Edging

11:31PM

Southeastern New England will sit on the edge of a couple waves of low pressure through Wednesday, close enough for some cloudiness but rain should remain mostly offshore. The air flow between low pressure to the south and high pressure to the north will be easterly, and may bring in enough low level moisture for some low clouds and perhaps some drizzle for a time Tuesday night or early Wednesday. By Thursday, we’ll get rid of those lows and be in a southerly flow ahead of an approaching cold front. Current timing suggests this front will come through early Friday with a threat of showers, then introduce a drier and cool air mass for the weekend followed by a slight warm-up heading into early next week.

Astronomically high tides associated with the Full Harvest Moon may be enhanced by the easterly flow through Tuesday night, resulting in some minor coastal flooding in areas prone to it.

  1. I like this clean font and look, but it’s a bit small. Was also looking forward to another color experiment! I also like how the headings on the right – Recent Comments, Recent Posts, Archives, Categories, etc. Have the nice small, bold, capital letters. I do miss the seasonally appropriate picture on the top though. Nice job, TK, can’t wait to see what other designs you have in store for us!

  2. One other thing I noticed when I was going through the previous post, this particular theme denotes the Post Author whenever TK makes a post. I like that A LOT, because sometimes, especially when there are major weather events, I find myself scrolling to find his thoughts in the midst of the group discussion, and this would make things a lot easier. I think Vicki, OS, Hadi, heck – everyone would appreciate that! 🙂

  3. Wow TK – I don’t think we are in Kansas any more !!!

I like this fun. I definitely like the “blog author” being identified and easy to find. I also like the clean font and smaller font size. I drive everyone I know crazy who uses my computer because I prefer small font size. Nice spacing also. The name indent will take some getting used to and the spacing between comments. Being conservative (Hadi, please stop laughing), I also like the quiet colors. I suspect many might like more color.

As I said, very fun. TK, are you experimenting on your own?

    1. Actually, as I scroll through, I find the indented names make it easy to see who has commented. It may take a bit of use to be able to differentiate the “replies” to a specific person. However, I don’t think we use those too often.

      1. I’m trying to get rid of my gravatar. I think it messes with the page look. It may take more time for me to figure out before I head out this morning. Sorry

        1. Vicki, the gravitar looks good mobile, but not sure about on the computer yet. People without gravitars look like theres something missing next to their names

            1. Its gone now on mobile and laptop. I see what everyone means about the smallish font, its only when ur typing entries though so its not too bad. Cora is an amazing dog! Shes already learning commands and shes very obedient for a puppy. She hasnt left my side though and im worried how she will be when i have to go back to work next week. I live 5 mins from work and plan to come home multiple times a day but i still worry about leaving her. I left for 2 mins to take out the trash this morning and she went nuts

              1. You are her new “liter mate” Hopefully, you can wean her before next week. And she is quite young to understand commands — great sign. They are very intelligent dogs and all of the Labs I’ve known love to please.

  4. Thanks, TK.

I am seeing no colors at all on my pc. All I see is the text – off to the sides is just a light gray. Could be my pc which is not in good shape – or the age of my computer, I don’t know. We will be looking at various computers today and maybe online.

What colors/or what should I be seeing that’s new on the blog? I see the text and the new indentations.

  5. NOPE, this isn’t going to cut it.
Give me back the old format.

I’m too old to be staring at this SMALL FONT!

And it is not black, it is grey. Very very very difficult to read.

    Those are my thoughts.

    1. C’mon,

This format is gross!!! I can’t be the only one that feels this way?????????????????????????

  6. Okay my comment went through. Third time is the charm. I am not impressed with the thunderstorm POTENTIAL for Thursday. Best instability looks to be in the Mid Atlantic.
SPC does place far western SNE in 5% general thunderstorm outlook for Thursday.

  7. Damn spam issue!

I will be trying out other things and styles but from my laptop not my phone. And of course tweaking some other issues.

2 more layout trials coming before I get another new batch. The blog will end up with a new look. The old one has overstayed its welcome.

  8. I will agree with OS about the small font and the color of the text. It’s not very sharp, like a dark grayish color. Otherwise, I like the crisp clean look. I like the page border color, maybe just a touch darker in the same color. The names being indented is throwing me off a bit too and its difficult to see replies and figure out which reply goes where. Is there any way to put next to the reply button, “reply to xxx,” then after the reply say who the reply is to to better define? TK, i feel bad critiquing the site changes but im sure u will appreciate some constructive criticism from your users 🙂

  9. TK, a lot of empty space too. It will make the entire page much longer esp when we get into more interesting weather with a lot more posts to scroll through. Def recommend less spacing between the names and the posts as well as between posts. Maybe the reply button directly after the ending of each post?

    1. I agree it’s good to try things out but this one I don’t like. He guys with this one though I can’t misspell lol.

  10. I don’t like the new theme at all to the blog and I am also having difficutly scrolling up and down and I don’t believe it is my computer having problems. Yes, try something else TK. Thanks.

    1. ok – that worked. Only colors I see are gray borders and white background May have a new computer tomorrow.

  11. I like changes but not liking this format on mobile. I need to check it out on desktop. I am sure TK is doing his best to get a good set up.

  12. This one has some potential. Would def take some getting used to, but i dont hate it. TK, im guessing u can’t edit specific things within these new formats? This set-up and the last had some good stuff and they would be perfect with some minor tweating

    1. There may be SOME things I can. I haven’t gone too deep into the functions of each one yet. I’m just tossing them out here to get an idea to start.

There are also a bunch more themes that I can get if none of these win grand approval. And of course I can always default back to what is called “Twenty-Ten” or the theme you are all used to seeing since the blog started. 🙂

    1. Ok so this one gets approval from the tough critic, OS. 😉

I still have others to come, but I’ll leave this one up for a while so most people can see it. 🙂

  13. Wow, different look for sure. Nice, TK.

What’s new, I was wrong about there not being summer-like heat. We definitely had some. I believe there were 3 days above 90. I stand corrected.

Nice shot from Nunavut where our Northern friends are enjoying a `fall-like’ sunny day (well, it’s in the 40s and sunny). Frost ahead, though. See forecast below webcam photo. And quite soon the daytime temp will no longer go above 32F.

    1. The Names are OK, Perhaps you can use a larger font and make them bold.

This format looks really nice. Many thanks for your hard work.

  14. Looks better. I do miss the the recent names that were on the right before. This one is way better than than last one.

  15. I’m seeing some people’s names are getting cut off, like JimmyJames, the s goes into another line 🙁 I think I echo others when I say that once people start ramping up on the blog and big discussions happen, I’m concerned that we’ll be scrolling a lot because this (Autumn circles) theme condenses the text and the margins are so wide. Interesting that this theme differentiates the blog author with a star. Also seeing maybe some auto-correct? Anyone else?

  16. I have difficulty scrolling up and down with my arrows when I stop to read a comment. The scrolling function literally gets “stuck” in place and have to start over again.

Does anyone else have this problem? 🙁

TK, if possible please bring the old blog appearances back. I don’t want to be a whiner it is just that I never like too many changes to things in general especially when I am already comfortable with the status quo. It is just the way I am.

  17. This format is definitely better than the one this morning TK, but not sure if I like it more than the original. Keep experimenting though! Maybe make the names and font in general a little bigger or bolder if you can and I agree with Flowergirl that there’s a lot of empty space, the margins are quite tight. Would make for a very long page when we’ve got the Blizzard of 2015 on the way 🙂

  18. Love the names on their own and the colors and fall feel.
I don’t like not having the list of recent commenters on the top right. It was an easy way to know if there are new comments and was one of my favorite features of the original blog. Other than that and of the three…or is it four….this is my favorite. It pops. Darn I dislike that saying but it fits

  19. Another wild, colorful sunset in progress. The high clouds and some stratus are orange, red, yellow ….. etc.

  20. New layout doesn’t work for me on my phone. I use to be able to see the most recent comments on the top right. Now you have to scroll down to the bottom. That and the look makes it a unappealling change.

    1. Coastal. Don’t know what kind of phone you have. Your comment prompted me to look on mine…thanks. The poster’s name appears above and not beside comment on my phone. The contrasting color makes it much easier to see poster’s name. I absolutely agree…specifically on phone with small screen…names of last few posters are far, far better at top

      1. Its the scrolling you have to do to reach the latest comments. There will be lots of sore thumbs come winter time.

  21. Some bugs maybe to work on within the site, but nothing major at all. I like the site for sure. Recommended changes.

    1) Rotate the banners to be seasonal. It has fall colors now which is great.
    2) Names on left need a larger type size.
    3) Expand the margins. It would allow more comments to be seen at once.
    4) Might be room in this version to add a picture below our names.

Overall good change. Thank you Mr. Woodshill Weather.

    1. Yes they are, but it would be much more convenient if available somewhere
near the top or the top side so as Vicki says. one can readily see what the new
      posts are.

Doesn’t really matter to me. I can tell my scrolling or checking the number of
      posts. 😀

    2. Thanks longshot and they are. But the problem still exists. I have to scroll to bottom to see if there are new posts.

  22. Found this from Matt Noyes:

Terribly sad to see a New England lightning death. It’s so easy to underestimate how far away lightning can strike (10 miles from the storm), and how fast the storm is closing in. In recent years, while researching lightning deaths, I realized two overwhelming facts: 1) there is no safe place outside, and 2) there is a huge component of bad luck involved, but respecting #1 nearly always mitigates the risk of #2. My thoughts and sympathy are with the family and friends of this victim, and my hope is that her death will not have been in vain – that we will all increase caution and take precautions when threatening weather approaches. http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2014/09/ipswich_lightning_strike_victim_dies

  23. Wow! didn’t expect this when I opened WHW blog. Nice graphics at top.
It feels like it’s a little muggy to me tonight? Are dew points on the rise over the next few days?

  24. Well we have quite a split on this version.

This is sure going to be an interesting process. It’s nearly time to bring WHW to the next level, and this is just the beginning.

I will say there are things I like and thinks I hate about this version, which is Twenty-Thirteen by the way.

I don’t really like having that stuff at the bottom, so I agree with coastal there.

Anyway I am going to shift this to Twenty-Fourteen in a while when I update the blog, and we’ll see what the opinion on that is.

  25. Little bit of mist/sprinkles near the coast here.

I also noticed this morning what Shotime pointed out last evening, its gotten humid out !! I havent looked at an ob as I type, but I’d guess Marshfield’s temp and dewpoint might be in the low-mid 60s.

  26. Well, the 0z GFS is certainly not too keen on this coming Sat night/Sunday morning, but I dont think the EURO agrees.

  27. From my mobile device having User handles on the left takes up space and makes it harder to read the comment as the text is either too small and if I zoom in I need to scroll to the right.

  28. Hmmm

I wonder IF it isn’t time for a Mobile APP for the blog.
Does Word Press offer that for Apple and Android?
Probably not, but it would be awesome!! 😀

    1. I’m trying to figure out why some can’t use it on their devices. What doesn’t work? Mine seem to be fine. I’m using my iPad now but will try my phone next

    1. Yes, seeing some too !! I forgot where I saw it, but read an article recently that the northeast is set up for a spectacular foliage season.

  29. Cut Bank, MT :

    33F with light snow

September 10th, ah … that would not work for me.

Love the first snow, but also like it sometime in late Nov – early Dec.

    1. I’m using my phone and it is fine. Scrolling down is a bit of a pain but only cause I’m not used to it. In time it won’t bother me at all. I def like the look better than the old and that isn’t to say I didn’t like the old. It was just……well…old 🙂

  30. The scrolling function up and down still gets “stuck” if I stop to take a look at a particular comment along the way. I guess my computer is the problem with newer websites? MSN has a new look to their website and it does the same thing regarding scrolling. All other sites I normally use are fine…so far.

TK – When you get a chance, can you mention it to your techno geeks? I am now wondering if newer website formats have scrolling issues with certain computers. I am probably the only person on earth with this but ask them anyway. Thanks in advance. 🙂

  31. A takeaway from the 12z GFS (generalities, no specifics) …..

IF there’s going to be an upper level low or a cutoff low in the Great Lakes coinciding with a tropical system westward bound towards the east coast, that could set up some interesting scenarios.

Looking foward to see if that trend repeats itself in the coming days …….

  32. Theme Twenty Fourteen has been activated and a new blog has been posted!

Comment on the new post please. 🙂
