Quick Update

10:43AM

Apologies for the lack of posts. Busy few days, fitting work in, and going for a heart test today. It’s a routine test, nothing wrong!

WEATHER UPDATE

Potent disturbance today, cold air aloft, lots of clouds, areas of showers, a few thunderstorms, even a chance for some hail. Not really a recipe for severe storms, just some notable ones where they occur.

It settles down but stays chilly as low pressure departs to the east and high pressure approaches from the west Thursday. The funneling effect between the 2 will keep it windy, thought it will be a bright day.

Clouds return Friday ahead of the next disturbance which comes through Friday night into Saturday with another round of showers. Still not sure how things turn out later in the weekend and early next week. Will keep a general low confidence forecast for now and re-examine later today.

Forecast for southeastern New England…

TODAY: Mostly to variably cloudy. Occasional showers. A few thunderstorms with possible hail. Highs around 60. Wind variable 5-15 MPH through midday, NW 15-25 MPH and gusty this afternoon.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows upper 30s to middle 40s. Wind NW 15-25 MPH and gusty.

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Highs in the 50s. Wind NW 15-25 MPH gusting over 30 MPH.

FRIDAY: Increasing clouds. Showers at night. Low 45. High 60.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 47. High 60.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of showers. Low 44. High 62.

  1. Looking at the NEXRAD radar, ALL of this convection is Very LOW topped. Current
height top leader is a cell that tops off at 9,000 feet. The freezing level is fairly low,
so hail is still “possible” even with these low toppers, however, current indications
are that NONE of the current convection contains hail.

    😀

  2. Thanks TK !

    3 thunder/lightning combos in last 10 minutes.

No lead up to first combo and it was nasty. Not more than 1 second apart, house shook. So did I. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  3. Thanks, TK – and good luck with your test.

We had some pretty loud thunder here this morning – prob’ly the storm that hit Lexington shortly afterwards.

  4. Am I seeing a cutoff low next week? It would be the first in a long time, so we’re sort of due. But, unfortunately, cutoff low’s have a tendency to come in 4-6 week patterns. Hopefully we don’t see a cutoff low pattern in May and early June. I remember May of `98 (maybe it was `99) being as wet and miserable as any May I’ve experienced. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.

      1. Booo!!!!

Go back into the Weather Office and don’t come out again
until you can forecast better weather! 😆 😈 👿 😆

  5. Joshua I mentioned yesterday that I thought cold and rainy for the next two weeks, so unfortunately it appears to be the case.

  6. Chilly day today especially during the showers, suns back out mixed with clouds, I actually think spring is beautiful, lots of yellow mixed with other spring colors, the maple trees just sprouted yesterday, good day everyone

    Starting 2nd rounds tommorrow 🙂

  7. Looks like there will be baseball tonight, albeit CHILLY!!!

Let’s see how the Sox can F it up tonight. I’m confident they’ll find a way!
Here’s guessing that Lackluster gets blown out of the park.

On the other hand, GO BRUINS!!! They are looking mighty fine.

    1. Sox ship Nava back to Pawtucket. What a shame after the season he
had last year. Just goes to show you, it’s what have you done for me lately!!!

Daniel Nava’s slow start has resulted in a trip back to the Minor Leagues.

    1. Average highs r 60-65 degrees depending on exactly where u live in eastern Mass for late April. Below average this time of year is at least tolerable 🙂

  8. I had on my winter coat today and am glad I did. I got caught in the midday downpour and I was drenched. The TV mets were spot on the forecast for a change so I knew the risk but I had errands to do. I was planning on putting the winter coat in the dry cleaners and in storage Saturday but after looking at the CPC outlook and the TV mets extended, I will keep it around for awhile longer into at least early May.

Ironically, even though I am always stubborn about putting away the winter coat, I am also just as stubborn putting on the coat in late November and early December. Sometimes I don’t get it out until the week before Christmas. 😉

    TK – Any chance of a repeat of A.) May 2002, B.) spring/summer 2009, C.) both or D.) neither?

From what I can tell though, it doesn’t look like any consistent warmth anytime soon. I certainly don’t want any HHH but the spring chill is starting to get old.

  9. How stupid for him to do that again after he got a way with it last time he pitched against Boston.

    1. It’s been whipping all month so I think we just got used to it. Our son is here tonight and was impressed though .,..especially since the house sways 🙂

  10. Hopefully, we get some 70’s around memorial day. But until then it looks to be cool and wet. Hopefully not to wet because my basement gets very wet.

  11. I know TK called for gusts over 30 mph, but I am wondering if it will be over 40. Saturday looking like a very wet day.

  12. Saturday looks downright awful! 45 degrees and rain on April 26. The Euro shows 2-4″ of snow out towards Worcester and north and west of there with a few flakes mixing in all the way to I95!!
