Weekend Update (Part 2)

11:09AM

Sunday morning! A cold front is coming through without much fanfare, just variable cloudiness and a few sprinkles if they even reached the ground. The front will take several more hours to settle through southeastern MA and RI so there may be a few pop up showers and thunderstorms in these areas this afternoon. To the north, other than some cloudiness at times, I’m not expecting that much. We’ll watch for a quick shower to pop up here as well but I don’t really think it’s going to happen. By tonight, a fresh supply of cool and dry air will be settling into all areas from the north.

Monday looks great with sunshine and a few clouds as high pressure builds over the region and a weak secondary front tries to push down from the north. This high pressure area should hold for Tuesday which also looks great.

The period from Wednesday through Saturday is tougher, not only because it’s further out in time but because we’ll be trying to figure out what happens with a string of low pressure areas to the southwest and south of New England while high pressure tries to rebuild north of the region. So for now, this is a low confidence forecast and leaning on the pessimistic side (sorry!).

  1. Tk Many thanks, but you really need to work on the forecast for next weekend.
Right now it is NOT acceptable. πŸ˜€

    1. I’ll see what I can do. πŸ˜‰

At least it’s “low confidence” at this point. πŸ™‚

  2. YUCK,

If one looks at the CMC, it calls for off and on rain from FRIDAY ALL THE WAY THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING!_@#*)!*@#()*!(*)@#()!*)@(#*)(!*@#

      1. Good for your lawn coastal. Next weekend or Labor Day weekend I’m going to start doing some patch work as this is the best part of the year coming up for planting and lawn work .

  3. Reminder. Get together this Thursday 7:30 at JP licks at legacy place in dedham. I will be wearing my skins hat so you can’t miss me!!

      1. Sorry I sent it out a month ago. Very difficult to get everyone at one date but we can do another one during our winter blitz of parades of 6+ inch storms πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  4. I’m not sure I get the NWS today.
They sent out info earlier talking about isolated pop up showers, yet in their zone forecast they have “showers likely” until 5PM for the zone which includes southeastern Middlesex County, with a chance running at 70%. ???

  5. Repost

    Today’s (easier) AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

What type of cloud produces lightning?
    A. Cumulonimbus
    B. Altostratus
    C. Nimbostratus
    D. Mammatus

    Answer later today.

  6. Thanks, TK.

Longshot, my answer is A. Seems right but the last quiz I really screwed up.

They sky is certainly picturesque today – lots of dark and light clouds with patches of blue and some sun. I was in Holliston and it seemed sunnier to the south than up here to the north in Sudbury.

    1. Hi rainshine. I saw that there will be fireworks in Sudbury sept 6. I think at Lincoln Sudbury school. We will try to figure where we can view from car. I don’t recall fireworks in Sudbury for maybe decades.

      1. Yes, my husband tells me it’s the 376th anniversary of the town of Sudbury and there will be various events in the next few wks, I will have to look up all the events and if you want I will let you know what’s going on.

  7. Answer to Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

What type of cloud produces lightning?
    A. Cumulonimbus
    B. Altostratus
    C. Nimbostratus
    D. Mammatus

    The correct answer is A.

  8. Another great stretch of summer weather. I wish every summer could be like this one.
Here is how I would rank the seasons with one being my favorite and four being least favorite.
    1. Winter – I love the snow and the cold
    2. Fall – I love those cool crisp autumn days as well as the beautiful display of fall colors
    3. Spring – Flowers start to come back to life and the grass turns green
    4. Summer – If it wasn’t for the heat and humidity it would not be ranked fourth. If we keep having summers like this I will have to move summer up on the list.
How would you rank the seasons and what do you like about each of them???

    1. My Ranking:

      1. SUMMER
      2. WINTER
      3. AUTUMN
      4. SPRING (This is hands down the absolutely worst season possible here in
      Coastal New England.)

      πŸ˜€

      1. Mine is fall, summer and then spring, I will not mention the other word, nobody is ready for that, well maybe a few people here on blog, I keep hearing this winter will be milder and less snowier than average, great news!! Good day everyone πŸ™‚

        1. From what TK is hinting at, if you move to SC, you may run into a snowier than normal winter πŸ˜‰

          1. I think tk will only be 1/2 right on his early guess. I can see the cold part working out but I think we will have a tough winter. I propose to the group a November 17th deadline for winter forcast.

      2. I think most new englanders would say they dislike winter the most. This blog may be different but in the general population it would be a different result πŸ™‚

    2. I’ll split seasons although I like them all because what they offer is unique

      All of Fall
      All of winter
      late Spring
      early summer
      late summer
      early spring
      mid-summer

      1. I like that πŸ™‚ Pretty much matches mine. Just goes to show how awesome New England is, we have 7 seasons!

  9. Got back a bit late from a race in NH. Update never happened. It will this afternoon. πŸ™‚

    Fall
    Summer
    Winter
    Spring

  10. I am kind of like Vicki in that I like every season for what they offer. That is why I am a bit disappointed in this summer not having at least 1 heat wave – and I know a lot of people disagree with me. But a heat wave lasting just the typical few days then a summer similar to what we have been having. In general, my favorite seasons:

    Autumn
    Summer
    Winter
    Spring

    1. Happy for u.

I’m sorry, but SPRING blows chunks! It is disgusting.
I hate it with a passion I cannot describe. I love the other
3 seasons, and for that reason, I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. πŸ˜€

      1. I agree with you OS. I suspect though that those who live outside of 495 might think differently about spring. For us here in Boston it is mostly about wind direction. πŸ˜€

    2. Wait – I thought we established there were six………..please do not tell me I have to go back to the drawing board. It was hard for me to come up with an order πŸ˜‰

  11. Winter
    Fall
    Summer
    Spring

Spring vs. Summer is a tough call for me…chilly winds off the ocean vs. HHH

  12. Now that fall is in the air and apples are on the trees…..anyone who goes to Honey Pot in Stow ….they have a new rule. Only a family of 3 can buy the $16.00 bag. If you have four (even if #4 is one year old), you must buy the $24.00 bag.

Ahhhh corporate greed at its finest πŸ™‚

    1. Now that makes perfect sense. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Who makes these decisions?????????????????????????????????

If they are that worried, then make ALL family bags $20 and be done with it.

If it were me, I’d find another apple farm.

      1. Love Honey Pot, but it has gotten waaaay too big for its own good for my liking. This might be the year I go someplace else. There are plenty of good orchards around.

      2. My kids go there all of the time but will not be going any more. I stopped last year because it was getting too commercial.

        1. You guys are all funny, your not going to go back bc it’s to commercial, or to big. You guys hate big companies, you guys hate people that enlarge there homes, it’s a free country, everyone should be able to do what they want inside responsible legitimate regulations. Stop hating on people that you’ve supported for so long. Tell them let them know, give them a chance. That’s all, no disrespect intended.

          1. No disrespect…….Charlie, you understand that by saying “no disrespect intended” that it does not erase the blatant disrespect in your comment……right?

  13. this summer …….. i hated it to use a good word for what i thought about it. way to cool for my liking wish there were more high 80s and 90s. we only had 3 or 4 days of 90 degrees+ My pool barly stayed above 75 in july!! and is in the 60s already in august!!. Nights are way to cool this is what i think about mid to late september.

    I split the season.
    early summer. mid june -july
    late summer august-mid september
    fall. mid september-october
    MUD SEASON November-mid december
winter / late december-febuary (snow season)
Spring brown/mud season march through april can still get snow πŸ˜‰

  14. I have been enjoying reading everyone’s rankings of the seasons. It looks like spring is the least favorite with summer and fall coming in at the top. I give the slight edge to winter but I really do love both the fall and winter.
If anyone did not respond yet ranking the season’s I would love to read your rankings and why you ranked them.

  15. Well, it appears hints of a “warmup” in the long range have been a tease.

The surface high over the Maritimes later in the week will keep cool NE surface winds going, while there are actually some high 500mb heights ……. and then ……. the EURO’s day 9-10 outlook is back to western ridge, eastern trof.

  16. If John can do it with his most favorite season, then so shall I. πŸ™‚

    1. Winter
    2. Winter
    3. Winter
    4. Winter

  17. I believe that there was a character on the old Howdy Doody Show named “Princess Summerfallwinterspring”. The show ended the year I was born in 1960 but the show was briefly revived in the mid-1970s.

Perhaps OS or Vicki or other “old timers” here can verify this character? πŸ˜‰

      1. I remember her – although I would not have if you hadn’t mentioned it, Philip!!! Thanks for the link OS!

  18. I finally updated the blog, and it’s a cheap one. Let’s put it this way – you won’t fall asleep reading it. It’s just not long enough. πŸ˜‰
