimming etc. this weather stinks. either get colder and snowy or get warmer please.

    1. Matt as you and I were calling for 50s this weekend, I think easter will be in the high 50s someone could hit 60 I think. It may get a tad more colder Mark but warmer weather is definitely in the near future.

      1. more in the mid 50s i do not think as warm as i was thinking earlier. monday there will be alot of people seeing upper 50s and low 60s

  39. Snowlovers hate when a snowhater tells him/her that there’s no more snow coming and a snowhater hates when a snowlover tells him/her that more snow is on it’s way, it happens on every blog and can get nasty between the two but this blog has bloggers that respect people’s opinions and most to what I can tell everywhere here genuine nice people 🙂

      1. My mom hated the word hate too 😉 And we could never say we were mad…..she said only dogs got mad and we had to use angry. And she never thought anything she said to me sunk in 😯

And you are right about the genuine people and I totally agree. I’m not sure about the snow lovers or haters…..I just think there will be more snow but will be more than thrilled if there isn’t and spring weather arrives. I love it all…….even the dark clouds and rain I am watching out the window right now 🙂

  40. TK, I was in Woburn today for yet another ATM install and drove by a Woods Hill Circle. Is that the area that you live? As much as it is a pain to drive through the city traffic in the morning I am enjoying seeing parts of the state that I have never visited.

    1. Yep – I went out and took one look at our deck and just came back into the house. The snow on the lower level in the back is mostly melted now but the grass is really squishy so there won’t be any outdoor hunts here. Not to mention the land mines the dog leaves when we just let him out on his own if there is snow.

  41. Just glancing at the blog today … wow, a few of the comments and posts. Guys, let’s call a truce! This is a great blog and I enjoy reading posts from all of you: Coastal, John, Hadi, OS, Vicki, Sue, Arod, Mark, JJ, DS, Retrac, etc … last but certainly not least: TK! It’s OK to have disagreements, but let’s try to be civil if we can.

Matt Souza, you are soooo right about today’s weather. This is my weather nightmare, quite frankly. We’re in it right now. Too warm for snow, obviously, too cold for fun outdoor activities, almost no sunlight, and really not much to look forward to weather-wise. I mean 40s and low 50s just doesn’t cut it for me, especially if there’s limited sun, threats of cold showers, gloomy all around. By the way, I did not buy into the warm up that some have been suggesting will be happening soon. In fact, I doubt whether a warm-up is imminent at all. I don’t think a relaxing block will help much, either. I think we’re going to get our fair share of easterlies. The relaxing block may actually be bad for us in that it will allow more lows to come this far north and cool us off with cold rain, wind, and “dismal.” All-right enough depressing talk. Time to pop my Prozac.

      1. Could you please put a stop to the verbal abuse that has been going on here towards me. If nobody likes something that I say or anybody else says they should just not comment. This blog is awesome but feel some guide lines should be set. Thank you. If Im not wanted here I will sign off.

          1. Coastal I have no idea what you mean but am sincerely hoping its your way of calling a truce….

            1. His crass comments and rude treatment of others on here is costing this blog quality individuals. Individuals that could make a positive addition to this place.

              1. Coastal i respectfully disagree. If someone leaves because of one person I’d say they had nothing positive to add. Everyone has differences but as was wisely said earlier lets be adults and work them out politely. Its life. I for one don’t want to see anyone leave here.

As I have said before there are younger folks reading this blog. So maybe you could talk to John in a way that sets an example.

Yea I know I am butting in so ill butt back out. I hope you can work it out

                1. Vicki, I’m glad you said something because I’ve been thinking and thinking of something to say to help.

Guys, please, just stop !! Move on from this latest squabble. I enjoy reading both of your posts, but give each other a break !! Please !!

                2. Yes Vicki you are butting in but that’s not new. So let me get this straight, if someone leaves because of another person, then the person that left would not have added anything positive to the blog anyway? Thats a narrow minded thing to say.

                3. Or is the person leaving because of your bickering which takes two. I will leave you to figure that out

                4. Bickering, I’m assuming because you did not stand by your comment that you meant it. That’s too bad Vicki I thought you were better than that. I think i understand your support for John and the narrow mindset you displayed earlier. Union supporters think a like. Ruined this country and is now killed this blog. I’ll am very happily showing myself the door.

  42. why the heck did the patriots sign wide reciever Michael Jenkins from the minnasota vikings what the heck. we need a good deep threat that can get open.
    sorry for my football talk.
its still cloudy and i think people are going to be surprise to see more clouds than sun on easter and thus why i do not think we get into the upper 50s to low 60s that i was thinking also wet by late afternoon

    1. SIL agrees Matt. I just checked his stats and even I can see they replaced welker with two rather than with a superior player. It gets curiouser and curiouser

  43. Sue… Woods Hill Circle, though not my street, is indeed on the same hill that I reside on. It’s a very large, sprawling hill with lots of streets on it. 🙂

  44. Beginning to get concerned about a cool, dry NW flow for the next 30 days +- then when it breaks, red flag warnings before green-up.

  45. My 2 trees are about 5 days behind last year, they have a maroon deep tint that is now very noticeable, a few more weeks and the landscape will change dramatically, it always does, at this pace my 2 trees will bud and have leaves around last week of April, last year it was mid April which is early, it won’t be long now 🙂

    1. Charlie my daffodils still have not flowered but as I’ve said they never did until the very end of April now its mid march to early April. Lots of red hue to the trees here too.

    1. Me too. I love when it is dark early and I love when its dark late. Just a sign that things are changing. I cannot imagine not anticipating new seasons.

      1. Vicki, I love coming home from work in the daylight. It raises my spirits. I’m still going to work in the dark, but that should change soon. And all of my snow is disappearing quickly the last few days. I can reach the birdfeeder and see the tulips poking up. Easter weekend should be beautiful, as it should be.

        1. My husband agrees. I haven’t looked for my tulips but am about to cut a few daffodils in hopes they will blossom for the dinner table this weekend. I have to fill my bird feeders. Sadly I do not in winter any more as they attracted mice which then thought we had a boarding facility in our attic 😉

          1. One of my neighbors loves our visitors at the birdfeeder (which includes 20 or so wild turkeys), but a few are a bit frightened. We have a lot of chipmunks, but thankfully I haven’t seen mice.

          2. I love wild turkeys. They were at last barn where my oldest had her horse. They stood in the driveway one day and wouldn’t let her husband leave. I wish we had them.

  46. Coastal- we have had many differences but let’s just be men here and call it truce. I don’t think anyone would want to see either of us leave. And I’m sure tk does not want this going back and forth. I’m willing to respect your opinions and hoping you can respect mine. If you don’t like me there is nothing that I can do about that. But I can agree to respect your thoughts. I’m asking you to let’s just move forward and be mature men. I call truce coastal and hoping you can as well. I’ll buy you a beer at the next meetup.

    1. I look forward to meeting you, John. And I also look forward to meeting Coastal. I’ve enjoyed posts from you and Coastal.

We the `WHW battalion’ will never see eye to eye on everything. Gosh, the world would be really boring if we all shared the same viewpoints. I’m sure I’ve said some things that rubbed people the wrong way, or with which people disagreed. That is reason for debate, but not for endless bickering.

I do look forward to continuing to post my thoughts. However, my posts will start to dwindle as spring and summer approach. I usually come out of my shell to start posting again when I begin to see signs of autumn: the first mid August cool evenings, browning and yellowing of the leaves of the chestnut tree along with the ripening of the chestnuts, the arrival of chrysanthemums.

  47. Starting with the next entry, I will remove posts that I consider not necessary.

The issue is not up for debate, so that’s all that will be said about that topic.

This place will not turn into what other blogs and sites are.

I’ll be adding a couple admins during the next several days that will be doing some of the site admin that I usually handle. Neither are meteorologists but you may see them pop on with a comment now and again.

Around April 1, you may see a small advertising space show up somewhere on the page but it will not be intrusive. This is the next step in a longer term plan for WHW.

There are currently no plans to make this a log-in site, but that option may be considered in the future.

Updating the blog – out by 9.

    1. Thanks, TK. It’s your blog and it’s important you direct it, if you will, like a conductor of an orchestra.
