  1. I think its important to spread the word

There is a movement today in and around Boston to TYB. Touch your bag. If everyone is touching his bag, even if its only with a toe, and then u look around and see a bag not being touched you move away and you report it. They r saying do this in any public place too as well as the T

      1. I hope its ok to talk weather a bit……… North, what is the weather like in Jamaica ? And how is the sunlight, as I’d think the sun is nearly overhead at solar noon ?

        1. Thanks North – are you having a great vacation? Are you home Tom?? And how has your vacation been?

It’s a crisp, spring morning here!

          1. Hi Vicki.

We are here, near Hershey, until Saturday morning. Sunday was Hershey Park and yesterday, we visited Amish country. My kids were fascinated with the horse pulled buggy’s on the roads and I think my 5 yr old was amazed at the idea of no electricity, or TV, or Ipod’s….etc.

We had finished walking around and upon getting back to the truck, I was searching the fm dial for a sox score and I came upon what had happened in Boston that way.

52F with low clouds this morning. They are saying if the sun breaks through, it could get to 74F and there’s a chance at a few showers/storms this evening. Has a shot at 80F later Thursday and maybe Friday as well.

            1. I also was fascinated seeing the horse and buggies parked along the street right beside the cars. I find the Amish lifestyle fascinating. I’m glad you are having a nice time and great weather. Enjoy!!

            2. Tom, sounds like you are having a great time. Amish country must have been neat for both you and your family to see. Sounds like you lucked out on the weather. Is Hershey Park open yet?

          2. The weather has been great in Jamaica since we got here. Very windy but sunny. The sun is pretty much overhead at solar noon. Even with SPF30 we are getting sunburned a little bit. It is funny how the wind goes calm at night. Makes me think of the seabreeze at home during the day. Vacation has been great so far. The weather station is funny here. When we arrived Saturday, the whole week was showing cloudy and showers and then each day they change the short term forecast to sunny. They must use the NAM for 60-84 hours!

We did stay glued to CNN yesterday afternoon and are sad to see what is going on at home.

            1. Nowcasting??? – 😉

Glad you are having a wonderful time. Amazing getting some burn even with SPF 30. Stay safe and have tons of fun!!

  2. Thanks, TK.

Posted this in earlier blog – meant to post it here.

Latest winter storm is now called Yogi. Enough said? Anyone laughing yet? Gosh, TWC is determined to get to Zeus even if someone gets a snow flurry! And what if someone gets a snowstorm after Zeus this season? Start with new names?

    1. To solve the debate…I guess winter is “over” when a storm is not named by TWC… 😛

  3. awful event yesterday. from having fun in the morning and biking to that. im so happy that Boston hosts one of the top hospitals in the world. If it was not for them more people would have died. 🙁 but back to the weather

    1. its a beutiful day today. i usually raise my american flag. and the flay that my family made saying that says Souza on it below it. i raised it up at 9am and lowered it about 1 hour after the event 🙁

  4. My wife works at the Brigham as a nurse. She said the hospital is heavily armed with FBI agents and state police walking around with machine guns. It is believed that the suspect/person in question is a patient there at the hospital and it was his home in Revere that was searched via a warrant last night for nine hours. We will soon find out who is responsible and justice will be served.

  5. A pall hangs over the beautiful city of Boston. The hub’s glory was magnified this morning as the sun shone brightly against the backdrop of a piercing blue sky, revealing the city’s gracefulness; its brownstones, church spires, bridges, parks, and monuments. Yesterday was to be that special day on our calendar when we celebrate that quirky holiday no other state in the union observes: Patriots’ Day. A day which is arguably more important than July 4th, because it commemorates the every day colonials (not statesmen, not officials, just farmers, really) – the minutemen – whose grit and determination freed our country from the clutches of British imperialism. How fitting that the world’s most famous and intimate marathon happens every year on Patriots’ Day. Since I was a child, I’ve admired the grit and determination of those runners, almost all of whom have no commercial interest at stake. In fact, many do it out of altruism, for charity, for our fellow citizens less fortunate than we. The spectators along the route are there to cheer on their relatives, friends, acquaintances, or just to enjoy the moment of watching triumphant individuals finish the grueling course. All of this was shattered yesterday. Destroyed by a vile act of cowardice. Terror and terrorism, plain and simple. I wish our President would have expressed it as such. My hearts go out to those whose lives have been lost or ruined by this heinous crime.

  6. Joshua well said and my heart goes out to all of those who are affected by this. The story of that 8 year old who was killed and the mother and sister seriously injured makes you want to shed a tear. Thankfully the death toll is low but its still 3 people too many that lost their lives yesterday.

    1. Yes, indeed. The death toll may be low, but we must think of how this has ruined the lives of many others, some of whom are clinging to life, lost limbs, etc … Their lives are shattered. Their loved ones’ lives are impacted. Those who helped out the victims will be haunted by this memory for a long time. However cliche this sounds, I think it’s fair to say the Boston Marathon will never be quite the same again.

And though I don’t say this for political points – I voted for the guy – I’m appalled at our President’s lack of emotion. My anger towards him in times like these is somewhat visceral and it’s been that way for a long time. The man can really seem robotic, and a politically correct robot to boot. I just cannot take it when our President displays no emotion, nothing, at a news conference during which he’s telling the world about what happened in Boston. He looked absent at that conference. His eyes were vacant. I’m thinking c’mon, sir, please. Show me you’re human. He shows more emotion towards his campaign staff volunteers (the famous post-election video) than he does to the everyday person who’s suffering or suffered.

        1. Joshua – I talked to my husband about the president. I have a strong tendency to see the positive and miss the negative. He lived years as I believe you know in Rome during the Red Brigaide era so perhaps is much more familiar with terror than most who live in the U.S. He said that the president is appearing not only to this country but probably to those who committed this horrendous crime. They want to see him emotional – they want to see him break. I know Mac and his entire family were “trained” in what to do if they were taken hostage so I wonder if what he sees is just something we are not used to???

          Just a thought.

          1. You could be right. I’m not asking for much, though. No tears, no breaks. Just an honest display of emotion and anger within reason. Also, I could do without the political correctness. Call a spade a spade. This was an act or terror or terrorism. We don’t know who did it and whether it is domestic or international, but it is an act of terror. Obama could not even utter that yesterday.

        2. You’re right. But, while I admire Obama’s perseverance and generally his politics, I’m also tired of his persona (and disappointed by Michelle’s foray into the Vogue world). There’s something off-putting about our President. I can’t put my finger on it. Clinton gave me a similar vibe, but for completely different reasons. Clinton displayed fake emotions, while Obama doesn’t show us anything. The latter troubles me. I guess that’s because I come from a family in which we’ve been encouraged not to be stoic, and this does not just apply to the women in our family. Men, too. The motto is be real, don’t withhold.

  7. Who cares if the trees are budding or if there r flowers in my yard, Boston is our city, find these cowards must meet justice

  8. Joshua I think our president handles these events as a president should. He is the leader of the world and must demonstrate a sense of power and authority. Others might view it as a lack of emotion but I view it as him displaying his authority for the world to see. Our previous president lacked a sense of knowing how and when to behave appropriately.

Lets do our due diligence in finding the right person. Just bc a Saudi national is at BWH doesn’t mean he is the suspect. If he is then the full wrath of our justice system should be thrown at him.

    1. Thanks, Hadi, for your comments. I respectfully disagree. I see in Obama a vacant look and aloofness that baffles me. Yesterday’s conference was hard on the eyes, quite frankly. It’s not just the cool demeanor, which I’m not a fan of. It’s more than that. One does not necessarily derive a sense of power and authority from a cool, aloof response.

By the way, in no way do I wish for the days of President Bush. In terms of policy, I think Bush had it all wrong. I do think Bush senior had a more appropriate demeanor in times of crisis. Awkward, yes, but I appreciated that. It made him human.

  9. 66.4 with a 42 dp here – gusty breeze around 6-7 mph. Light cloud cover giving way to what looks to be heavier clouds to the northwest.

  10. Joshua remember when Obama spoke about the newtown shooting tears coming down his eyes. That was a national tragedy so his reaction was appropriate whereas yesterday he needed to show a certain toughness for the world to see. I think his emotions are geared up for the occasion and how he should react. Anyway some weather here in Orlando

    86 current temp
    DP 68
    Mostly sunny
    Visibility 10+miles
Winds east at 10 gusts to 18

  11. not tring to make this a joke by any means and sorry if it comes across that way. for those who are on my facebook….. i have a picture from no hope for man kind picture saying. on the top “Clearly” on the bottom saying ” someone forgot what happened the last time Evil showed its face in boston” with a picture of two guys on the sidewalk by a building.

  12. If whoever did this gets away with it, I don’t want to think what this says to these cowards

  13. Obama is a hollow puppet IMHO – always has been. No fan of Bush either.

What I said about the Ct. school shooting applies here and that’s that we exist among Godless, soulless animals.

    Broken heart here.

  14. I think we need to put politics aside here when it comes to Newton and what happened in Boston yesterday.

  15. We got into the low 70s today with dewpoints in the mid 50s and am sitting outside very comfortably in t-shirts and shorts.

The sun was headed for the horizon and just guot cut off at the pass by a towering cumulus cloud, that the sun is illuminating the top of. Just peeked at radar and some showers/storms are developing to the west of Harrisburg, PA with a big area of rain and storms in eastern Ohio/Western PA. I believe a wet night is in store.

    1. Tom I can’t remember if you sleep in tents or a camper. I was telling my kids the other day what a great time you have.

          1. Thanks Vicki, we are ….. while maintaining a balance of following the developments “at home”.

I had never camped until 13+ years ago when I met my wife. She had camped since she was young. When I tried it, I loved it. As I recall, we purchased a tiny, well broken in 🙂 popup, then a few seasons with a 10ft popup, traded in for 8 seasons of a 12ft popup and then just bought the camper that has electric hookup, which I’m using on this trip, heat, A/C, microwave, stove, oven and bathroom, but not a ton of space that is reserved for the bigger RV’s. But, we usually are out and about most of the day, so, we dont need that space….yet. But, maybe sometime down the road.

With good blessings, I can see camping winter away in the south perhaps 15 to 20 yrs from now.

            1. I would love to have a small camper to travel the US when we retire. Not much bigger than a van but with bath and kitchen. We’d be outside mostly too and space is not the priority for either of us.

              1. Forrestmarine in Tyngsboro …. They have a website, we have bought from them the last couple of times, cant say enough gpod things about them. Great customer service, great product, reasonably priced.

  16. I don’t know if i even want to share this, but i heard the wackos from that westboro baptist church are planning to protest the funerals of the 3 who were killed in the bombings yesterday. Claiming it is God’s punishment for our state’s stance on gay marriage. Along with whoever was behind the bombings, they are what’s wrong with society as well. I was so sickened when I heard about that.

    1. If they go down to protest the funerals i would go down to their church and protest that they can no longer be around, it is also just one church…. Kick them out

  17. My son had his first baseball game tonight and it was cold. They won and he went three for three with hitting the ball. Nice birthday gift.

        1. John, Happy birthday to your son and good for him in baseball tonight. As for the cold temps, what do you expect…it is April after all, LOL. 😀

  18. If I am not mistaken the Saudi from Revere has been cleared as a suspect and declared a victim of the bombing like everyone else who was in the area at the time.

It is good to see prime time programming back tonight…we can all use a break. 😀

  19. It will get much harder to solve this after 48 hrs. Most suspects by that point have had the opportunity to escape the region etc. Glad to see the Saudi was not responsible but wish people did not just assume. I guess it’s the way of life and trust me I know as I have searched at various airports throughout my life. And searched in unpleasant ways 🙂

  20. There was something I heard about wearing purple to support people in Boston. Is there something significant about the color purple? (Just curious) I’m going to wear purple tomorrow at school.

I love your blog title for this one TK. It makes me hopeful for even more “warm punches”. I want to be “knocked out” of my jacket. 😉 Bad joke…I know.

I hope everyone here enjoy the weather tomorrow! And I hope you all are mentally recovering from the tragedy, and that everyone that you care about is safe.
