Quick Forecast Update

7:17PM

No major changes to the discussion. Front gets through tonight/Wednesday but still close enough to kick off a few showers/storms Wednesday, then hangs about just offshore with a shower threat for eastern areas for at least part of Friday. Feeling optimistic about early weekend with a sliver of high pressure in control. New front approaches from the west and returns unsettled weather to the region Sunday. EarlyΒ  next week some uncertainty but for now will play it optimistically.

  1. Thanks TK! I really enjoyed the off and on showers today. Rain is such a great sound to wake up to. πŸ˜€

  2. Thank you TK. Spectacular full rainbow over the ocean this evening. And a beautiful sunset to boot

    1. Sue what is the pine hill section of Plymouth. It’s where the dentist is I saw today. Interesting area. Mac played waverly oaks Sunday so he knew how to get there

      1. The Pine Hills is a beautiful area with newer homes and their own little village. The golf course there is also quite nice and they have two courses. A friend of mine just built a house down there and she is loving it.

    1. It’s one if his favorite courses as well and he had a great time and a good round. Thank you

  3. TV newsreporter/anchor Susan Wornick is leaving Ch. 5 in March 2014. She has been with the station for 33 years and anchoring the noon news for 20+ years.

After covering the Haiti earthquake, she decided she had had enough.

Best of luck in advance! πŸ™‚

        1. Pattern does support this coming on Friday. Canadian highs have not been as strong as advertised, especially in SNE, so it definitely leaves the door open for this to come closer Fri.

  4. Conflict on Tomorrow’s weather.

Some say front clears late tonight and tomorrow is a nice dry day.
Others say front comes mid-day to mid afternoon with attendant showers and
Thunderstorms, meaning another life-sucking Humid day!!

    Look at the radar loop.

    http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/index_loop.php

Look at that complex in NY state. What shape will that be in when it gets here?
    We could get CLOCKED tomorrow.

My Guess: Mid-day passage with some boomers. We shall see.

  5. Hmmm. Did someone kidnap the front. 72 with a. 72 DP. No wind

There was a spectacular layer of haze settled over the river at 5:30. Fun to see. Still a light haze

  6. Thanks, TK. I am glad your mother is feeling better.

Still sticky this morning. But I opened the windows anyway. If it doesn’t dry out within a few hrs. I will have to put the AC back on again. I just like the fresh air coming in.

Very interesting storms yesterday – one thing in particular were the picturesque clouds.

  7. Thanks tk πŸ™‚ on a side note, I just saw the rating for the all star game and it was the 2nd lowest in baseball history with a 6.8, in the 70’s it was getting a 24.0, and the redsox Yankee series had 1 of the lowest since the late 90’s with a 9.7, normal is around 15.0, a big concern on local ratings and esp national ratings blame it on the length of the game, the yankee fans want BIG names not prospect names, should be a decent day πŸ™‚

    1. I agree Charlie that baseball is in big trouble. Its not affecting the owners or players wallets yet cuz of the huge guaranteed tv deals currently in place. But its the tv networks losing money if the viewership and ratings are way down. Until those contracts are up with the networks, nothing will change with the game.

      1. The problem is, young folks are playing soccer and NOT baseball!!
Of course interest in baseball is going to fade with this crap going on. Everywhere I drive I see little kids playing soccer! For every field I drive by with baseball being played, they’d be 10 fields with soccer.

        1. I agree to disagree cause most kids that play soccer it doesn’t transfer when there older adults to watch soccer, most kids eventually transfer as adults to watching football, in a lot of this country it’s football 1st at every age, anyways have a good day os

        2. Its funny u mention that, more kids have been playing soccer than baseball since i was a young kid, but yet for some reason it doesn’t translate to more interest later in life. No offense to soccer as I know there are some huge soccer fans, but if i had my choice of watching baseball or soccer, it would be baseball all day long

          1. No Problem disagreeing. My disdain for soccer
            is coming out is all.

But think about it, If young people are playing soccer, then how are they going to play baseball. To me, playing baseball breeds interest in the sport. IT did for me anyway. I played baseball morning, noon and night. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Just how it worked for me.

And yes, I HATE soccer. Sorry to those who like it.

  8. Front? What front?

    http://weather.unisys.com/

    Dew point, 8AM Boston = 70

    Where’s the bleepin dry air?????

Last night Todd Gutner CLEARLY stated that the front would be sweeping through over night.

The National Weather service in their 10PM technical discussion indicated a mid-day
    frontal passage.

I’m getting to the point that I DON’T LISTEN to the TV weather folks (exceptions
Barry and Harvey) the rest are useless to me. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

    1. I think the front is supposed to stall to the south of us? Like recent fronts? Well, maybe this front will stall before it reaches us! I certainly hope not!

      1. From the NWS:

A COLD FRONT CROSSES SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND TODAY POSSIBLY TRIGGERING AN ISOLATED AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORM ACROSS RI AND EASTERN MA. BEHIND THE FRONT LESS HUMID WEATHER OVERSPREADS THE REGION LATER TODAY INTO TONIGHT

        1. LOL, they’ve been saying this “front” should be coming through since last saturday evening!

  9. Hey, this system for Friday/Saturday is beginning to look real.

The Euro, Nam and to a lesser extent the GFS all have it.
The Nam and Euro has it socking us good with heavy rain.

Additionally the Hurricane Center models, have it clocking us as well.

    We can’t catch a break!

    1. Is this a typical tropical system or something we need to watch to possibly evacuate for a day? I’m thinking its just a system and we may get some awesome waves……..no?

      1. Not special with wind, Just Rain.
I mean there “may” be some wind like 20-30 mph, but not a
        Tropical storm. πŸ˜€

  10. OS,

You got any maps you can post on the potential storm for friday? In and out of the office so can check out at this point.

    Thanks

        1. Actually, I think that area is in the .7 to 1 inch range. πŸ˜€
Looking at the other maps, it appears most of the action
is a bit more N&W of the South Shore area.

Again, this is only a model projection.

          1. Works for me. Would love some waves. They are a bit bigger today with the wind now off the ocean. Other than sat this is warmest day. Did someone say cooling front.

Lovely beach day with just enuf clouds to keep the sun from feeling too hot

  11. Here’s relief and it’s in the Berkshires:

  12. Looks like front is finally through and without convection in the local area, however, far North Shore to HN sea Coast has some.

Dew point = 66 at Boston and 63 at Worcester.

      1. Not bad. Should have happened a long time ago, but kudos to BB (or the other powers that be who made him do it)

  13. I think it rained about 3 inches yesterday here, which had a slight impact on what we did.

One thing to do is to walk out to the caves at low tide. We chose to do that.

It said after 4:20pm was safe to walk out to the caves.

We started around 5pm and sure enough, the tide was way, way out.

Little tidal brook should have been long since dwindled to a toe wetting trickle, that cuts in front of the caves.

It was a swollen, quick flowing stream/small river.

We felt like we were on one of those survivorman shows going up and down the downstream three branches of this to find the easiest places to cross.

It was adventurous, but we did it, each one of us pulling one of our daughter’s along in the knee deep current. The adventure of it was worth it ! The caves were amazing !!

Had we fallen, it was forever out to the low tide, so, it would have been cold, but we weren’t in danger of being swept out to sea.

The sun is back today, thankfully ! Better than yesterday’s 55F (Fundy’s cold !)

    1. Interesting how water temps in the Bay of Fundy are chilly while you head up to Glasgow NS and the Northumberland Strait and they are usually in the low to mid 70s this time of year.

  14. He had no choice but to come out and say what he said. If not the media would continue to harass the team. He at least sounded like he cared.

  15. Well I guess the front must have gone through this area but you couldn’t tell by me…Temps are still in the mid to upper 80s…it’s still stick as all get out and very little if any wind right now.

  16. Some pretty cool temps just a few hundred miles NW of now. Temps in Southern Quebec are in the low to mid 60s with a couple of upper 50s!!!

    1. Maybe Tom can bring those temps home

And Tom what an adventure. We didn’t see the tides when there and I’ve always been sorry about that

  17. So that front……did it go away again. We had a cool and non wet breeze. But that was short lived. No breeze. Feels stickier. On the whole quite comfortable compared to what we had but still not refreshing

    1. at 5pm the dp in Marshfield was 70…here in Norwell (still at work) I just stuck my head and it feels slightly (and just slightly) drier than it did 3 hours ago.
