The Week Ahead

Remembering all those who served this great country…

1:14PM

Part 1: The remainder of the Memorial Day Weekend

Unseasonably chilly air continues to flow across southern New England on the back side of a departing low pressure area. This low caused a rare significant late season snowstorm in the mountains, with double-digit snowfall in some locations. For the remainder of Sunday, we hold onto the chilly and breezy air but at least the air is drying out and there will be some intervals of sun through many lingering clouds. The sky clears out tonight but an unseasonable chill continues and lingers into the morning of Memorial Day Monday. The remainder of the day will feature sunshine but there may be some passing clouds due to lingering cold air aloft. However, the surface temperature will be much milder – nearing or reaching 70 in many areas.

Part 2: Midweek transition.

High pressure ridging builds over the Northeast Tuesday-Wednesday but a surface disturbance and associated warm front has to come through the region during Wednesday. Lots of sun Tuesday will give way to lots of clouds and a shower/thunderstorm threat Wednesday.

Part 3: Late week heat-up.

High pressure continues to build and peaks over the region for the final 2 days of May into the first weekend of June (Thursday-Saturday), though by Sunday this ridge should weaken enough to allow a front from the north to press into the region. We will feel the first “summer” heat during this period of time, with mainly dry weather through Saturday giving way to a shower and thunderstorm threat Sunday.

Updated forecast for southeastern New England (southern NH, eastern MA, and RI)…

SUNDAY AFTERNOON: Lots of clouds, intervals of sun. Highs in the 50s. Wind NW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.

  1. Thanks TK. Glad to finally see peeks of sun this afternoon. It isn’t that chilly when the sun is shining!

  2. Thanks TK 😀
I love how it can go from almost snow temperature to being in the 60’s the next day, tomorrow!
The full moon was so beautiful last night! Loved how it peaked through the cloudy night 🙂

    1. It will look the same tonight, just about an hour later. 🙂

And after the 60s-70 tomorrow, we inch up into midweek, then shoot up into Summertime levels late in the week! Get ready!

  3. Thanks TK.
It has a fall feel out there today. I am hoping its not too warm Saturday for my mom and all the other breast cancer survivor’s at the relay for life.

  4. Answer to today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

Which storm does NOT belong with the others?
    A. Hurricane
    B. Tornado
    C. Cyclone
    D. Typhoon

The correct answer is B, tornado.

  5. I saw some talk about Torey Krug on the previous blog. Torey was in the AHL (Providence) and gained the attention of the Bruins coaching staff because of quickness and shooting ability. He is small so they worked with him to put on muscle and mass.

Right now the young guns — Bartowski, Hamilton and Krug are giving the Bruins what they need — a shot in the arm. They lack experience but they compensate with self confidence, enthusiasm & true HUNGER. I’ll admit getting past the Penguins is a tall order. With the newbies, there is a chance.

Interestingly, for the older folks on this blog, Krug is already being compared to non other than Bobby Orr.

    1. Unfortunately I couldn’t name 5 ex or present bruins but got probably name every player on the Patriots 53 man roster, Pats4Life 🙂

    2. Let’s pump the brakes a little….

I don’t know who is making a comparison between Tory Krug and Bobby Orr???

But whoever it is, is not thinking clearly. C’mon. When this kid has played out his career, if warranted, then we can make comparisons. He’s only played 5 games.

I watched Bobbby Orr since his first game, and I can tell you that so far, as
good as this kid is, he ain’t no Bobby Orr.

      Sorry, just my opinion. 😀

      1. My first thought was tebow was immediately compared to Brady and we see where that went. I agree OS

  6. Assuming the sky is clear for the next couple of nights we should be able to simultaneously see Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter.

  7. It appears that we will be having our first heat wave of the year come Thursday through next Sunday…UGH!!!

I can assure you that I will be complaining when the HHH arrives. 😀

  8. It looking like a summer pattern setting up shop here late week into the weekend. This is the time of year I start looking at those overnight lows. When there in the 50s to low 60s that is a dry airmass and leads to a comfortable day. When the lows are in the mid 60s and higher that leads to a humid or even very humid to oppressive day.

  9. Hmmmm. Snowed and accululated in new Ipswich NH last night. Don’t know about anyone here but it IS considered to be part of the WHDH weather area. I’d say our potential was a probable. 🙂

        1. Lol I’m sure someone’s gonna say “I saw it snow on such and such a day and that’s fine but what I’m saying is I haven’t seen a flake of snow in over 2 months 🙂

        2. Ahhh but it isn’t just about one town. I have not even seen an inch of rain but no one can say it didnt rain a good amount in other areas…..or didnt you get rain either 🙂

          1. Careful Charlie…next time you say it rained and it hasn’t rained in framingham I’m going to say uh-uh…..I haven’t seen rain so no rain anywhere

      1. I think we r like 0 for 7 since late march on this potential thing, all is good though 🙂

        1. I called for potential snow OUTSIDE my forecast area.

It snowed outside my forecast area – quite a lot in some areas.

          That’s not 0 for 7. 🙂

          1. Listen, we have been talking about potential snows for what seems like everyday of every year of every month since forever, it’s really a non issue but just a lot of potential talk and nothing ever happens, we even have an inside joke between us on the over use of the word potential, like we say there’s a potential I get hit by a fung wah bus today but I betcha I don’t lol hope all is well 🙂

          2. Yes you did and honestly mpNew Ipswich is not outside your forecast area. My friend there is an original whdh weather spotter. It isn’t the forecast that is difficult to understand, its the concept/definition of potential.

Did they get the fireworks in or was it too windy?

      1. Huh? Defense Defense Defense Defense wins Championships, always has always will, wasn’t a big moss fan, my fav patriot is wilfork 🙂

      2. Absolutely agree longshot. Been saying the same for a while. Charlie can’t win if you don’t get the ball over the line

  10. dam never knew i would have skied memorial day weekend. and now going to the beach on thursday lol :D, went ti killingtion they opened a bunch of trails on the top lol

  11. In this league sure defense is great but you need offense as well. Tom terrific can’t do it all on his own. A healthy gronk would go a long way.

Skins had a great defense for years about awful offense and they were in the cellar for years. 1 year you add RGIII and Morris and you are winning your division and a shot at the Super Bowl.

    1. the reason why the skins dont win is bc of stupid snyder, We’ve had shots at the Super Bowl almost every year for a decade and a half plus without Ty law and Seymour we wouldn’t have won superbowls just saying,

  12. Happy Memorial Day everyone! Thank you to all who have served and and are currently serving our country.
Weather is going to be great today but summer like weather for late week and the weekend. With the transition from the comfortable levels of humidity to the sticky air keeping an eye on a warm frontal passage for Wednesday that could trigger showers and non severe storms. Thunderstorm Index at a 1.

  13. Been an assistant coach for 16 yrs and my father has been a pop Warner coach and is 1 of the management leaders in the hockomock coaching staff and we teach defense wins championships, I’m very confident in that so we don’t need to go back in forth, and please if you don’t really understand football and all the schemes or what each and every position is suppose to do on each individual play please don’t comment, got a football game today 🙂

    1. To toot our horn we’ve been to Cali twice and fl 2 times for east coast champions, we ended up 2-2, my father is 178-23, and at 1 time he was 92-2 over 11 yrs, we can talk any football level nfl pop Warner even college 🙂

        1. Then you know we have been grooming the new defense. This will be third season and they will be fine. Time for a wide receiver. I still agree with longshot

    2. Agree with you about defense winning games but …..once again….end the conversation with an ending that basically tells people “that’s the way it is”…way to go Charlie…

    1. Hahaha. It is a glorious day. Yesterday I thought it would be weeks until we take the windows off the porch. Is thinking we may remove them today. As they say…if you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute.

    2. Yahoo !! Damp and cool camping, especially Saturday. Had a good time, made the best of it. Bring on the heat, I hope it hits 100F ! 🙂

      1. We were all thinking of you here. It was awfully damp and raw. Glad you had a good time regardless.

        1. Thanks Vicki …. It is beautiful today ! Amazing how it can go from 40s and damp to bright sun and 70F so quickly.

  14. Updating now…

Winter is over, by the way. 😉

And I like Barry’s forecast but he may be a bit too high for temps IMO, due to the topsoils being a little more damp due to recent rain. If they dry out enough with sun from today and again tomorrow, then it may be a different story.

  15. There is a lot of variance in forecasted temperature for this coming weekend. While some mets have indicated mid 80’s and perhaps upper 80’s, I have also seen mid 90’s for Fri and Sat.
