One Front, Two Front, Red Front, Blue Front

11:49PM

Text book style weather changes on the way the next few days. They go this way…

Warm front approaches Thursday so sun will eventually have to yield to some cloudiness.

Warm front passes Thursday night and introduces an early-season tropical air mass on southerly winds.

The southerly flow gets stronger during Friday which will be a mostly cloudy day with a slight chance of passing showers and very mild and rather humid air.

Cold front approaches Friday night with a ribbon of heavier showers and possible thunderstorms approaching from the west but holding off until after midnight for much of the region. It will also be breezy and quite mild all night.

Cold front slowly passes through Saturday morning with rain ribbon slowly moving out from west to east while sliding northeastward. Clearing line approaches from the west and the natural progression of sun-in-sky to westward while clearing line moves eastward means that a day that starts grey and wet will end bright and drier, but also cooler.

High pressure builds in Saturday night & Sunday with dry, cool weather.

Early to middle part of next week will see a slide back toward unsettled weather as an upper trough approaches from the west.

  1. Interesting weather pattern, especially when you can have a tropical air mass on Th ursdayand a low temperature of 35 on Sunday.

  2. Has the last chance of frost for Logan passed? I looked at the records, and it was 32 on April 7th.

I’ve got a few plants outside – looks like they may need to come in again on Friday evening for a while. Too bad…

    1. I hope so I planted a week ago, and the plants and flowers were watered this morning and look great 🙂

  3. Again they keep saying they will find these guys but I have a terrible feeling it will take a few years or not be caught at all

    1. Charlie I think by end of this week we will have person or persons in custody. They have clear fottage of two people.

  4. Thanks TK !

Clear to our northeast in New England, with mild, dry air. Clear to our west and southwest, with warm, tropical air …. we are seeing low clouds with a SE wind as we sit in the boundary btwn the 2 airmasses. Currently its 57F.

Weatherwise, looking forward to tonight, as the expected low is supposed to be 62F in the warm sector with dewpoints to match and we’ll see how warm tomorrow can get before the rain arrives.

    1. Tom, when are you back? Hope the weather is ok if you are still there tomorrow and isn’t too rough.

      1. When do you return North? And do you return with a drive back from Canada too? Hope you both have a perfect remainder of your vacations!

        1. Fly back to Toronto Saturday and then drive back home on Sunday. My daughter is really missing the dog.

          1. We are here thru Friday, departing Saturday morning and I am hoping storms wont be too severe tomorrow.

Thats ok, we have the rec hall and other sturdy buildings to shelter in during the strongest part of the storms.

    1. We probably won’t hear from OS for awhile until maybe November when Logan’s snow totals are due…or if a hurricane threatens us in the coming months. 😉

  5. 77 currently and mostly sunny
    66 DP

Laying by the pool and the sun is blazing hot. Went to Sea World yesterday and we had a blast.

    1. My Daughter loves Sea World more than any of the other parks.

Today was supposed to be cloudy here. Not a cloud in the sky….

      1. I just heard that the 2 suspects they wanted to talk to have moved to the bottom of the list and there r more people to identify

  6. What a nice day it is today and yesterday. highs in the 60s to low 70s both days we even had english class out in the court yard. yesterday. Game of kick ball today was awsome and played some football yesterday .. I guess now i actually have to do homework for tomorrow ecology class.

      1. Way back in the early 1980s, when TWC was really good, they did a contest between themselves to see who could guess best when one of the guy’s pool temps reached a certain temp (70 I think it was). It was funny to follow it daily. 🙂

    1. Is it your daughter who works right in the copley/pru area? If so has she been able to get to work?

  7. Pittsburgh at 86F, Washington DC at 77F, but we’ve been around 60F all day with a few downpours.

Warm front passing thru as some blue sky is appearing with the sun occasionally shining through.

I guess Pennsylvania has its own topography issues with how warm air spreads in….

  8. TK. I see an unsettled weather pattern setting shop next week. Yesterday, models were suggesting a coastal low could provide us with heavy rain Tues-Wed time period but those models have backed off some. I’m going to be reseeding my lawn early next week. Are you leaning toward heavy rain next week or just occasional, showery weather in your opinion this far out? Thanks.

    1. Leaning more in the lighter, drawn-out, unsettled period, rather than a concentrated area of heavier rain.

      1. How many days of rain would you guess? Sounds like perfect rain for overseeding grass 😀

        1. I favor the GFS’s timing, late Monday through Wednesday.

If I’m wrong and the Euro is right, it’s Tuesday-Friday at least.

    2. I’m not TK obviously but my bet is more showery rains. I believe it depends on a developing ocean storm. Of course we all know what that is like during the winter months. 😉

We will probably get much more rain overall Friday night than all of next week…but let’s see what TK says.

  9. Looking west, its still bright as I write at 8:10pm, being further west in the eastern time zone. The sky has cleared, save for a few lonely low clouds flying by from south to north.

The temp has risen to 64F, with a dewpoint of 58F.

The sky is a light pink on the western horizon as we can see the steam rising from the two active cooling towers from 3 mile Island Nuclear Power plant, the one that some may remember having had an accident in the late 70s. It is not more than 5 miles from the KOA we are staying at. I find the towers, in some way, beautiful looking and I am a proponent of both nuclear generated power and wind farm power, so, I dont mind being close to it, but I do remember the accident being on the news in the late 70s.

    1. I think we stayed at the same koa the time we rented an RV and went to SC and then Disney. I think our family crossed paths with yours many times …… Just years apart :). And I was pretending I was enjoying your view as you described it so nicely

Maybe we can talk about nuclear power at some point and ill give you the viewpoint of the nuclear plant from a person who works in the industry on the testing side 😀

      1. Sounds good ……

Really, the next time your on the south shore for a while, we’ll all have to pick an ice cream stand to meet at and say hello. I’ll bring some camper brochures. 🙂 🙂

And we can let John, Coastal, Sue and Keith know as well.

  10. Vicki, thanks for asking about daughter. She is able to go to work at Pru, but they are checking backpacks, etc.

    1. I’m,glad for her peace of mind and of course safety they are checking. Your peace of mind also !!

  11. Daughter just got a call from hospital. She has to be there at 6:30 am to be induced. It’ll be an exciting day 😀

  12. Amazing stuff today. Let’s watch social media and the internet showcase its stuff. This day will be remembered for this and establish a new process for law enforcement IMHO.

How about the footage – just creepy and sad and all emotions. I wanted to reach into the TV and grab them by the throat.

    1. I do believe someone who recognizes them will do the right thing and identify them, so that the process of finding them and finding out what involvement they had in this can be determined.

I was saying to my wife earlier today, that, by being away, I feel like we have missed some of the emotional attachment to this whole incident. We’ve been following it and I’ve been on ch 4, 5 and 7’s websites daily, but …there’s just a difference in taking it all in and processing it from a distance vs. being fairly close to it.

      1. I’m not sure being here most have processed it. I’m still half thinking it really didnt happen.

        1. The footage is so real-time, so powerful. I love technology for this. Strips away all of the B.S. theory and parsing of words. These guys were on a mission to destroy life – period. The ACLU can kiss my ass today.

      1. Yes it was. I cried through most of it but the most touching was by one of the speakers who’d just been naturalized and told what had comforted him as a child when he’s witnessed a car bombing. I don’t know his faith but I think he relates to whoever listens

  13. On a weather note, I cant believe how long the cold has held on in the central part of the US. Looks like portions of Minnesota received some accumulating snow today. Wow. Though not as important, the folks out there must be wondering where spring is…..

    1. I was thinking the same thing. Winter just hanging tough. And what, they’re maybe around 150 days or maybe even less before they get the first frost.

  14. Im not sure if anybody is seeing clear pictures of these scumbags. The ones I am seeing seem blurry. Either way I see an arrest in the very near future.

  15. Ok, one more comment for me anyway….

I am not an Obama fan but that was one heck of a speech. Best I’ve heard from a president in a very long time. First time I think he meant what he said from beginning to end IMHO.

  16. Bc he is smart and knows when to put out his emotions.

Btw whether you agree or not (retrac) the culprits should get a fair trial bc that’s what we are about so the ACLU does matter to ensure everyone is treated equally.

    1. yup – agreed Hadi. Without branching off into more political debate, I’ll just say that my problem with the ALCU of late (past 20 years) is their inconsistency and hypocrisy. I’ll just leave it at that.

    2. B.T.W. should we get some chatter going about a next beer summit? Maybe in another few weeks or so after we all catch up with yard work, whatever else?

    3. Hadi I’m a HUGE fan of John Adams who of course defended the British after the Boston massacre. He later said it was the thing he was most proud of. I absolutely agree with a fair trial for all

  17. Speaking of Minnesota, at some point the pattern will change and warm up eventually which means the Red River will probably flood yet again like it does every spring.

Just wondering…is there any year that the Red River DOESN’T flood??

  18. The FBI should show nationwide PSA’s on TV like they did for Whitey Bulger and his girlfriend. These punks may have long since left the state.

  19. You want a gradual melt down of the snow pack and I don’t see that happening for that area. I love snow but when the calendar says April I am ready for spring and I think a lot of people in that area feel the same way.

  20. great weather day and after a great day of bio class outside today and then a game of kickball. go figure my ankle is acting up along with my lower leg for some reason no clue why. :/ and go figure its gonna become cruddy for the next few days. we might pull out a dry day tomorrow but tomorow night and saturday looks cruddy.

    1. They do. I wonder if that’s why I keep thinking he looks familiar…not like someone I know but someone I’ve seen somewhere recently. Interresting catch TK

  21. Please anyone who goes to Watertown or in the newton, Brighton Alston, Belmont, Arlington area any area around Waltham to stay inside your house. Watertown is closed. All MBTA service stopped

    1. Agreed. Although I’d rather see him dead than have him take another life They are about 1/4 mile from my husbands office. There are tons of places to hide around there.

        1. Fortunately he took today off to help take care of our grandson. He would have gotten to Watertown about 6:00 and been turned back but I’m glad he didnt get near the area. Hosp has postponed daughter being induced because of this too which is fine with us. Police don’t need extra people out and about

  22. Boston now added to the list of cities on lockdown. Have to find my children who all live/work there. Left them all text messages.

    1. Please let us know, Longshot. My Son has to go to work and will drive Brighton to Boston – he is same size and build as this guy so I’m a wreck.

  23. Stay safe everyone. We have been glued to CNN here in Jamaica since 6am. I got an emergency call from work about it and turned on the TV and am amazed and what we have heard and seen.

Vicki, glad to hear they are waiting with your daughter and that Mac is home safe. Longshot, hope your kids are in safe places.

      1. I don’t think they have him cornered. They have to take every threat seriously that they keep getting sidetracked and have to go in full force every time they see any little thing. Not taking any chances obviously, but its hard to get him if false alarms keep happening.

          1. I just hope he doesn’t have a hostage in that house. They moved the news away and had them turn off cameras and mikes very fast

  24. I am watching ABC News Special Report and Richard Clarke just commented that an FBI hostage negotiator maybe trying to talk to him him down from doing anything to himself or anyone else. In some cases they will try to get a family member to try to talk to him.

    1. I’m very happy to hear you located your kids. Son was about to leave and they called to tell him the courts were closed. His particular job has to do with coordinating with courts which is why he would have had to go. I was so grateful. Thanks for asking!

    1. It is. We were going to the re-enactment at the wayside inn Sudbury but didnt think it was a good idea. I’m not even sure they had it

    1. Light rain here too. Are people on the street in newton or are they doing as asked and staying put?

  25. Steady rain just set in ….. Looks like a few hours of steady rain settling in. Temp reached 70F, with low 60s dewpoints and a strong S wind.

    1. Very familiar with the area. Husband drives 30 to 16 to work every day. Amazing what is happening in our own backyard

      1. Have you tried The Local. I have a voucher and we thought we’d try it this weekend. Maybe not…..next weekend.

      1. They said sox will play if possible. How long can this go on and how can they lift the warnings ?? Incredibly tough decision

  26. Cold front !! Heavy squall, with gusts to 40mph. Canopy made it through, though I should have rolled it up before the squall came through. Quick 15F temp drop, with light-moderate showers now falling.

          1. I google mapped the area and found a boat trailer on the pic right before the news showed the same thing.

            1. I’ve said all day it was the most logical place for him to be in that area. I think police have done an exceptional job but that area and especially the boat should have been searched. When they lifted the ban I told mac he wasn’t going to work until thing #2 was found. I know that area well

                1. Hahaha. We’ve been calling them thing 1 and thing 2 but maybe that’s not fair to the cat in the hat

      1. No, it’s worth a darn Vicki. Maybe we can take out those who trained them and save some future lives.

        1. No I mean my opinion that no one trained them but they were on their own isn’t worth a darn. Chechnya is not anti US as I understand. They know we do not support Russia. Just my thoughts.

  27. Craziness ! A few of our neighborhood friends are updating us via facebook, as we are on slow wifi connection at the KOA.

Rain winding down, probably .5 to .75, a majority of which was post frontal passage.

Because I was on radar some an hour or two ago and just checked again, there’s a long lived rotating cell that went thru northeast PA and is now in NY State that has a had a tormado warning on it for a while now.

  28. Can do without a tornado obviously but I wouldn’t mind a good early season thunderstorm tonight.

  29. Retract rouge folks, the devices were simple compared to what certain organizations train their operatives to use. Plenty of info on web to learn to how to do this stuff unfortunately.

    1. Well, I’m going to assume the worst in the meantime out of prudence. In the meantime, hope you enjoyed your trip. Something I’m in need of big time.

Brought my plants outdoors last week. Looks like we might get a couple of cold nights coming up. Should be ok since there on the south side on a brick patio that traps heat. I’d move them back in but they’re big.

    1. Been trying to say that such cycles are found in history long before we were burning fuel.

The Earth is several billion years old. Much of what we were being told was based on around a century’s (or less) worth of data. Ok then…

  30. With sadness I report that the MIT officer who lost his life was the nephew of a good friend of mine. She is devastated, as are all their family members, but very strong and will heal and move forward. He may have been doing what he loved, but it should not have ended like that.

    ……………

Updating blog now and new forecast will be posted shortly.

    1. TK please extend the sympathy of my entire family. Please also tell your friend that tears were shed and hearts were broken everywhere. He is a hero and has a very special place in heaven.

        1. My SIL who is a NASCAR fan said his brother is a machinist for Hendricks motor. 5, 24, 48, 88 Hendricks cars are all carrying the Boston strong logo in his honor this weekend.

          1. I love that. That team is a good NASCAR team. I often root for their drivers. I don’t watch many races but usually keep track of who is winning week to week. My son and I always watch the Daytona 500 together.

    2. TK sorry to hear that news. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected by what took place this week.

  31. ahh going to be a great night with freinds i have not seen since last fall. thank god! and a perfect night for manhunt. 😀
