Trio To Change Pattern

8:49PM

Our mild pattern has a few days left in it and by the middle of next week will have changed to a cooler than normal one. This will be helped along by a trio of cold frontal passages that will stair-step us down from the current mild spell. The first front will come through early Friday morning, the second front early Sunday morning, and the third late Tuesday night. Each of these fronts will bring a threat of rain showers to southeastern New England, but no widespread rains are anticipated. As a low pressure trough becomes established in central to eastern Canada, it will expand into the north central and northeastern USA as next week gets underway. This will finally send some colder mid Autumn air in this direction.

Updated forecast for southeastern New England (southern NH, eastern MA, and RI)…

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A period of showers pushing through west to east pre-dawn. Lows 55-60. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Partly to mostly sunny. Highs 65-70, lower 60s South Coast. Wind W 10-20 MPH, gusts around 30 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the 40s. Wind WNW 10-20 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs in the 60s. Wind NW to W 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers overnight. Lows in the 40s. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs around 60. Wind W 10-20 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 42. High 59.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Possible showers at night. Low 46. High 64.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Low 38. High 57.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Low 36. High 55.

    1. Tight gradient = gusty wind. It will be quite mild during the day but if the breeze keeps up at night there will be a decided chill in the air.

  1. We have a friend who has a farm in Stowe VT. He’s lives there all his life. He is now haying. He last haying was always August. It’s been progressively later for years. October is unheard of. Its a family farm. He is in his 60s. Lots of decades before him.

  2. Thanks tk, beautiful morning, I think that new addition Austin Collie has a BIG game this Sunday, I think Brady really really likes him, good day everyone πŸ™‚

  3. Just heard Gronk has been cleared to play and will suit up for the game Sunday. Great win by the Sox last night!!

  4. If its Dr. James Andrews who cleared him to play then I’ll believe it. If its not, than he won’t play. Andrews has apparently been calling the shots the whole time.

    1. I kinda wish he did, but it still making the jets rescramble bc he makes that much of a difference, especially inside the 25 yd line, gotta get to the bye, anyways nice morning here πŸ™‚

  5. Reading on FB that Siberian snow is way above average through mid October. Correlates to below normal temps and above average snow.

    1. Which would then correlate to snow days and summer break not beginning on June 13th …….. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ! πŸ™‚

    2. Thank you hadi. I reported that info to Tom as well here. That’s a very important factor. This could be an interesting winter for sure.

    1. Does North still play their night games at community field? I always hated how they had that beautiful football field and they never invested in lights. Had to play their home games at a junior high (it was the junior high when i was there)

      1. I haven’t heard the term junior high in decades. When I say it my kids look blankly at me

And it is an incredible night for fall football. My brother lived in Franklin. I’ll have to root for them πŸ™‚

        1. And good grief 80 (arugula) is out again this week.

Just kidding, Charlie. I know his name. But wow again??

  6. Seeing forecasts with stronger winds for Sunday. Saw a couple of TV mets with 15-30 mph winds and gusts in the 35-40 mph area.

  7. Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

Stars twinkle or scintillate because of
    A. Atmospheric turbulence
    B. Pollution
    C. Magnetic fields
    D. Stars change shape at speed of light

Answer later today. I got this one wrong.

  8. Just looking at the local weather here in CT and our Fox station showing the latest EURO run wants to develop a coastal storm later next week. I would not be surprised if places in northern new england see the first flakes of the season if that happens. Still a long way off but getting to that time of year when there are these coastal low threats you got to look at all parts of the atmosphere and see if there is any chance for wintry precipitation.

    1. I believe it was this time last year we were just beginning to talk about Sandy. I use the “we” loosely as I had little input but lots of interest.

  9. I survived two (2) 2.5 hour training sessions per day for the whole past week.
    I am exhausted.

Oh, btw, I was the trainer and not the trainee.

You know what is like to train non-technical people to use a smart phone and applications on that phone and then teach them how to use a mobile hotspot
or USB tethering to access the internet with their laptops???

    INSANITY!!!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

what’s this about a coastal system? Gotta check that out. πŸ˜€

    1. NOT impressed.

Will only say that the pattern will become cooler and “appears” to get active.
More interesting than it has been. πŸ˜€

    2. OS I cringed…literally. I’ve done a fair amount of training and it ain’t pretty. Delta is adopting the nokia phone so that passengers can pay the flight attendants directly. My sister in law is the epitome of a non tech person which is fine but all I could think of when she told me what delta is doing is the individual who has to train.

  10. BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG game tonight:

With St. Louis wrapping up the NLCS, the Red Sox and Tigers will play Game 6 of the ALCS at 8:07 p.m.

Clay Buchholz best be on his game tonight. GO SOX!

  11. Did anyone read that article that by 2030 20.7 % of the population of Rhode Island will be 65+ yrs old, a state that is gonna have a slow death, and there have been rumors of them becoming annexed. Nice morning down here, heading to the football field for the day πŸ™‚

      1. I also read that by 2045 that number will shoot up to around 30%, that’s what they get for denying new construction and forcing young people away, don’t they get that people don’t put into the tax system when there above 65-70 yrs old, yet they keep with the same way and same old ideas, anyways it’s just a sad for the state, vt is nice but there’s nothing there but trees and bed and breakfast, vt is gone back in time hence why they r a stagnant going no where state, nice place to visit, bad place to live πŸ™‚

        1. Charlie I know you won’t get it but some people actually enjoy living where there is nothing but grass and cows. It doesn’t mean the state is dead. It simply means it is different. And VT has always been as it is. It’s not gone back in time but remained true to itself.

BTW – with the number of baby boomers getting to the age group you mentioned, every state will see an increase. Oh and also, because we are old, doesn’t mean we are incapable of contributing πŸ™‚

        2. vermont is a wonderful place to visit, they have so many nice places to go, Nice site seeing and the best skiing in new england

  12. Four more wake-ups til we head to Disney. I am starting to think that I may be more excited than my boys! I feel like a little kid.

TK – any thoughts on the weather next week in Disney?

    1. Sue I love counting wake-ups (or sleeps). I actually got goosebumps when I thought of you going to Disney. I think we all feel the magic of the place with just its mention – no matter how old we are.

    2. So nice sue. So what day you going and for how long. We went Saturday to Saturday. We had an early flight down and late back which was perfect. We got there at the resort just after 11am and left at like late afternoon so we had two full Saturdays. I loved the beach club where we stayed and you could walk to Epcot. If I looked out my room across the river I could see clearly Hollywood tower of terror, I liked Hollywood studios. Hopefully you have a meal plan. Not sure if you have been to Disney so just some quick info. Soaring at Epcot is an awesome ride. Take the ferry to any parks you can as the kids will like the boat ride. At Epcot there is a charector spot inside all day where Mickey, Minnie and goofy hang out. The electrical parade at m kingdom is cool and that’s at nighttime. During the day at m kingdom they have great shows in front of the kingdom. If your pressed for time and choosing what park to do my opinion animal kingdom is nothing special, unless you like that stuff. The hot thing there is the safari tour and we did not do that. My favorite park in order is m kingdom, Hollywood and Epcot. Test trac at Epcot the boys would like as you design a car than race it. Rocking roll Aerosmith coaster is cool as it goes upside down but not sure what your boys may think of that. Allears.com also has some great information. If you know all this sorry as just trying to help. Enjoy sue and go sox.

      1. Nice input, John. I just enjoyed reading it and I’m not going πŸ™ I would like the safari as we all like animals and I’d love to go on a real one but the one at disney is probably as close as I’d get.

      1. I liked the train also, Matt. Made me wonder where it was going and where I’d like it to take me. I also really liked the split rail fence as it reminded me of Vermont.

  13. Euro looking very interesting for next week. Cold temps at 850 but warm surface temps in Easter sections. Interior could be very different

  14. Glancing blow in terms of cold next week. Yes, the midsection of the country will get quite cold. But, by the time the front gets here (it’s elongated) it’ll be mitigated. So much so that I doubt whether Boston sees a frost next weekend. Interior will see significant frost, but it won’t be especially cold for late October.

  15. Answer to today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

Stars twinkle or scintillate because of
    A. Atmospheric turbulence
    B. Pollution
    C. Magnetic fields
    D. Stars change shape at speed of light

    Correct answer is A

  16. Just reading about the train and it reminded me of when my daughter and I went to see Creighton U in Nebraska. We were at a brand new hotel, and when we looked out the window, we saw train tracks literally 5 feet from the building. So, of course, they couldn’t possibly be in use, until the train chugged by and stopped. And no, of course the guy couldn’t see us watching from the window, until he waved….LOL

    1. I could picture that whole scenario. I thought of noses pressed against a window watching and waving. :). Of course then my fanciful mind went to mom and daughter watching for santas sleigh in the sky. πŸ˜€

    1. Detroits pitcher I believe has never pitched a complete game. Boston’s bull pen is one of the best going . My opinion I don’t think who scores first wins, maybe. I’m really thinking its going to heat up when we see the change. If clay continues his good pitching and Detroit as well, could they both go complete games. For boston this is a big chess match as who blinks first.

  17. Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

What was the coldest temperature of a World Series game.

    A. 48
    B. 38
    C. 28
    D. 18

    Answer later today.

  18. Tom that was the 97 World Series Cleveland and Florida. I remember the weather channel coming out with the headline polar pitch for that game of the World Series.

  19. I wonder if Nick is still reading here. Mac and our son are playing his course today :). A bit breezy!!

  20. Looks like the world series weather in boston and st louis will be very similar, at least temp wise. Around 50 gametimes quickly dropping through the 40s during the games.

  21. Nice Sox win last night. For once our manager pulled the starter at the correct time.

My only complaint: I would have yanked Morales after walking the batter to load the bases. I’d rather Workman pitch to Martinez batting left handed than Morales pitch to Martinez batting right handed.

    Bruins were awesome.

Now for the Pat’s. Looks like Gronk plays, but many players out.

Going to get CHILLY around here later in the week.

Ocean temps still very very MILD. πŸ˜€

    1. Oldsalty I think you and I think alike when it comes to sports. I was screaming get him out of there now. Sox just looking really good.

  22. I’ll go with C for the trivia question since we may get a reading of 38 deg this year, and that seems way too common this time of year for a record.

  23. HI ALL!!

    I have not forgotten you!

    1) Been a very busy few days here.
    2) A frustrating technical glitch has been slowing my ability to do site admin and I’m trying to resolve it without enlisting the help of my in-house tech geeks (and I may have won the battle).
    3) In either case, I’ll be posting The Week Ahead on the early side today, so stay tuned….
    4) I will also read all comments on this blog post and reply if needed either here or at the top of the comment string on The Week Ahead (depending on how many, if any, need replies).
    5) Thank you for your patience and loyalty. πŸ˜€

  24. This is by far the best blog I have read and participated in. You should check out the accuweather forums sometime to see what goes on over there….Testament to you TK and your hardwork! Thanks for all that you do!

    1. It’s a very very long shot, only because the air later Wednesday night will be cold enough to support snow in the column, but this may take place hours after any precipitation is gone from the area.

      1. 1st half was not stellar at all. 2nd half is worse. I think the Pats were only favored by 3-4 points.

  25. John…thank you SO much for you input. It is very much appreciated. We leave at 7:15 Wednesday morning and come back on Monday. Would have liked to go longer but didn’t want pull the boys out school for too many days. We are staying at Pop Century and we are looking forward to watch the Sox down there!!! Friends of ours will also be there so we are meeting up with them on Friday to do Hollywood Studios together. I am off the wall excited. Just wish I didn’t have to do the laundry and packing before we go!

Vicki…you are so sweet. I will e-mail some pics when we get back. πŸ™‚

    1. I would LOVE pics. And we will all be thinking of you. We stayed at the All Star last time and I think that’s like the pop. If so we loved it.

    1. Not so sure. Best guess is BB believes the rules are not specific enuf and 94 was taught to do exactly what he did. Its the BB ego thing.

  26. god dam i say bull crap on the refs callings, stupid rule and i did not see him pushing anyone. RIGGED!!
