First More, Second Less

12:29AM

An area of high pressure holds on to provide another spectacular day for the final day of July, though an upper level trough departing to the northeast will still trigger some developing diurnal clouds today.

A cold front approaches Thursday but slowly enough that the day itself should be fine with clouds, showers, and thunderstorms holding off until nighttime. This front looks a little stronger than it did yesterday and therefore it may produce fairly widespread showers and storms, which will linger into Friday as the front slowly clears the coast.

The general pattern repeats again over the weekend, but a second front coming along Sunday looks much weaker and may produce only cloudiness with shower activity absent.

A comfortable air mass is expected to arrive at the beginning of next week, quite nice for August, which can often feature very warm and muggy weather.

Updated forecast for southeastern New England (southern NH, eastern MA, RI)…

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 77-82, cooler South Coast. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Variably cloudy. Additional scattered showers/thunderstorms. Highs 77-82. Wind SW to W 5-15 MPH.

    1. Getting those early hints.

We’ll still have plenty of muggy mornings in August but we’ll also get more Fall preview (next Monday or Tuesday).

    1. Don’t agree. Jose Iglesias is NEVER going to hit in the Major leagues. His start this year was a fluke. I think the Sox got a Steal with this one. 😀

      1. If they do more to improve the roster before the deadline than ill change my tune. If they’re serious about contending this year then they need more to make themselves a WS favorite. If this is the only trade they make, than bad move to trade a GREAT defensive SS with a serviceable bat. SS in the league isnt the power position it once was. With the emphasis on pitching now, a good pitcher is only as good as the defense behind him.

        1. Don’t agree. Their SS will be Xander Bogaerts, equally defensively equipped with a much much superior bat.
Look to see him here very shortly. In fact it was Bogaerts emergence at Triple A that allowed the Sox to make this move. Clearly, the Sox still think that Middlebrooks will be OK and their 3rd baseman of the future.

  1. Thanks TK. Is the weather on Long Island over the weekend and into early next week going to be similar to our weather? Maybe a bit warmer? Hopefully?

  2. Thanks TK. I always think of July as the month of HHH and August the transition month where certainly the potential for HHH exists but it can also hold a preview of fall days to come. Spectacular weather yet again. That’s for sure

    1. Vicki, I agree totally. August is Always the transition to Fall, especially after the
first week or so. This crap about the Dog Days of August is just that.

July is the month. July is our Summer, period. Exceptions abound for sure,
but generally speaking, it is July.

Just thoughts from a crazed weather lunatic. 😀

      1. Just a bumper crop. Means nothing. 😀

Or it “could” mean we’re in for a long COLD Winter OR NOT. 😀

    1. We didn’t. It seems to only be open at night and we have a tendency to eat here as with all of the tiring reading and sitting in the sun we are too lazy to get it together enough to go out for dinner 😀

We did just go to the old salt shed in cohasset and it was nowhere near as good as it used to be 🙁

      1. Oh yes, they are only open for dinner. Tonight is 1/2 price pizza night and their pizza is yummy! I don’t blame you for wanting to stay put at night though.

Sorry to hear your lunch wasn’t so good. I have never been there. At least you are having some beautiful weather!

        1. Thanks Sue. We sure are having great weather. One of these days we will get to oliverias 🙂

    1. I’ve always wanted that.

We could even host winter games. We have venues for indoor events and mountains no further away than some of the other winter hosts cities have had.

  3. I love the trade ACE, Iglesias was never going to be the future due to Boggarts being the go to shortstop. Boggarts is superior bad and very close defensively. Iglesias was expendable with the emergance of Boggarts.

      1. Agree with Hadi. See above.

Middlebrooks WOULD have been fine, but he got injured, then
developed some bad habits at the plate. He’ll be back, guaranteed.

        1. I wish they’d get him back up and see what happens …. For some reason, I think he could be a great help to them down the stretch, if he can improve his plate discipline.

  4. A great summer day once again today. I wish the entire summer season could be like this.
Non severe storms late tomorrow and tomorrow night.
Threat level index for late tomorrow and tomorrow night. The potential for heavy rainfall is my biggest concern with the atmosphere loaded with moisture.
    Flooding: Elevated
    Wind: Low

    1. Hi JJ. If I could chose a day that repeated for the entire summer, this would be it. It’s idyllic.

  5. It seems that the general consensus from the TV mets is for no HHH through mid-August and I am hoping that will hold true for the second half into Labor Day Weekend as well.

    Hey, I can dream can’t I?? 😀

      1. I just read it OS….very interesting! Thanks for sharing and I do hope the heat stays away!!!
