Forecast Refresh

12:15AM

For those that celebrate, Easter Weekend (or Good Friday through Easter Sunday) has arrived. Will the weather cooperate? For the most part, the answer is yes. Two dry days will surround one wet one. And as it stands, the wet one (Saturday) won’t be all that wet. After the windy day Thursday which saw mixed sun/clouds & even a few sprinkles, we have seen a clear and cold night as winds dropped off. High clouds ahead of the Saturday system will spill across the sky at times on Friday, dimming the sun. Some scattered lower fair weather clouds may also develop, so it will not be a completely sunny day. An ocean wind will keep temperatures rather cool. This cool weather will continue Saturday, which will be a cloudier day. Episodes of rain are possible, especially in the afternoon into the night. The frontal system responsible for the Saturday unsettled weather will stall just offshore Sunday, but there should be enough dry air working in to result in at least a little sun at times, along with milder temperatures for Easter.

  1. I agree with what u say except for the chance of snow sat morning, I don’t see that even to be a chance in Boston area, thanks tk for the blog and have a great weekend 🙂

  2. I like the looks of temps next week but nit the showers and clouds associated with those temps. Heading up to Augusta Maine for Easter and its pretty crappy up there to say the least. Have a good day everyone.

  3. Good Morning Everyone,
I have been rather busy as of late so I haven’t check in for a while. I have noticed more green in my lawn a couple of weeks ago but the progression has slowed a bit as of late. Maybe its because of the cooler and cloudy days we have been experiencing? The upcoming week looks to be a bit warmer than the past week so I am going to try and over seed my lawn, lay down a fertilizer and work on fixing some patches that were created be leveling a portion of my back yard. I feel uncomfortable saying “lawn” because its really just a ugly mix of crab grass and other grass and weed species. But it is green in the summer! I have already had an experience with a tick this week. We found one on my wife’s neck, though it did not have time to settle in, it still makes me a bit nervous having my daughter and soon enough my son playing in the back yard, as well as my dog. I know that there is a group of deer that occasionally strolls through during the morning time so I am guessing that’s not helping my situation. I plan on laying down a organic pesticide on my lawn before the rain starts this weekend, the rain will help it sink into the grass. I’m hoping that will help a bit. I have also removed a lot of bushes and shrubs along my yard where it meets the woods. But I need to think of a way to re-direct the Deers path away from my back yard. I am thinking of using a small fence (deer fencing or a 3′ metal wire fence) to do this because there is nothing in my yard the deer would want to eat and this just might do the trick. My yard abuts conservation land so there is plenty of room for the deer to travel.

  4. Coastal welcome back to the blog. Its good to hear from you. I also found the same thing with the lawn where it was green even before fertilizer was put on it. With the rain we have had its time to get ready to get the lawn mower out for the season.

    1. It’s very different here in se mass, I’ve mowed twice already, but I was in nh 4 days ago and it’s brown, and here everythings bloomed

  5. Dang my lawn sits there waiting for some warm sunny days. It looks like it did in mid winter not even a dandelion poking it’s head out. Good to read your post Coastal. I do believe this weekend will be a bust all around, if we see the sun it will just be a glimpse if at all. I would like to be wrong about it though.

  6. Barry must have updated the 7-day at noontime and it looks terrible for tomorrow with rain and cold temps (mid-upper 40’s). Easter Sunday looks nice and most of next week the temps will be in the low 70’s with very little rain. Hopefully with sun & warm temps my tulips will finally open up. They are tight as a drum right now.

  7. It amazes me that even as we near late April, there is still a solid 6″+ of snow from extreme northern NH through most of northwestern Maine.

    1. I agree it is amazing like I said it even amazes me driving an hr north into southern nh were it’s brown and here 30 miles south of Boston everything is in full spring blossom, winter feels like long ago in my memory now. Next week is May.

  8. I am looking forward to those 70s for part of next week then a cold front looks to come in for Thursday with a chance for showers and thunderstorms to knock the temperatues back to the 60s. To me as we are going into the warmer months should be call fronts and not cold fronts since there is no real cold air associated with them.
I just checked the CPC three month outlook and it calls for above normal precipitation while temperatures are equal chance.

  9. Rain will start right around 6am, my latest thinking is between .55-.85 for most of us, a few will come in a little less and some will come in a little more, I don’t think much sun will show on Easter, there could be a few peaks though,

    1. Even with the earlier start time, there certainly is just enough cold air that will be overhead that if it came down hard enough, flakes could mix in briefly. This is a little altered from the thinking that we’d stay colder/drier longer and precip would start later, which was my timing about 24 hours ago.
