*** ALERT ** FIRST LOOK AT MEMORIAL DAY LONG WEEKEND
    MAY 24 -25 -26 -27

FRIDAY MAY 24– Major league cold front comes all of the East coast friday afternoon evening. Strong/ severe storms POSSIBLE.. MAJOR LEAGUE TRAVEL delays LIKELY in the afternoon / evening especially at all the East coast airports.

    1. I am shaking my head. EVERY single time my sister in law tries to come here we have major weather. She was to head here as Sandy was approaching and then on the Feb 9 weekend. And now she is scheduled to visit for memorial day.

I’m beginning to think she and mother nature have some sort of connection???

    2. Because we camp on Memorial Day Weekend every year, I have been watching the EURO very closely the last 3 to 4 days, specifically in the day 8 to 10 time period, to try to get some trends into the days leading up to and now into the Memorial Day Weekend.

A few days ago, the initial thought was very, very blocky with New England situated on the eastern side of a closed low, with what looked like warm, humid weather with off and on showers.

Then a day or two ago, it was a little less blocky and a big Canadian Hudson Bay high was going to build in with a cool, dry airmass suppressing unsettled weather to the south.

Then, this morning, somewhat as described above, with a front coming through on Friday, then stalling to our south potentially, with a wave of low pressure coming close early in the weekend.

So……its been changing, as should be expected, from day to day, and I’m glad we are a week away, because I havent particularly cared for most of the early scenarios depicted so far.

      1. A few days ago I mentioned that the Euro would have some issues in the next several days to weeks. Take each run lightly. πŸ™‚

    1. Hadi, as far as I know, it has snowed during every single calendar month
on Mt. Washington, so I don’t think there is any latest/earliest snow event
      up there???

    1. They are actually fairly common in northern New England and southeastern Canada – just tend to be a bit weaker than this one was.

  2. Tom – I’m reposting this from the previous blog – it kind of got lost in the mix up on that blog so I wasn’t sure you’d seen it

Tom, my daughter wondered if you had gone to this meeting.

The beach at Nantasket is gone at high tide. A friend said one of the beaches at Kennebunk (not port) is gone at high tide. I know there has been significant change at Humarock in general (even without storms) in the past few years.

    1. Beach erosion, not a rise in sea level. Also many beaches add sand on a yearly or bi-yearly basis, and some haven’t been able to due to budget issues.

      1. TK the sea is rising and ill have to disagree on erosion. The sand at Humarock alone is many many feet above where it was when I was young and even in my children’s lifetime. There are break walls and huge boulders that are totally buried. Yet high tide was never to the point where it is now. Same at nantasket.

        1. I should have said I agree that the beaches are eroding but because the level is rising. πŸ™‚

    2. Thanks Vicki.

I hadnt gone to the meeting, but the town planner interviewed in the story is my neighbor.

From whatever is causing it, I can also say that Nauset Beach on the Cape Cod National Seashore is a much, much smaller beach at high tide after the last 6 months of storms. At the perigean high tide, the high tide line is nearly to the dune, whereas last summer, there was a decent beach even at high tide.

  3. What are the chances that next weekend will be nice? There are so many Memorial Day Parades and such planned it would be a shame if they were washed out.

  4. Thanks TK! These allergies are driving me crazy! Time for some rain to get the pollen out of the air for a few hours!

  5. Today’s Accuweather Trivia Quiz.

I will start by saying that BZ and others made a mess out of today’s quiz! They could not have possibly got things more wrong than they did, sooooo……… I am rephrasing the question.

Which of the following, if any, is not classic (textbook) stage of a tornado?
    A. Dust stage
    B. Organization stage
    C. Mature stage
    D. Shrink stage
    E. Rope stage

(I should mention that regardless of how many stages there are, not all tornadoes go through all stages. The question is really more a of a textbook question.)
    No cheating. Answer later today.

      1. Wait. I reread the question and you said if any. Does that mean it could be none of the above? If so, ill chose F. If not ill stay with E. if you think I’m bad at your quizzes you should see me at jeopardy. I’m cutthroat. πŸ˜€

        1. Vicki speaking of Jeopardy who did win the college championship. The scores were close going into the final I only saw part of it since we had breaking
news coverage with the train derailment and collison on the Fairfield Bridgeport line.

          1. The young man from Georgetown. It was a great group of kids.

            The train accident was horrific.

  6. Today’s 2nd AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

How many tornadoes are formed in the US in an average year?
    A. 500
    B. 800
    C. 1500
    D. 2000

This year, by the way, we are below the average. Answer later today.

  7. For the first trivia question I will go with D. The second I will go with C.
Next week is what I like to call a Florida forecast with the showers and thunderstorm threat. Its not an all day washout and not every town sees one but the threat is there.

  8. so nice out this morning. the rest of the week looks a little unsettled but in the 70s so not to bad and it looks like its going to be like a summer time showers and storms. not total washouts. the more sun the larger the chance of showers and storms expecially monday and tuesday
