Late Summertime

10:45PM

Finally a warm stretch this month. The warmest days will be Tuesday and Wednesday as high pressure as at its most extensive over southeastern New England. A surface cold front will traverse the region from northwest to southeast Wednesday night, but probably lacking any shower and thunderstorm activity (slight chance).Β  This timing is a little faster than the early Thursday I expected before. This means that Thursday’s weather will be a little less warm and humid than the next 2 days will be. But by late week some of that warmth and humidity will try to return as high pressure again is south and southeast of the region. The next front approaches when we get to Labor Day Weekend and its timing is uncertain. But at this point I believe its will make a run through the area early Sunday, stalling to the south of the region, and allowing a wave of low pressure to approach with a risk of rain for the holiday itself on Monday, which is also the first day of September.

Tropical Storm Cristobal will track north then turn northeast, passing northwest of Bermuda as a minimal hurricane by early Wednesday, before accelerating into the waters southeast to east of the Canadian Maritime Provinces late in the week. Cristobal will have no direct impact on the US East Coast, other than some increased ocean swells late this week.

  1. Thanks TK! Love your title. It’s simple, but I just love the feel of it. And I love how it’s getting warmer this coming week….

  2. Tk have fun at water country. My wife, son and a bunch of his friends spent the day there yesterday and had a blast, enjoy.

  3. NWS’s updated long range calls for above normal temps through the end of 2014. Cooling trend in early 2015 followed by heat late Spring and Summer of 2015.

    1. Interesting. I was a bit upset for him when Eric was brought in as chief met but darned if that wasn’t the best decision BZ made in a long time. I do like Todd and wish him very well.

      1. Oh I do wish him well, however, honestly, I didn’t care for his forecasting at all. His on air personality was just fine, although he would NEVER discuss a blown forecast. Just the way I see it. Btw, Mrs. OS agrees completely.

Good luck to him up in Portland.

        Who will be replacing him?

          1. Well, who replaces her?

            Was Danielle the weekend morning/noon
            person?

            I haven’t a clue. I don’t care for her style either.

The 2 woman forecasters I liked were
Mish Michaels and J. C. Monahan. They were good and their presentations were excellent.

Danielle Niles, Not so much imho. πŸ˜€

  4. Thanks TK !

Cristobal : On satellite, another awful looking hurricane (just like Bertha)

00z GFS : there is a signal there for something coming out of the tropics and into the SE US (and its not way out at 384 hrs)

SE Mass : should be some impressive diurnal temp rises today, maybe nearly 40F as it got down to near 50F under localized radiational cooling.

    1. Euro does NOT have it. GFS hints at something, but is extremely weak and it
      doesn’t amount to anything. πŸ˜€

    2. It may have a decent idea that something will be around that area but it will probably occur later than that by a few days. Can’t ignore the pattern is a little better to get stuff nearer to (not necessarily on) the East Coast if it forms.

      1. Thanks TK.

You thoughts on the Canadian’s ability to sniff out tropical
systems early? It seems a bit uncanny.

Has the Canadian upgrade moved it up on the depth chart of
        computer models????

        1. Top 3. I’m not sure why it is better as tropical detection. Something I will look into. πŸ™‚

  5. Thanks, TK. And enjoy your day at water country!

I am enjoying these summery days right now – although the shortness of daylight hours makes it a bit less summery. In any case, it is nice to have a little HHH and then go back to some cooler, drier weather again. I believe we will still have a few more very warm, sunny and humid days before autumn really sets in.

    1. We do. I believe September is going to be above average in the tempature. I also am guessing we get a heat wave early month.

    1. Hmmm, interesting stat JJ, thanks! I’m not sure the actual historical numbers, but perception tells me years with few tropical systems end up with more reaching hurricane status (some major) whereas years with many more than average, it seems less form into hurricanes and/or less intense hurricanes.

        1. Not even the CMC does anything with that thing
in the Gulf. You saw what it does with the middle one.

Now, that other one off the coast of Africa…
Too early to see what the CMC does with it, but it could
be the one in the middle of this chart?

          http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/gem/2014082600/gem_mslp_wind_atltropics_41.png

That would be the beginnings of development only.

On the other hand, the GFS takes that wave off of
Africa and propels it almost to EUROPE!!

            1. We know it’s 16 days out there, but the GFS has a 966MB low in the far North Atlantic. That would be pretty impressive should that actually come to be. πŸ˜€

  6. The only issue I have with Eric is that on those quick news segments during commercial breaks he will say something like “We are watching a storm coming up the East Coast!!” even though we all know better that the storm is going well OTS. He said it last night regarding Christobal during one of those breaks towards the end of “Under The Dome” and he has done it other times in the past as well.

If a storm is clearly going well OTS, he shouldn’t use the term “up the East Coast” IMO since to me it implies that the storm is destined to strike SNE. Someone who hasn’t been monitoring forecasts in a while could think that. Although I suppose the station doesn’t mind since it could get more people watching at 11:00 that perhaps normally wouldn’t be tuning in.

No big deal…just my opinion. πŸ™‚

    1. I suppose. I wonder IF that is management pressure.
They do a similar thing with sports. I certainly can live with it, giving
what we DO get from Eric. πŸ˜€

      1. I think it just might be Eric’s style to some extent as well as management pressure because I don’t recall any of the other WBZ mets using that term “up the East Coast” for any storm coming even remotely close. No big deal…I will just take it with a grain of salt during those times I am not privvy to most recent forecasts. πŸ˜‰

        1. Even Barry has been making weather predictions early which is definitely not his style. I suspect it is a new approach by BZ.

      2. I’d bet every cent I have that it is management pressure…..same thing I’ve been saying about WHDH

          1. They all do it, Ace. I’ve been posting for a long time on BZ blogs. They will discuss the blogs on air and they never report accurately. They twist the comments (and numbers) literally to suit themselves. I pointed it out with hard facts repeatedly way back when BZ had the Conversation Nation blog. They ignored me. I stopped watching. Lately a comment on the blogs was that they are still doing that.

So for all intents and purposes, BZ is FAR worse than HDH

            1. Oh i def agree all stations do it to some extent. If BZ does it as much as 7, they hide it better. I guess for me, its more the feel and look of 7 that gives off a sense of sensationalism and hype. BZ has a cleaner more simplistic look to it. I do however hate BZ’s website and all CBS websites for that matter. They are littered with ads and poor online reporting with no follow-up.

              1. I agree re the layout of WHDH – I know a met that doesn’t like it either. And the constant comment “You heard it here first….” on 7 drives me to drink….or perhaps that is an excuse πŸ˜‰ It just don’t like blatant lies. I know they all twist the news but I just saw it more on BZ. Maybe that is why 7 never wanted blogs πŸ˜†

  7. Regarding Todd’s leaving WBZ, I wish him the best and he does seem like a nice person and all, however I do remember when he was on the 11:00 pm newscast (potential Chief Meteorologist slot) there would be some very legitimate questions on the WBZ blog and he never answered a single one from what I could tell. I understand the trolls can be a real pain, but when the few good questions are posted, the met on duty should answer as many as possible. Eric does that and handles the trolls in his own way as well. πŸ˜‰

    1. His technical knowledge was inferior to the likes of Barry and Eric which is why I think he didn’t entertain blog questions. As nice as he was, he was really just one of the many revolving door TV mets who are hired to deliver the weather and nothing more. I could be totally wrong on that, but it was the persona he gave off whenever on air. He will be somewhat sheltered in Portland as a chief met and not much will be demanded of him like in a bigger market such as Boston. With that said, I am happy for him and wish him the best of luck.

    2. Philip I can’t help but wonder if it was BZ police not to answer. Barry didn’t either. It seems it all changed with Eric and I love it. Eric also gives it right back to the trolls which I love even more πŸ™‚

  8. At least in Portland ME, Todd won’t have to worry about the rain/snow line moving much further north than the MA/NH seacoast in terms of forecasting. πŸ™‚

  9. As OS and others pointed out, the tropics are showing developments and possibilities. What bothers me is that some of these may have a little better shot at nearing the east coast than I originally thought.

  10. The Pats O-line was already a mess, and now they get rid of their best guy for an undrafted TE?? Stoooopid!

    1. Punishment for the hold out?
Makes no sense whatsoever! What the bleep is going on down there??????

      1. Belichick has done horse bleep like that before. He did it with Seymore a couple years after he held out for more money. One can argue he did it with Welker last year. If its punishment, than Belichick is a bigger ass than i thought. To make ur team worse for pride? Ridiculous. If they were getting a young talented O-lineman in exchange, than maybe i could get behind this. But for a nobody TE??

        1. Makes me think that Gronk is having problems
and may not return for awhile if ever?????????

My wife thinks he’s all done.

          We shall see.

          1. If it were any other position @ 32 years old I’d say ok.maybe it’s time. But O Linemen generally have a longer lifespan in the NFL than most other positions. I think OS’ wife may be right about Gronk. Brady must be pisssssed off.

            1. from ESPN
“New England conversely has extensive depth on its offensive line — especially at guard, where Dan Connolly and Marcus Cannon figure to be the favorites to start.”

            2. I just wish Brady voiced his displeasure more. Maybe he does behind closed doors, who knows. But with many of the questionable decisions Belichick has made since the last super bowl victory negatively affecting Brady, he should be pissed and i wish we saw that publicly. Maybe things would have been different around there and we might have won more super bowls.

              1. Totally agree.

I’d be so upset with Bill that I would go to the media with it.
Wonder what he says to Kraft???

  11. Cooler than yesterday by a few degrees but still just as lovely. No AC needed. The house with the ceiling fans is very comfy. May be a different story when the sun starts beating in the front window this pm.

    1. Just hit 85 here. Feels really nice actually. If it doesnt get warmer for the rest of the day, we will hit the lower end of the high temp range for today. Will tomorrow be warmer? Will we make a legit run at 90?

  12. Bill thinks he’s the smartest, he’s done well with his deals but this is a head scratcher. Tim Wright has good skills but tells me they are worried big time about Gronk. Don’t ask Charlie bc he’s too much of a fan. Will rationalize the deal I matter what.

    1. Pats are the best team ever! Belichick is the best coach in the league! I’m satisfied with winning the crappy AFC east and losing in the AFC championship! Ok, heading to CBS Scene for dinner, see ya! πŸ™‚

      1. Charlie, that’s enough!!!! πŸ˜†

I guess we’re going to see Jimmy Garoppolo Sooner rather
than later as Brady goes down in a heap when one of the good for nothing linemen misses his block.

  13. How is it that trades can be so lopsided in the NFL. Only in the NFL can a team trade a 6-time pro bowler and the best lineman on the team for a less than average TE and 4th round pick (which they will trade for two 6 rounders)

  14. Pretty STIFF sea breeze at Logan:

  15. Tim wright is a very similar player to Aron Hernandez. I think it’s a decent trade but why do you need a TE with Gronk. We shall see.

    1. What IF Gronk can’t play? That is the $64,000 question OR with inflation
      the $1,000,000 question.

    2. IF Gronk can play and if this new guy IS like Hernandez, then
HOLY CRAP BATMAN what an offense. The problem is, what about
the HOLE in the line left behind by Mankins??? Can it adequately be filled?

      That is the real question.

      I guess we’ll find out.

I just wonder IF something isn’t going for which we are not aware?

Has Bill seen something in the pre-season that tells him that Mankins is
fast approaching the end of the line so he dealt him while he could still get something in return?

I “think” we’ll KNOW by the end of the season, IF not sooner. πŸ˜€

      1. I had to wait until my SIL arrived home since I don’t have his knowledge. He said good trade. Wright was excellent last year and it frees up money. Mankins is good but tradable. He has no trouble dissing bellichick so I’m not unhappy. Time will tell

  16. Here’s some happy HorseS**T from BILL BELICHICK. I guess he wants us
to keep drinking the cool aide. πŸ˜† πŸ‘Ώ 😈 πŸ‘Ώ :lol

β€œΒ€ΒœLogan Mankins is everything we would ever want in a football player. It is hard to imagine a better player at his position, a tougher competitor or a person to represent our program. He is one of the all-time great Patriots and the best guard I ever coached. Logan brought a quiet but unmistakable presence and leadership that will be impossible to duplicate. Unfortunately, this is the time of year when difficult decisions have to be made β€” and this is one of the most difficult we will ever make β€” but like every other decision it was made for what we feel is in the best interests of the team.”

  17. So is this going to be the new WBZ met on air schedule come September??

Danielle Niles – weekday mornings and noon
    Eric Fisher – weeknights at 5, 6 and 11
Barry Burbank – weekends and fill-in for Danielle/Eric vacations πŸ˜€

  18. Pats needed another TE because Gronk is too vulnerable. The Pats are not as quite as “TE Happy” as they used to be, but two good TEs can make it difficult for the opponents. I do not like the loss of Mankins. There are times when the Pats have made moves that are head scatchers. Losing Welker and Woodhead at the same time or letting Taqib go, etc. Mankins filled a big position on the line. Someone can always throw some words together and use a lot of tortured logic to justify any trade, but as one coach said a long time ago, some of the best trades are the ones you don’t make. I hope the Mankins trade does not fall into that bucket.

    1. Ahhhh but words can be thrown together to dislike a trade as well. In the long run we just do not know the details. I figure it is my team and win, lose or draw I will support it. I have several values that were drilled into me from the time I was old enough to understand and in good part define me. That being said, it works for me but there are so many things that work for every single other person. It’s what makes life great πŸ™‚

  19. 72 and a great summer feel. Was talking to multiple folks from VA area north today. All agree this is the best summer in their memory.

    1. Most of them. πŸ™‚
I love HHH, but I’m not disappointed with Summer. I have loved this too. πŸ™‚
