The Week Ahead

5:29PM

Low pressure passing east of the southern New England and another passing northwest of the region will be on their way out by early Monday as the cold front from the low to the northwest swings eastward through the region and puts an end to the brief bout of humidity. As upper level low pressure swings through the region Monday there will be a mix of sun and clouds but the air will be mild and less humid. For the remainder of the week, a very large high pressure area will move in and sit over the Northeast, first delivering some cooler air Tuesday and Wednesday followed by a warm-up later in the week.

  1. Thanks TK. Getting a brief heavy shower right now. How do you feel about temps on the Maine coast next weekend near Portland.

    1. If high pressure sits the way I believe it will, high temps near the southern and central coast of Maine next weekend will be around 70, possibly as high as 75.

        1. We have been advertising some warm air and an East Coast ridge for many weeks, despite some cool interludes including last week and part of this week.

The overall regime is a warm one and this will go on for a while.

          1. Tk,

You crack me up. Who is this WE?

You have been advertising it for sure, but We?
Is that your weather colleagues? Is it Barry?
            Eric? Harvey?

            πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

            1. Oh you’re right.
              It was just me.
It’s only “we” if you include NWS who had it as well.
Everyone else thought Winter was underway. πŸ˜›

      1. The Pats performance today was one of the worst I’ve seen. I mean, they almost lost to the Raiders! Defense was pretty good (although Logan Ryan gets burned on just about everything thrown his way), but the offense just isn’t there this year. At least not yet. Starts with the O-line for sure.

On a weather note, glad the Charlie hole is getting some rain tonight πŸ™‚ Might be the last of it for awhile. =

  2. Thanks TK. I thought we were going to negotiate. I’m guessing this means we have to start the week now πŸ˜‰

Rain just started here as I posted our total for day

  3. Any worries this week for indoor plants that have been living outdoors for the summer? The chilly nights always come on so fast…

  4. Rain total is .68″ with 1.25″ for the month. That’s a nice little drink for the lawn! I didn’t expect that! Awesome and positive!

        1. Very nice !

A couple trips to the beach, some chilling out (not doing very much ), and watched the Pats game today.

Upper 30s Friday night, sunny and 70ish Saturday, low clouds, some fog a mild, humid breeze today with some showers late afternoon.

  5. 1. Dave Epstein joins the WBZ AccuWeather Team and will be on air on Sundays only. My bet is though that it won’t be permanent and will end up being on air more often than that but we will see. Good to have him forecasting on TV again. πŸ™‚

    2. Mike Wankum says “record heat” possible come Saturday! The only reason I don’t have much issue with that is the now lower sun angle and shorter daylight.

    3. CPC has well above normal temps for the forseeable future for most of the CONUS with the exception of the west coast surprisingly.

  6. Thanks TK! Officially switched my closet to fall clothes. That’s why we are getting the warmer weather. My closet is hooked up to the radar which is hooked up to global warming which is hooked up to the weather machine. πŸ˜‰

    1. So it’s all your fault then? You’re either about to be really famous or have to run really fast. πŸ˜‰

    2. I have to admit changing seasonal clothes ranks right up there with my least favorite things to do. And thanks to your comment, I know I can put it off at least two more weeks. Yay and thank you πŸ˜‰

  7. Wow, even astronomically ….. summer ends today.

Right on cue, both the Barrow and Kimmirut Web cams show a thick dusting of snow on the ground.

    1. Late tonight, the line is crossed, and we enter the “dark side”.

Personally, I love this as much as the light side. πŸ™‚

    2. Thanks for letting me know about the first snow up at Kimmirut. More significant snowfall is expected Wednesday. Starting next week Kimmirut may not get above freezing until May 2015.

By the way, Southern Quebec, including Quebec City, have had significant rainfall in recent weeks, and cool temperatures. I’m guessing parts of Northern Maine, same story. Even Central Vermont where my sister lives, has seen much more rainfall than we have. This suggests that foliage up there will be fine this year. SNE, on the other hand, has been very dry, particularly at or near the coast. I was driving past Charlie’s yesterday (well, Attleboro) and noticed muted colors. Of course, the half inch of rain some got in that area will help boost the spirits of the trees and leaves.

  8. Does anyone realize that the Patriots actually won that game yesterday? πŸ˜›

Have a great day. Great weather this week!

    1. Good point. The Pats are a very results-oriented team. With some exceptions, this has generally not been a team that steamrolls over opponents. They played poorly yesterday. Brady is definitely getting older. But, they’re 2 and 1, and hopefully can mend their offensive line issues soon.

    2. They may have won, but there were many signs that this team is in a state
of disarray and if they don’t remedy their problems they will be in deep doo doo.

AND of course, they did Win and for that I am very grateful. Even an UGLY win is a WIN!

However, I’d rather they steamrolled over weak opponents and played ugly against the stronger teams. πŸ˜€

    3. Does anyone realize that this is the same exact discussion we have every year and somehow this horrendous team has a great record, makes playoffs and doesn’t win the super bowl every year……….but then what team ever has πŸ˜‰

  9. I’m glad the Pats won, but really concerned about the offense and their lack of leadership and discipline. I don’t expect them to steamroll teams. The NFL is too good. Steamrolling teams doesn’t work, a la 2007. They were too 1 dimensional and in the NFL u need to be more than a one trick pony. Some people are comparing this team to ’03 and ’04 with a great defense and an offense good enough to win. I will say that is crap. The defense this year is much improved and i think is good enough to get them to the super bowl and it will only get better as the year goes on. This offense though is a mess. In ’03 and ’04 the offense was much more balanced and relied on a good running game to open up the passing game. They were dedicated to running the ball. This team, with the worst o-coordinator in the league IMO does not stick with it. They think they are better than that and think they are a passing team. They think its still 2007. Newsflash, they dont have the horses to run with the big boys in the passing game. The sooner they realize this and the sooner Brady gets his head out of his u know what, the sooner they will be on the path to the super bowl.

    1. Whoa, sorry, much longer post than i intended. Im a huge pats fan and im not down in the team, i just think they need to accept who they are and run with it (pun intended πŸ™‚ )

      1. Hmmm worst O-coordinator and Matt Patricia is questionable. Weeeee’rrrrrreeeee in trouble now πŸ˜‰ Oopps – watching too much “Facts of Life” reruns!

      2. I think Patricia is decent. I sometimes think his schemes are a bit too predictable but as a whole i think he’s done a good job. I just don’t know how much he really gets to run the defense with Belichick running the show over there

  10. The game yesterday should not have been a nail biter considering this is one of the worst teams in football but a win is a win.
Going to KC next Monday is not going to be a walk in the park.

    1. Hi JJ !! It always seems that the Pats – and many other teams – let down their guard a bit when they are playing a team that is perceived to be a bad team.

      1. Hmm, not sure I agree Vicki. I think they genuinely struggled against this team and will struggle in many other games this year.

          1. Not rooting for them to lose, but i honestly think a little humble pie and losing a few ugly games will force this team and ownership to change their ways a little bit. Being conservative with their drafting and bringing in the wrong free agents and running the team for the long term rather than short term goals isn’t working out so far for them this year.

              1. I want them to be more aggressive while they still have arguably the best QB/coach tandem in the game. They have wasted so many years trying to dink and dunk on “value” draft picks and trying to re-invent the wheel. It’s really not that difficult, you draft the best player available and i dont feel they have done that. They have not given Brady the players he needs around him to be the best he can be. Hell, they haven’t even put their own players in the best position to be successful sometimes. Its hard enough to win in the NFL but when u are in the position the Pats are in, u gotta go for it man. I’d take 2 or 3 seasons of missing the playoffs for 1 more super bowl win with Brady

        1. Pats have problems and Brady clearly knows it. I heard guys coming into the wake last night that wete st the game and heard them saying it was the ugliest game ever and worst one been through. Pats shooting themselves in the foot.

    1. The record highs for Logan on Saturday (86F/1998) and Sunday (90F/1881). It is expected to be quite warm this weekend for this time of year, but not THAT warm IMO. We will see I suppose.

  11. The casual and most recent patriot fans have been spoiled the last 15 yrs hence even a ugly win is looked at as a loss, Remember the Patriots or for that matter any other team will not be as successful as the Patriots have been the last 14yrs, we have been used to 12-4, 13-3 seasons for so long 10-6 looks terrible but so many would love to be where the Patriots have been and are. Good day everyone πŸ™‚

  12. The Pats have only won 1 more super bowl than Eli Manning and the New York Giants in the past 12 years. That really hurts especially since the Pats have had so much more talent and better coaching during that time period. Its all about the rings my man Charlie, and that’s all its ever been about

  13. Happy Monday all! My stepdaughters from Jamaica are in amazement by the trees starting to change color. This is obviously something they don’t see in Jamaica. We will be visiting a corn maze and picking some pumpkins in the near future. So much fun seeing the seasons change from the perspective of those who have never experienced it. Makes you appreciate it even more.

    1. Your comment just made me smile and gave me goosebumps. I know how much you love our area of the country, but isn’t it so much fun to see it through someone else’s eyes?

Mac’s cousin from Washington State was here Friday. She is used to the area but says that she can never get enough of New England.

  14. I am hyperventilating here I think because I’m afraid an awful lot of what Charlie is saying is absolutely true. Back to TK’s comment – does anyone know that we actually won?

And on to the weather……….I LOVE this kind of day. TK, thanks for letting the clock move on because it would have been a shame to miss weather like this πŸ˜‰

      1. Has anyone explained what Kool-aide means. It is not a phrase I am fond of because I think it is meant as an insult but I’m not sure. And Ace – I did not take it as more than kidding from you πŸ™‚

        1. Hahaha, always just kidding around Vicki. Im not 100% sure this is correct but this is how i always thought of it. Innocent unknowing little kids love sugary anything and Kool-Aid for a lot of us were one of the first drinks we all had as a kid. We would just drink it up furiously bc it was so good and sugary sweet. We didnt care what was in it. So compare that to “drinking the Kool-Aid,” its basically saying we will love anything the Pats do no matter what like a little kid drinking their Kool-Aid πŸ™‚

  15. TK – I like the BG color. It is a bit washed out but calming I think and I don’t think it would be a problem for folks at work either.

  16. Was outside. Another absolutely beautiful day. Seems like we have had a bunch of them
this year. Really nice out! ZERO complaints. πŸ˜€

      1. John – was there a hazmat evac in the Longwood area today?

And I love breezes which is one reason I enjoy the day so much πŸ™‚
