The Week Ahead

10:45PM

With the wild wind & rain & thunder of Saturday night & early Sunday behind us, it’s now time to look ahead at the weather for the week ahead, which for many will be quite busy in one form or another (Patriots Day & Boston Marathon, Good Friday, Easter Sunday). What’s mother nature going to send our way for these days and the others? Read on for my thoughts…

Tonight… A disturbance is sending another batch of clouds into the region and scattered rain showers may occur during the overnight hours, but this activity will be gone by dawn.

Monday (Patriots Day / Boston Marathon / Red Sox)… A big whirlpool of chilly air aloft (the upper low associated with the storm of Saturday night and the lingering showers of Sunday) will continue to spin as it passes north of US, moving eastward across southeastern Canada. An area of drier air will be passing over us during the day Monday, keeping the weather settled, temperatures fairly mild, and providing a tail wind for marathon runners, though a bit gusty. Conditions will also be favorable for Patriots Day festivities and the Red Sox game at Fenway from late morning through early afternoon. Fair weather clouds will develop by mid morning and may cover at least half the sky at times by late morning, keeping this from being a sunny day. Also, a disturbance approaching from the west will send some clouds into the region during the afternoon but any shower activity should hold off until the night.

Tuesday… A warm front will be located south of us, and high pressure building across southern Canada will turn winds into the northeast in the cooler airmass north of this warm front. Clouds will rule the day and temperatures will be fairly chilly as the northeast wind comes in off the still-cold North Atlantic. Some periods of rain and/or drizzle may develop as the warm air to the south overrides the chilly air over us.

Wednesday… It’s a wildcard day with the major question being whether or not that warm front pushes north of the Boston area, getting us into the warm airmass. That would mean a significant warm up along with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. However, current indications are that the front will have trouble pushing this far north and the cool and damp air will win out. This would mean a day similar to Tuesday, though an approaching disturbance later in the day could enhance any rainfall in the region. This cool and damp to eventually wet scenario is what I am leaning toward at the moment.

Thursday… Low pressure and a cold front will sweep through the region early, clearing out the unsettled weather of Tuesday & Wednesday, though an upper level low may still promote some cloudiness and a few showers, so at this point I cannot forecast a sunny day here.

Friday (Earth Day / Good Friday)… At the moment, this looks like the best day of the week, with high pressure overhead.

Saturday… The next disturbance in a rather progressive jet stream pattern should arrive with clouds and a chance of rain or showers.

Sunday (Easter)… Confidence is low, being so far out into the future. But for now I will play the optimistic card, and go with fair and mild weather, as I believe the disturbance of Saturday will be gone and high pressure will be moving in. Of course, I’ll be updating the weekend forecast as we get closer to it.

  1. In 1 week it seems like everything has blossomed, and all the houses I could see through the bare trees the last 4 months is filling in, another wk or 2 I won’t be able to see anybodys house

  2. My daffodils have now blossomed and the tulips should be in bloom sometime this week assuming some sun occurs, although the outlook for that doesn’t look too promising for that until maybe Thursday? We will see.

From what I have been reading regarding flowers here on this blog, the suburbs tend to bloom first in the spring, then the coast. IIRC it was Vicki and others who were mentioning daffodils when my crocuses were just getting going.

  3. Red Sox win again, 9-1. We finally have pitching! 🙂

As for the Bruins, they need to win tonight or it is truly over.

    1. They sure do! I was at Saturday nights game, they just couldn’t get the puck in the net and Montreal made them pay for the couple mistakes. Hopefully a different result tonight.

Who would have predicted Dice-K – 7 innings, one hit ball. You just never know with him, could last an inning and get blown out, could be a painful 5 or 6 innings with 5 or 6 runs, or he can pitch a gem.

And I guess we have to mention the Celtics, pull victory right out jaws of defeat last night, wow… hopefully they get on a better role, can be waiting until the last few seconds every game…

Maybe some of our recent bad sports mojo is starting to wear off, though!

    2. That’s right. Nobody EVER comes back from down 3-0 in a series…

      😉

      1. Remember, the Bruins have never come back in a series down 2-0, so why expect them at 3-0? Even if they win tonight, it could still just be postponing the “inevitable”.

        1. What’s happened in the past has no effect on the results now. The only ones to control that are the players on the ice now, not the teams of the past. 🙂

  4. Son finished marathon in 4:32. He has never run more than 14 miles and runs but no formal training. We are very proud of him. Your forecast early last week for today was on the mark:)

  5. Congrats to your son Vicki. Will see if the Bruins could win and make this a good sports day.
As for weather unsettled is the word I would use to describe it the next couple of days. It looks like a warm front wants to lift through on Wednesday before a cold front comes through during the evening. The thunderstorm chances with that don’t seem big and would be rumbles if anything so I am only giving a 1.
