Quiet Spring Stretch

3:41AM

Not a whole lot of action in the days ahead. No big storms, no big warm-ups, no real late-season cold, just a bit of a chill at times. High pressure centered to the north hangs on into Monday then low pressure rides up parallel to the East Coast later Monday and Tuesday, keeping most of its influence offshore. A cold front swings through from the west late Wednesday and Thursday and high pressure builds in behind that late in the week. The corresponding changes will be reflected in the forecast that follows this paragraph.

Updated forecast for southeastern New England…

TODAY: Sunny. Highs in the 50s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 25-30 inland, 30-35 coast. Wind NE under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Increasing clouds. Highs around 50. Wind E 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Cloudy. Chance of light snow or rain early. Low 32. High 47.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Low 40. High 60.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Low 45. High 62.

  1. Thanks TK. Saw some snowflakes when landing yesterday in Toronto. There was a lot of turbulence and the cloud deck for most of the flight was just underneath us at 37000 feet from Jamaica most of the way. Not sure how accurate the monitor we were watching on the plane was, but at one point it showed a -40C reading outside the plane at the altitude we were at at that point I saw that reading.

Now for the trek back today. Have to pick up our dog by 4pm this afternoon. Looks like you have a perfect sunny ride in store for us. Anything is better than that sleetstorm and freezing rain storm on the way up on the 12th!

  2. Thanks TK !

Great traveling weather North ………. welcome back Hadi …. your Florida trip looked like it was a lot of fun …..

Beautiful weather morning with all of the sunshine.

  3. Started my part time job tending a golf driving range every sunday 3 weeks ago and every sunday since then has been cooler than normal with a chilly wind. Has really kept the golfers away unfortunately.

  4. I understand 93n is lined with cars as officer collier is taken to Wilmington. Godspeed officer.

      1. TK – thank you – my son just corrected me as well. He and many from his department were among those lining the roads and he said it was impossible not to feel the emotion. I don’t know if you can get the address of Officer Collier’s family to me via email or even if it would be appropriate. I’d love to extend my condolences personally and thank them for all their son stands for. If you think it would make it more difficult for his family, I sure do understand.

    1. Glad you are having a good trip. It’s always bittersweet to have a vacation end – sorry to leave but happy to be home!

  5. Good morning all,

Sorry I have been away from the blog for so long.
I can’t even begin to say how busy I have been.

Son’s birthday, wife’s birthday, taxes, had to let some one go at work (that was brutal and now 2 of us are doing the work of 3) , and a HUGE ongoing project at work with barely time to hit the rest room.

I have not read all of the past posts, however, I did read a bunch from 4/16.
I was saddened to see this blog get political, especially after such horrific events.

I sincerely hope that no one here was affected by the bombings nor had friends or relatives affected. I am still trying to process it all. Never have I ever witnessed anything close to this around here. And a a lock down of 1 million citizens? Unprecedented!

My office arranges and monitors services for the elderly. I had to go into the office
during the lock down and generate a spreadsheet of clients and upload to our phone call service and record a message and have it broadcast to all clients letting them know there would be no services along with an emergency number to call if necessary.

    What a week.

Hopefully we shall heal and move on.

    Best to all.

    1. Hi Old Salty – thank you so much for checking in. I’m glad all is ok and hope your life will slow down soon. It must have been very unsettling to have to go to work on Friday. Take care of yourself. I think everyone will agree that WE ALL miss you !!

    2. I second that OS. Good to hear from you and glad you are safe 🙂 Even though we do get political here sometimes, its always done respectfully.

  6. Just hit noon and still a chilly 47 degrees. Pretty impressive airmass considering there’s not a cloud in the sky.

  7. Beautiful day today, irrigation is on and did a test run across the 12 zones, cookout today 🙂

      1. You, Taunton, Norwood, Providence, and Westerly are the only MA/RI places to have hit 50 so far today.

40s everywhere else. Cold April day. A repeat tomorrow. Colder still on Tuesday!

    1. Mine is just about all green now, except where the neighborhood skunk has been digging up the grubs. 😉

Not quite ready to mow. Maybe one more week.

  8. Are u in the pool today Charlie? There must be steam coming off the top with the outside temps today 😉

  9. Nice to hear from you O.S.!

Good thing the sun is so high. This would be a very cold day not long ago.

  10. There was an outside interfaith service at the intersection of Boylston and Berkeley Streets earlier this afternoon. I get the feeling it was impromptu. It was very moving from what I can tell. I believe the barriers are slowly coming down and the Copley Sq. exit on the Mass. Pike is now open or will open shortly. If I understand correctly, the crime scene area will get back to “normal” within 12 hours or so.

Also, I wish the media would remove that smiling photo of that older brother…it absolutely sickens me every time I look at it. Since he had been in trouble with the law not long ago, surely there must be a mug shot of him somewhere that can be posted on screen instead.

Smiling 🙂 photos should IMHO be for the victims only.

  11. I had to laugh.

My neighbor’s lawn is brown, or more accurately, yellow. It’s dead. I have no idea what he did to it, but it’s dead….except for about 12 patches of green weeds scattered around it.

He just got out the mower … to mow his scattered weeds.

    I just had to laugh.

    🙂

  12. There will be a moment of silence (60 seconds) on all Boston radio stations at 2:50 pm tomorrow (Monday)!

It may even be nationwide, but not sure about that.

  13. Judson Hale, Sr., one time editor-in-chief of both Yankee Magazine and The Old Farmer’s Almanac, is going to do a talk in Reading MA at Longwood Place Senior Living at 3PM Monday. I’ll be there. Perhaps I’ll have him sign my 2013 almanac. 😉

  14. I’ve mowed twice and some customers south of me have mowed 3 times, a lot of my lawns west of Boston landscapers have done there 1st mowings just this past week but pool temp is a balmy 57 degrees and kids were in the pool Friday when it was in the 70’s, usually we use the pool 3 or 4 times in April and by mid May it can be everyday so anyways enjoying this nice day, I love cookouts 🙂

    1. No mowing out this far but may have some lawns a week or so away which is pretty much in line with every year

    2. my parents open up the pool usually around the first week of may , put the chemicals in, then put the solar cover over it . and take it off once a week to let the clorine air from under neith it leave and then put it back on. no one usually goes in until the week before memorial day when the pool gets up into the 60s but . we put out the patio furniture the weekend before. usually as well. can not wait for beach and pool weather

    1. It appears you are the warm spot in MA today by 2 degrees over your nearest competitor. 🙂

  15. Very emotional tribute just now by the bruins. Just when I think I am clean out of tears. They have done so much. My SIL said they took first responders out and were upset when the media got wind of it and publicized it.

    1. I had to leave to shop right after the game so I could pick my son up from his friend’s by 4PM, but I taped the ceremony and will watch it this evening. 🙂

  16. Hopefully this will be a better week. It was tough last week in the country with the bombings in Boston and the fertlizer plant explosion in West, TX which resulted in fatalities.

    1. Yes, thanks for mentioning the Texas tragedy. My aunt lives in Hillsboro, about 10 miles north of the plant. She said she could feel the tremor of the explosion and saw the smoke cloud from her house.

  18. Perhaps the midwest has a shot at warming up towards the end of the week. I dont think places like Minnesota, the Dakotas, eastern Montana may not have seen or come close to 50F during all of April.

Of course, if it goes suddenly to 70F in the Dakotas, those living near the Red River will face their annual flooding battle rather quickly.

    1. Welcome home Tom.

I know its not a weather question ans thanks for bearing with me. Do you know if they will address the events of the past week in your school. My grandsons school is having a discussion in every grade. He’s in kindergarten and his parents have asked him to be excused but that doesn’t mean kids won’t talk about it. I don’t understand why they do this so wanted to know if you see something we don’t

      1. Hi Vicki.

Thanks …. Bearing in mind that I work in a middle school, grades 6-8, we are having a moment of silence during announcements and then for anyone left in the building at 2:50 pm, we will observe a moment of silence.

As for individual classrooms, I dont know, but I have 14 school days to get through 2 more chapters and try to review the whole year, so it will be all math from me. 🙂

  19. Welcome home Tom. How was the ride home?

Nice to see you here OS!

Arrived home at 3 and picked up the dog. 8 1/2 hous from Toronto with stops! I may have gone over 65 for a minute or two…..

Vicki, did they reschedule the induction?

    1. Hi north. So glad you are home safely too. To me the week seems more like a year but on vacation it goes far too quickly. You are very kind to ask about daughter. Right now it is scheduled for Tuesday.

    2. Thanks North. It was good, very nice weather like you had for traveling. Just feeling chilly, as we had a week of 60s and 70s. You must be frozen after a stay in the Carribean.

      1. We arrived in short sleeves yesterday and shorts to 36 and snow flurries in Toronto. Luckily jackets were in the car. Can’t wait for it to finally get warm here and stay!

  20. Its still 49.7 here. Cool at Hilton head for the tournament. Ocean looks really rough. Wonder if mark is home and hope cool SC weather waited

  21. 50.1 degrees watching sunset, I’ll let ya know if all my flowers and plants die from the freeze warning, put your bets in, I say no 🙂
