Fair Weather, Friends!

7:41AM

Other than some high cloudiness at times through the weekend and a few other periods of clouds from a weak upper level disturbance early next week, high pressure will be in general control of the weather in southern New England well into next week with plenty of fair weather. The only notable trend will be an upward one in temperature and eventually humidity as well.

Updated forecast for southeastern New England…

TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 75-85, coolest in coastal areas. Wind W up to 10 MPH, except variable to onshore in coastal areas this afternoon.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 55-65, coolest inland valleys, mildest in urban locations. Wind light SW.

SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY: Variable high cloudiness but not preventing plenty of sunshine during the daylight hours, just filtered at times, especially southern MA and RI. Highs 75-85, coolest Cape Cod & Islands. Lows 58-65. Winds variable 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY-TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 58-68. Highs 78-88.

WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 60-70. Highs 81-91.

  1. Good morning and thanks TK.

All interests in the Gulf should pay careful attention to upcoming forecasts.

Canadian has a hurricane/strong tropical storm smashing into Texas:

    http://meteocentre.com/models/explorateur.php?lang=en&map=na&run=00&mod=gemglb&stn=PNMPR&comp=1&run2=00&mod2=gemglb&stn2=PNMPR&hh2=102&fixhh=1&hh=108

NHC, HWRF hurricane model has it hitting Northern Mexico, Just barely South of
    Brownsville, TX as a HURRICANE:

Euro, GFS and the other Hurricane mode, GFDL have absolutely NOTHING.

    Go figure!!

Will check on Erin now. Have a great day all. 😀

  2. re: ERIN

he he he, another one bites the dust. It isn’t going anywhere and destined to go poof
    within several days.

Here are the NHC positions/intensity for the next 120 hours:

    FORECAST POSITIONS AND MAX WINDS

    INIT 16/0900Z 16.3N 30.5W 35 KT 40 MPH
    12H 16/1800Z 17.3N 32.4W 35 KT 40 MPH
    24H 17/0600Z 18.6N 34.7W 40 KT 45 MPH
    36H 17/1800Z 19.6N 36.7W 40 KT 45 MPH
    48H 18/0600Z 20.3N 38.7W 40 KT 45 MPH
    72H 19/0600Z 21.0N 43.0W 40 KT 45 MPH
    96H 20/0600Z 22.5N 47.5W 35 KT 40 MPH
    120H 21/0600Z 24.5N 51.0W 30 KT 35 MPH

Btw, ALL of the models show NOTHING for the next 10 days.

The GFS shows something emerging from the coast of Africa about day
15 or 16. But we’ve seen that before.

Still PLENTY of time for the Tropics to become active, but the more time passes,
the better it is for us 😀

  3. Thanks TK.
Erin appears to be no threat to U.S. In fact it looks to weaken to a depression. To much dry air coming off the coast of Africa for this system to overcome.

    1. John – haven’t heard from my SIL – not sure where he is but assuming he’s work busy. Sorry. I do think you are correct about not using it

        1. Just heard that he is not going to be on tonight on WEEI. No mention of the future.

Charlie….ah…forget it..no comment needed I should have considered the source.

      1. I wish we had “like” buttons to push here. I keep wanting to “like” Old Salty’s comments 🙂

  4. From AccuWeather:

Conditions are quickly becoming more favorable in the Atlantic for development, which is typical for mid- to late August.

Over the past week, the strong, opposing wind shear has weakened across the tropics. Furthermore, the dry, Saharan air off the African coast has begun to dissipate.

The disintegration of these factors will lead to an uptick of storms in the Atlantic Basin in the coming weeks.

        1. Vicki, I think it may still be too early to say. Mexico could still get hit.

I think it is wide open Texas/Mexico Border all the way
to New Orleans or perhaps even farther East.

Once an actual center develops, then we’ll get a much
clearer indication of where it might go.

          1. thanks – I made my bold prediction on the last blog…..based on the same instrument TK posted the other day for John 🙂

            1. Oh that one. You know I meant to post something, but got busy with something else.

Even though that clearly indicated in
was John’s weather instrument, I think
it is far more apropos of Charlie!

              1. That rock is going to be dry for quite some time to come.

ONCE AGAIN the pattern I forecast shows up – TWO MONTHS LATER. Sense a trend?

  5. From CPC for days 6-14 for SNE (combined 6-10 & 8-14):

    Precip: Near to below normal.
    Temps: Above normal.

    1. At least it’s late Aug and not mid summer, above normal 6 weeks ago was 95 degrees, now above normal is 80’s and once we get into late Sept 70’s will be above normal 🙂

  6. Jerry Remy is going to take some time off and Dennis Eckersley will fill in for him. I hope Red Sox nation reaches out to Remy to let him know their hearts ache not only for Jennifer Martel and her little child but also for him.

      1. I have a recent friend who was in a horrible relationship. I am not sure even she knows. No support from her family added to it. Kids and no idea where to go. Lots of reasons I think. Very sad. It takes a strong woman to get out of it and she did.

    1. I could not disagree with you more. Remy raised a son that became a monster. This Murder and all of the fall out should be placed right on the Remy Family’s Shoulders. I have zero sympathy for any of the Remy’s.

The most troubling issue I have with your post is that you suggest that the Martel Family has to share sympathy with the Family to fostered a killer. Unfathomable!

The Martel Family and especially that little girl should have all our attention and support.

        1. Sorry had to run and grab something out of the oven. Anyway….its all opinion. Neither right or wrong.

          1. What if one of your family members was murdered in a similar situation to what happened. Someone you cared deeply about. Would you still feel the same about the murders family?

            1. Yes, I’d feel the very same.

Coastal. It’s my opinion and my firm belief. I have never blamed a person for something his family did and I never will. And i speak from experience. Its ok for you but don’t in any way indicate it isn’t ok for me.

              1. Vicki,
                I’m with you on that.
My wife and I had a discussion, I think my wife is correct. She feels
Remy is probably feeling much guilt, for whatever reason.

                1. You can be unbelievable parents and give your children the most wonderful upbringing, but still they can go the other way. It happens all the time. A lot of times alcohol or drugs can be a key factor. I suspect steroids with this guy may have been a key component, those make you go into complete rage. It all comes down to the kid/ adult is accountable for his or her actions, but often the parents can be judged for there kids action, not quite fair if you have done everything right as a parent. I’m sure REM dog is beside himself with anger and guilt. But in the end he has no control whatsoever on how his adult son handles himself and on any decissions he may make, its up to each individual to decide on what kind of person they choose to be. Unfortunately the beautiful young lady could not find a way out, unfortunately this happens all of the time. She was trying to protect her child thinking maybe things will get better. Unfortunately by staying with this scumbag it cost her the ultimate price, death. And he is a scumbag.

  7. Geez the sunnier lawns that don’t have irrigation actually need a little water from Mother Nature

  8. A pair of 92’s showing up on Ch 7’s forecast middle of next week.

Oh and I thought we were done with any possibility of hitting 90… NOT!!!!

      1. Based on the Euro, high temps top out around or about 87. 😀

I don’t see the GFS any warmer.

Channel 7 looking at the voodoo charts again?

          1. It’s over bc it’s not light out till 9o clock anymore, it starts getting dark around 8 pm now 🙂

  9. Thanks TK! Hahaha when I first read this title I thought it said, “Farewell Feathered Friends!” hahaha And I’m like “What’s going to happen to the birds?!”

It was/is BEAUTIFUL today. Love it!

I could do without the nasty mosquitos though.

    I have 5 bug bites 🙁

But other than that, I’m loving the pattern we are getting into! 😀

Hope everyone had a great day today!

  10. Spectacular late summer day. The air had the smell and feel of more warmth. The sky was spectacular with cirrus clouds framing cumulus. Still 66 with a 59 DP

      1. I told a co-worker that the Yankees would WIN all
three games of this series. I stand by that.

The Sox are in the process of taking another monumental DIVE!

They can’t touch left handed pitchers and they can’t hit a decent
righty either. They can only hit meatballs.

    1. They do look great dont they. 80 is amazing. SIL said he was a good pick back when we got him except he has history of injury.

            1. Well I could have used the name I call him cause I can’t remember his name……ready…..

              Arugula

Part cause I can’t remember. Part cause drives my SIL crazy. Although he has gotten me in habit of remembering numbers 🙂

  11. Its the GFS, but for 2 or 3 runs now, its picking up on some tropical wave in the very long term and developing it. Interesting to see if this signal continues the next several days.

  12. Wife and I saw the Movie The Butler last evening. WOW!! A must see.
    Outstanding. Riveting.

And what a cast that included the following:

Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Robin Williams, John Cusack, Mariah Carey, Vanessa Redgrave, Jim Gleason, Lenny Kravitz, Liev Schreiber, Alan Rickman, and Jane Fonda

If Forest Whitaker doesn’t get an Oscar for his performance, then it is rigged.

  13. Latest indications are that even the disturbed area in the Gulf will NOT amount
to much of anything. Good news for Gulf Coast residents. 😀 😀

So far, so good. August 17th and counting.

  14. I realize many outlets are calling for 90+ for the middle and latter portions of next week but mark my words. Boston will NOT hit 90:D

  15. So …….. I went on the Marshfield Forum and the topic ….. New FEMA Flood Zones caught my attention. (I knew the topic had been out there for a while, but I decided to pay attention to it today, for whatever reason).

If I understand correctly, I guess Katrina, Sandy and all the other recent big events have created a big deficit because of all those understandably filing for help. And so …… again, if I understand correctly, redoing (read : increasing) flood zones will rewuire more to get flood insurance, thereby increasing the amount of money coming in.

Looks like next year, my neighborhood will now be included in the new flood zone. This is because the south river, which is tidal, runs just to the north of our neighborhood.

We have been here since April 2001 and the water level through the worst noreasters has remained probably 2 feet below the level of our roads in the neighborhood. This is also true of Sandy, Irene, etc ……..

Well, we’ll see, I guess. Never a dull moment. If it ends up I’m going to have to pay for flood insurance, I’ll hope for a storm of the half century to test their new maps for accuracy. 🙂

    1. You can’t win as a home owner tom. Good luck. I believe I read the same article if it was in the mariner. I like to still keep up with stuff in the old neighborhood. Heading to fair tomorrow.

      1. Thanks John. Enjoy the fair tomorrow. They certainly will have a run of great weather for it the next several days.

    2. It’s all a gimmick, they tell me all the time we need flood insurance, and we are around halfway up the hill at 240ft above sea level, the closest pond is around a mile away, been here 14 yrs and never seen a hint of flooding, good luck Tom 🙂

      1. Thanks Charlie ……. Well, thats what I was kind of thinking, even though I’m not anywhere near that high. I find the marshes to be a very good. In the biggest storms, they do turn into a lake. However, there’s about a 3 ft drop from our neighbor’s back yard into the base of the marsh. On the big storm’s, I have seen the water level in the marsh climb these full 3 feet and onto the grass of their back yard.

Here’s the key though……..there’s another slight two foot incline on all of those back yards bordering the marsh and the water level has not come close to climbing that.

  16. Hmmm
Boston Forecast from the Weather Channel for next week:
    Tuesday August 20
Sunny. Highs in the upper 80s and lows in the mid 60s.
    Wednesday August 21
Sunshine. Highs in the upper 80s and lows in the upper 60s.
    Thursday August 22
More sun than clouds. Highs in the low 90s and lows in the upper 60s.

  17. Thursday looks like the hottest day at this time. Most places should reach or slightly exceed 90, including east-facing shores. But still 5 days out, so confidence is medium.

    Blog is updated!
