A Weekend High

3:25PM

High pressure at the surface and aloft will sit over New England this weekend, creating clear and warm weather but without humidity – perfect for outdoor activities whether you are indulging in early Autumn traditions or still trying to hang onto Summer as long as you can.

By Monday, we’ll still be in the warm airmass but a cold front will be approaching from the north and may toss some clouds into the region and not allow it to get as warm as the previous 2 days in most locations. This front will settle south of the region for the final day of September and the first day of October (Tuesday-Wednesday) with lots of clouds and somewhat cooler air, though not that chilly. The front is expected to try to creep back northward as a warm front on Thursday but the weather next week is a little suspect with that front trying to come by and possible low pressure trying to form to the southeast of New England while a new high builds north of the region. So the late-week part of the forecast will carry less confidence than usual at this time.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…

  1. I’m a little hesitant to drop it too much next week.
Yes it will be significantly cooler than the weekend’s high temps, but the ocean water is not THAT cold and the source region for the air is not particularly cold either.

    1. I know you can’t speak for BB, but any thoughts on why he might say that?
The CMC and GFS or more in line with what you have.

      Many thanks

      1. I’m not really sure. Maybe some kind of cold air manufacturing above in the trough to the north than gets brought to the surface and advected in here? Educated guess.

        1. Fair enough. Thanks for giving it a shot. We shall see.

As much as I like Barry, I’m with you on this one. πŸ˜€

  2. Temps in 80s with no humidity. Then return of early fall weather. Where else could you find anything as perfect.

    1. Tis nice, that’s for certain.

Driving to the Cape tomorrow for Dinner with friends. Should be nice.
Last time I did this, it was raining.

If anyone is going to be on the Cape, I can HIGHLY recommend this restaurant
      where we will be dining:

      Buca’s Tuscan Roadhouse

Their Rib Eye Steak is to DIE FOR!!!
NEVER tasted anything that delicious before!

    A. 3 minutes 30 seconds
    B. 3 minutes
    C. 2 minutes 50 seconds
    D. 2 minutes 20 seconds

This weekend we will move into a period where the dark hours will be longer than the light hours. Also the number of minutes of daylight we lose will continue, but the daily loss will slow a little.

  4. Today’s 2nd AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

This month Logan has received .52” of rain and the average 3.44.” What is the most amount of rain that Logan has received in the month of September?

    A. 12.34”
    B. 10.94”
    C. 8.11”
    D. 5.23”

    Answer later today.

  5. D. For First B. For second.
First weekend of fall feeling more summer like than fall like
Today is the 29 year anniversary of Hurricane Gloria. I don’t remember it since I was one years old at the time. This was the last hurricane to hit CT and caused the biggest amount of power outages in CT history until tropical storm Irene in 2011 only to have the October Noreaster just eight weeks later top the list for biggest power outages in CT history.

  6. High of 81 at Logan today, should hit 83 there tomorrow but may fall back a bit with a sea breeze later. 84-88 many inland areas. Again no surprise. We saw this coming for a while and knew 80s were possible going forward as there were strong signals of a warm pattern, and here it is. Gets knocked down a bit during next week with a cold front from the north early in the week and some wet weather eventually evolving. Still seeing some strong indications of a period of wet weather focused around Saturday October 4.

Also seeing rather strong indications of warm/dry weather returning after that. I think we will indeed go that way again as that is now our predominant pattern. Eventually more rain at times in October but I believe that’s temporary and a long term dry spell is underway that lasts well into if not through 2015.

    1. Good …. We camp every Columbus Day Weekend and in the last several years, we have had some 60F days and mid 30s in SE Mass at night. I wouldnt mind if we were closer to 70F by day and in the mid 40s at night.

  7. What a spectacular day. And good news I wanted to share with my friends here. We visited daughter for first time. They have two sets of stairs and mac couldn’t manage them. With sons help but a good deal on his own, he did great. πŸ˜€

  8. It was a spectacular day ! I got up to Lowell to visit relatives and friends. Ended day here in Marshfield with family and friends and a few “beverages” while all the kids played. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  10. This is AMAZING !

On the summit of Mt. Washington, the temp has risen this evening to 61.7F !!!! This is at 6,288 ft, I believe.

on the auto raod vertical profile, it shows an inversion. The temp continues to warm down to 4,000 ft, where it is 67F. At the base of the mtn, about 1,600 ft, it has cooled to 56.2F.

  11. What I love about days like today is the evening, during the summer it rarely cools off at night. It can be warm like today but at least at night it’s really comfortable. Best of both worlds, warm days and cool nights. Perfect imo.

      1. The pain is better since seeing DR yesterday. Gave me a bunch of stuff to help. Still hurts but at least it’s more tolerable.

  13. Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

What is the highest temperature that Boston has hit in October?
    A. 93
    B. 90
    C. 85
    D. 82

    Answer later today.

  14. I agree with Hadi that today is likely the warmest day until next year.

With that said, put me down for another 1-3 (80F) days at Logan in early to mid October and 1 very humid (65 – 70F) dewpoint day.

    The reason …..

Both the GFS and EURO show the next long term buckle in the jet stream to be in the western to central US. In response, the jet stream ridges along the east coast.

By day 10, the EURO has 15C 850 mb temps nosing their way through the Great Lakes towards New England and the long range GFS is continuously mild to warm.

Of course, the long range models probably dont see the back door cold fronts or the cutoff atlantic lows in these patterns, but I’ll take my chances that we’ll still see some very warm conditions in early to mid October.

  15. Was out running errands ….. Its really warm, especially in the sun.

Also, I notice the dewpoints are approaching 60F.

Most of August didnt feel this warm. πŸ™‚

    1. Was just thinking that Tom. Temps in the 80s being considered hot by most is really indicative of how “average” this summer was with no real heat to speak of

  16. Still lots of green around here for almost oct, my backyard trees had begun changing last year already, I wonder if it was bc of the late start back in April

    1. The splashings of color have been very localized so far. Drove down 123 in Norton/Easton the other day and it was about 50% color. Down 106 in Mansfield there was zero color.

      1. Sheltered spots, and the color speeds up when it’s below 49 degrees, and slows when it stays above 49 degrees, we r heading to North Conway this upcoming weekend for peak colors, then like 2 weeks later it’s peak around here, so we will get to enjoy to peak foliages

  17. Droopy leaves. Just wilting in this heat and lack of rain. Not a pretty sight. However, I’ve been told that west of here and in Vermont where they’ve had more rain the foliage is fine.

Am I seeing the makings of our first cut-off low in a very long time this week? Problem is it’s not loaded with much moisture. Odd to have a constant flow of easterly wind starting Tuesday with so little rain. Maybe we’ll get a soaker late in the week with the low moving up the coast and hugging it?

    1. I see all sorts of definitions for Indian summer. I thought at one point it had to be in November. But I think that is wrong. But I did think it had to be after a killing frost. Does anyone have a good definition?

  18. Here in Hingham the Conservatory Park weather station on the Wundermaps has been reporting 90 degrees or slightly above since 1:30. I think I may go out and test the pool water.

    1. Hingham still showing 91 at 3:45. East Weymouth 88 and East Braintree 89.

Went in the pool…chilly….don’t have a working thermometer but I’d guess around 62 o 63….if it were a few degrees warmer it wouldn’t have been too bad. The dog jumped in and right out πŸ™‚

  19. it hit 88 degrees today, i went apple picking. I picked an apple off the tree and bit into it and it was warm.. warm apples are the worse.
