The Chill Of April

7:24AM

High pressure centered over the St. Lawrence Valley will slide eastward through the Canadian Maritime Provinces through Friday. An onshore flow (northeast to east) will dominate through Friday, relaxing later Friday. This will keep the weather fair but cool, though some scattered ocean clouds will visit coastal areas at times today and more so on Friday, starting to increase more later Friday. A pair of low pressure areas, one passing well southeast of New England, and a secondΒ  one passing north of the region, will bring some cloudiness into the region for Saturday though these systems will be fairly weak and not interactive with each other, so the chance for any precipitation on Saturday is minimal. High pressure will build across the region Sunday (Easter for many) and Monday (Patriots Day & Boston Marathon) with some great weather – seasonable to mild, coolest along the coast. A low pressure system will approach Tuesday and exit Wednesday with some unsettled weather at that time.

Forecast for southeastern New England…

TODAY: Mostly sunny – some high clouds in the north sky early, scattered low clouds from the ocean at times. Highs in the lower to middle 40s. Wind NE 10-20 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clear except partly cloudy with ocean clouds at times near the shorelines. Lows in the 30s. Wind ENE 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny – occasional ocean clouds coastal areas and somewhat inland at times, tending to increase late, also some high cloudiness coming in from the west. Highs in the middle to upper 40s. Wind E 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Low 38. High 54.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 40. High 60, cooler coast.

MONDAY: Partly sunny. Low 45. High 64, cooler coast.

TUESDAY: Cloudy. PM rain showers. Low 48. High 60, cooler coast.

  1. It sure is chilly, with a biting wind too. I had to check the calendar this morning to make sure this is really April. I noticed where daffodils had bloomed, they are now drooped flat to the ground and all but dead in many spots. This is why i cant have nice things πŸ™‚

  2. With Boston receiving 0.3 inch of snow yesterday, Logan’s total (final?) = 58.9″

I hope this puts to rest the debate around here that it can’t snow in April. πŸ™‚

  3. Rainshine. Don’t know if you are reading or if you found a restaurant. I completely forgot Alta Strada in Wellesley. I just got an email for their Easter dinner so suspect they still have settings available. They are a bit pricey but have great small bites. I don’t know if they have a set Easter menu though

  4. Thanks TK !

The current barometers are reading btwn 30.70 and 30.80 inches. Quite a strong high pressure area !! About 1,039 to 1,042 mb.

  5. The chill in the air is worse today due to the Bleepity bleep bleep EAST WIND!!!!

Yesterday wasn’t so bad with the bright sunshine.

Given that, I can stand to cold IF we have abundant sunshine. That sun is oh so
warm this time of year. πŸ˜€

    1. None in the City (Not over my area anyway), BUT can see them off to the South. πŸ˜€

Good Call. IF it we January, we’d be having Ocean Effect Snows.

    1. INDEED!!!

At 11AM temperatures are 35-38 Degrees across the entire area!

      That is DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wind is howling out of the NORTHEAST!!!

ALL we need now is LOW CLOUDS and DRIZZLE. That would complete
      the Day!!!

          1. The ocean is trying to send more low clouds inland than were forecast! Did you jinx us? Looks like it’s temporary though. Dry air behind it…

            1. The ocean is awesome today. Not as wild as a couple of weeks ago but still tons of fun. If a few comforting clouds accompany the waves, that’s ok πŸ˜‰

            2. Yes, got pretty cloudy here. What a bummer. This weather blows!

Where is our 70 degree weather?

Oh wait a minute, we have to wait until JUNE for that. πŸ˜†

  6. Wind, solid clouds, cold enough that even I can sit out for only short periods and a VERY active ocean. All makes for an interesting day. Oh and sea foam πŸ™‚

      1. I think TK covered that in the rules. Any snow that fell on the pile while it existed would count, but NOT any after it melted. When it was gone, that was it. (I think)

  7. 46 degrees in north Attleboro mostly sunny
My geraniums seem to be ok, got down to 29.7 degrees, but the warm mulch I applied through the yard back 3 weeks ago I think helps πŸ™‚

  8. The contest was for the snow pile’s disappearance. So it indeed ended on the 10th. Whether we got no more snow, a trace, or 10 feet, the contest covering that particular pile was done when it melted. I did mention it I believe, when we first chatted about it. I don’t think my brother attempted to make another pile out of the just over 1/2 inch that fell anyway. πŸ™‚

Incidentally, I went on a long walk with my son this afternoon and there were some north-facing hillsides and north sides of houses where the snow and sleet was still on the ground. Someone’s yard that faces away from the sun was covered in about 1/2 inch, and that was late this afternoon.

    1. Again like many years it’s very different here in the southern third of the woodshill forecast area, lots of mowing if your lawns being fertilized, and it looks like spring with most trees budded, good day tk πŸ™‚

We could be in Chicago, they got 3 inches πŸ™‚

      1. I raked about half my yard so far. The part I raked is started to green up a bit. The other part is still sleeping, but not for long.

  9. Despite it being 40 the last two days, it was a very warm 40 because the sun is just so warm

  10. Dogwood, forsythia and willows all blooming on the south shore. Mac had to go to doctors for a back pull and said he saw dogwood in bloom in needham too.

  11. Idk why but while I was out a couple hours ago, it felt like Nov to me, I know the sun angle is very different now, but it still felt like late fall πŸ™‚

  12. I am worried about the B’s. I don’t like that they are playing Detroit and too many guys are sick. Ugh!

  13. Brrr

    30.5 this morning.

Where are all of those hair dryers? We need em to warm up the ocean!!!!

    The 2 off-shore bouys:

    Water Temperature: 39.4 Β°F (4.1 Β°C)
    Water Temperature: 40.1 Β°F (4.5 Β°C)

Let’s see…today is April 18! Not sure I have EVER seen those bouys
this cold at this time of year.

Btw, we almost tied a record for yesterday at logan. The MAXIMUM high temperature for 4/17 is 39 in 1880. Logan’s high was 40 yesterday.

  14. Lester looked awesome last night. Why won’t the Red Sox pay the man?

Oh wait a minute, could it possibly have anything to do with chicken and beer? πŸ˜†

  15. Regarding comments on game. 7 games I think and I think they have a tough time with Detroit. It’s nice to have a good sporting event on for Easter Sunday.

    1. Place you cursor on the glob and move it for a view of a different part of the globe.

      Really Way cool!!!
