The No Go Low

3:37PM

An upper level low pressure area will amble its way across New England but be very sluggish in doing so, not quite wanting to get out of here until sometime over the Memorial Day Weekend, so there is going to be a shower threat in the forecast through Sunday. The good news is, by Sunday the shower risk will become minimal. Also holding out much hope for a little taste of Summer for the Memorial Holiday itself on Monday.

Looking ahead into next week, it looks warm and possibly thundery on Tuesday, and very nice at midweek as a passing cold front is followed by a bubble of high pressure.

  1. Thank you Tk.
    84 for Monday. Nice!!!

Downtown traffic is gridlocked. Rain and ball game
    Will do that!!

      1. Yes, unfortunately it has done damage, radar picked up quite a bit of debris, Pete was talking about it on TV a few minutes ago.

        1. Yes, I saw Pete’s segment as well, which sent me over to TWC and they are covering it too.

Scary to see that debris ball signature.

  2. Thanks TK! Waiting to hear if my son will have his flag football game tonight. Thankfully they keep an eye on the weather and don’t cancel days before. I have a feeling we may get it in.

  3. TWC said NY storm produced tea cup size jail and cooled the storm to make less of tornado threat. Although they didn’t say a word about an actual tornado

  4. The NWS out of Albany, NY is going to go out and investigate and see if an actual tornado happened or was it straight line wind damage.

  5. JR really blew his forecast this morning. He was calling for only “sprinkles” for all of eastern MA including the Cape with the most showers well off to the west and southwest. I can’t recall him ever blowing a forecast like that.

Having said that, I looked at the radar (Intellicast) around 11:15 am or so and it looked fairly quiet with any showers well to the west and mostly light and scattered at that.

  6. OS, sat in that gridlocked traffic tonight. Left Boston at 5, got to North Attleboro at 6:30

    1. Oh ewwwwww. We have a 4:00 appointment in the longwood medical area tomorrow. Last Friday we left there at 2:45 and it took 2.5 hours to get down rt 9 to framingham. I forgot it is a holiday weekend. It may take us hours if we leave at 5:00.

        1. He is ok, north. Thanks for asking. Radiation started but it is really painful to lie flat because of his spine. The doctors are figuring it out and they are all amazing 🙂

          1. We are very lucky to live where we do and have access to such high levels of medical care :). Keeping Mac in our prayers.

            1. You are very correct. His appointment today is with the director of oncology in macs specific area at Dana Farber. We are incredibly lucky to be seeing him. I’m sure that your prayers and everyone’s are being heard 🙂

  7. I think it was some people getting an early start to the weekend. Early start today so I had to drive out of the city and it was tough tonight.

  8. I wish cherry blossom trees were out year round! I am going to miss seeing them!

I am loving this spring rain. It does make me sleepy, but that’s okay 🙂

  9. Vicki,

Best of luck today. Hope all goes well and you don’t have the extra
    aggravation of traffic.

I was sitting at Mass Eye and Ear infirmary yesterday as my wife had her
Glaucoma appt. Saw an alert from Matt Noyes about a tornado warning.
I saw that it was the Albany, NY area and figured here we go again.
A radar indicated storm and warning and anther false alarm.
    Not so this time.

What did the SPC miss? Every year, they miss some.
What caused the sheer for this event?

TK, any thoughts on why this was missed?

To be fair, within the Severe Thunderstorm Watch, the SPC DID say
“Low” risk of tornadoes. They did not say “NO” risk. They did say “Very LOW”
risk for F2 and above tornadoes. Even for that, it was not “NO RISK”.

My early morning grumblings for today as I prepare for not one, but 2 meetings!!!

I’ll be grouch the rest of the day!!! Wait a minute, I’m a grouch ALL the time. 😆

    Have a great day all!

  10. How about this for my present, 6 laps in a Ferrari at the NH motor speedway and then overnight at Mohegan sun!! I can’t believe I get 6 laps on a race track!!!

  11. Current ocean temperatures out there are now sitting at:

    52.9

In a bad year I can remember it being as LOW as 46 Degrees on Memorial Day.

So, all things being considered, I think we are doing OK this year. 😀

    1. And that coupled with the warm Wather Anomaly just to our South (pointed out by Tom), could spell trouble later this Summer. We shall see.

  12. Good morning, happy Memorial Day, partly to mostly cloudy
I already like the guys on eei 10-2 better than they had. 🙂
    Good day everyone 🙂

      1. Merloni should be on a show that strictly talk just baseball imo, maybe behind the scenes in redsox idk

      2. Merloni is supposed to be on the show. He’s the anchor as far
as I’m concerned. AND he know far more than just baseball.

  13. Thank you, OS, John, Tom – Thank you everyone. Smiles are really important and you all make me smile from ear to ear !!

    1. How is it looking around noon – we were heading to Belmont for a picnic but can switch it to Sunday if it is better. Thank you TK!

      1. So far the morning and midday look ok but computers tend to under forecast the speed of NW flow systems. Stay tuned.

        1. Thanks TK – I always watch as the forecast progresses! It is good information for now, though.

    2. When you say trouble, do you mean just RAIN? OR do you mean
TROUBLE!! as a Severe Storm potential. TK you’ve got some splaining to do!

        1. Ah, thank you. So it is a severe storm threat.

With SW surface winds and NW upper flow, there are
some “potential” ingredients. Too early to get alarmed, but those are NOT good conditions for New England.

  14. Just turned on weei at lunch to see whos on there today. I listened for about 10 seconds and switched it off. Totally un-listenable. That guy is horrible IMO. I love me some boston accent but this is guy is annoyingly over the top.

  15. What else would u expect after a few peeks of sun, and just in time for the long awaited Memorial Day weekend cookouts, wa wa wa sorry drizzle showery cloudy, more movie time. We r thinking of changing plans and heading out of town for the weekend, I can’t take a crappy Memorial Day weekend, good day everyone

    1. What r u talking about? Most of it is going to be decent, especially in your area. 😛

  16. I know the NWS has hoisted a flood watch for western areas.

I wonder if another flood watch or a flood advisory needs to go up for central NH? Heavy showers in central NH seem to be moving VERY slowly.

Also, central MA, I wonder if something heavy is about to pop up there? Looks like an area of convergence on radar.

We always enjoy the sound of rain on the top of the camper. Have a nice weekend all !! Hope to be out before the potential NW flow storms arrive Monday.

  17. Perhaps I’m reading everything wrong, but it looks like the bigger weather
threat around these parts is Sunday and not Monday. Monday looks to be an outbreak
    in the upper Mid-West.

    What am I missing?

  18. This Is just DUCKY!)@#*!(@*#(!*@(#*(!@*#()!*@
    From the NWS:

IS THIS LATE MAY OR EARLY MARCH? PERSISTENT LOWER HEIGHTS ACROSS
GREENLAND STRENGTHEN THE NORTH-ATLANTIC RIDGE. AS SUCH THE LONGWAVE PATTERN BUCKLES. SUBSEQUENTLY TROUGHING IS PREFERRED ALONG THE W- PERIPHERY OF WHICH DISTURBANCES DIG SOUTHWARD RESULTING IN THE CONTINUANCE OF COOLER WET WEATHER ACROSS A MAJORITY OF THE NE-CONUS AGAINST RIDGING THROUGH THE MIDWEST AHEAD OF THE MIGRATING LOW INTO THE CENTRAL CONUS. THIS PATTERN MAY LINGER FOR AWHILE INTO THE START OF SUMMER.

    What????? Until June 21st?????????????!)@#(!@(#(!(@#)(!@#()!(@#)(!@#()(@#

  19. Meteor shower tonight, called the Camelopardalids. Probably best seen somewhere in CA. Cloudy here, but NASA’s website will host a live chat from 11 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. EDT Saturday, as well as offering a live view of the skies over Huntsville, Alabama.

  20. The blog has been updated!
Have a great weekend everyone and please remember all those who have served and sacrificed to allow us freedom.
