October’s Home Stretch

7:29AM

The last 7 days of October are expected to go like this:

Today will be a breezy and cool today with sun and clouds between broad low pressure in eastern Canada and high pressure over the Ohio Valley. With a piece of this high expanding over southern New England tonight, causing lighter winds, the coldest temperature readings of the Autumn so far will occur over most of the region Saturday morning. A low pressure wave passing north of New England late Saturday and Sunday will bring slightly milder air into the region but also some clouds, though precipitation should remain largely north of the area – can’t rule out a brief rain shower in the early hours of Sunday (should be just too warm to support any mix/snow but even if it did occur there would not be enough to accumulate). High pressure brings nice days Monday and Tuesday. The midweek period (Wednesday-Thursday) look more unsettled at least in terms of more cloudiness and possibly wetter weather as a battle zone between retreating cool air to the north and advancing warm air from the south will be set up in the region.

Detailed forecast for southeastern New England (southern NH, eastern MA, and RI)…

TODAY: Sunny morning. Partly cloudy afternoon. Highs around 50. Wind W 10-20 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clear. Widespread frost. Lows 25-30 inland, 30-35 coast. Wind W under 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Sunny start, mostly cloudy finish. Highs around 55. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Brief passing rain shower mainly north of Boston. Lows 40-45. Wind WSW 10-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs in the 50s. Wind W 10-20 MPH.

MONDAY: Partly cloudy.  Low 38. High 54.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 36. High 51.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 40. High 54.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain. Low 43. High 55.

  1. Thank you, TK. Hope the temps do not drop too quickly when the sun sets. We head to Tales of the Night at Drumlin Farm in Lincoln. It’s as good as it gets for little kids IMHO

And wonder how Sue and family are doing in Disney. I haven’t seen how the weather is there.

WE haven’t seen Captain in a while 🙁

  2. Thanks, TK.

Our new heating system (heat pump) is so far working ok. In our apt. complex, we were picked along w/1 other apt. in our bldg. to try this new, efficient system out for a yr. If it is successful, they will put it the rest of the apts. But it is still drafty in our apt. – prob’ly because we are on the 1st floor and we live practically in the middle of the woods. Nonetheless, I am still looking forward to the first snow of the season.

    1. I just picked a lovely bouquet of snap dragons 🙂 I’ll have to check with Mac to see if there was frost when he left

  3. Has anyone ever had to deal with Columbia Gas (formerly Bay State Gas)? Absolutely terrible service. We are in the final stages of switching from oil to gas and the whole process has been a nightmare from the beginning. Took them 4 months to even come out and connect the house from the street, then ive been on a waiting list for a meter for the last 2 weeks (they say it only takes 3 days). This week especially has been tough with no heat. They finally schedule us for a meter install this past monday. Each day this week went by with no meter, not even a phone call. I call and when i finally get through they say they couldn’t get to it today and reschedule for the next day. They kept pushing it back. After I called every day to no avail I had enough, i told them we had a baby in the house (which of course isn’t true). We finally got a meter last night…at 2am, lol. Horrible company with a monopoly in the area. They know they have u by the u know what and treat their customers as such. Gas is great and cheap but dealing with the company makes it almost not worth it.

    1. I am doubled over here, Ace. Not at your problem but at your solution. As I read, I was thinking how I’d suggest you tell them you have an infant in a PC manner 😆 It works every time.

It’s every business. I literally feel as if you have to fight your way to the top to get anything done. If we keep empowering big business in this country, it will only get worse. HMMMMMM was that not politically correct 😉

  4. I was hoping i didn’t offend anyone in case they worked for them, lol. I wish we had other options for gas companies in my area. A little competition is good, keeps them on their toes. Oh well. I see warmth on the maps for the first week of Nov.

    1. Ace,

We have New England Gas and it is the same thing. They are small around here too. They replaced my line to the street last summer and put my meter outside not at my request and left me over 4 days with a leak in the soil by the street. Strong smell but they said far enough from the house (not far for me) to be not considered an emergency. I said really??? When I told me they could pay for a hotel for us. They changed their mind on if it was an emergency. Love the price of gas, but the customer service sucks!

          1. Not on our side. I love sleeping in this weather. Is your heat on?

And mac said no frost on the lawn and he didnt even have to scrape the car windows. I was surprised.

            1. Yes on Wednesday. I did not do it!

Find out my Mom will have her gallbladder out on 11/18. SE has been ok at home this month for the most part. It is only 10 days before Thanksgiving. Hopefully she is doing ok by then. She will have the fluid out near her pancreas after that.

              1. You didnt do it 🙂 🙂

I will keep up your mom in my prayers. Thank you for telling me. For what its worth the 18th of any month is a great day 🙂

                1. Thanks Vicki. She has had a tough time and is in need of some good luck.

I did not turn on the heat. My wife did. She is out of work looking for a job and now thinks she owns the gas company and is turning it up every day!

I have to bring her back to earth when I get home each night.

                2. I’m going to be out of work after nov 1 for a few months. Tell your wife I gave notice to enjoy heat now. This is it 🙂

  5. Does anyone know when the wind will die down? It will be awfully cold for the baby and even younger kids at the event tonight if it keeps up

  6. Is anyone here familiar with the CFSv2 model? Brett Anderson mentions it in his latest blog.

Also, from what I can tell from his blog, it seems weather models in general have problems forecasting weeks 3 and 4…TOO MUCH UNCERTAINTY.

  7. Hello!!! It is an absolutely perfect day in central Florida today!!! The weather has been awesome! We hit Hollywood Studios earlier and now we poolside enjoying the sun and 80 degree day we have! This has been the trip of a lifetime for all of us so far.

    1. I have the biggest smile. It’s not only GREAT to hear from you but nice of you to share your fun. What a magically perfect place 🙂 I know you will enjoy every second!
