Ridge Out

DISCUSSION…

The big high pressure ridge that provided the Summery weekend is now a memory and after the cold front that passed from the north Monday, a more onshore flow will dominate southern New England into midweek before turning more southerly later this week.ย  Less sun and warmth, more clouds but not much wet weather will be the ruling factors. But by Saturday, a trough of low pressure from the west will bring the first shot at widespread beneficial rain in a while, then continue eastward so that the second half of the weekend should be salvaged for outdoor activities.

  1. Thanks TK! ๐Ÿ™‚

Is Saturday the “real deal” this time around or could something go wrong again?

Btw, the activity I have for Saturday evening will be indoors so I don’t care as much. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. As Barry says: All systems fail in a drought.

So, you never know. Even if we get, say, 1/2 inch of rain out of it, it’s little help if we don’t follow it with more soon after.

  2. Thanks TK. Front chased us down the coast on the way home today. Hadn’t been in Portland when we left but looks to have come in quick after that. Not too bad in North Attleboro when we got home. It was 77.

    1. Front came by here in the 3PM hour. Very noticeable shift of wind and quick temp drop. By 2 hours later, it was low overcast with light drizzle.

  3. Being outside all day yesterday, it amazed me that even though the sun angle is late September, the intense sun felt more like late June. If there had been even moderate amounts of humidity, I beliee I would have felt very miserable.

I really felt about as hot as I felt at any time during the summer yesterday…OUCH!

  4. Down to 11:50 for sunlight length in Boston and still shortening quickly.

We’ll be under 11 hrs before we know it.

    1. As I mentioned above, the sun intensity from the summer is very much still there, regardless of the shortening of daylight.

  5. And to see Brady being replaced, never thoughg I would see that. He also wasn’t very kind to the backup on the sideline.

  6. I would be so frustrated if I was Brady, granted he played terrible yesterday but the Pats are nearly 14 million under the cap. They continue to bring in mid level players and save money. They could have had Emmanuel Sanders last year but choose not to match the offer sheet. Look at what he’s doing right now. They are one dimensional right now and opposing defenses know it. They have wasted the last couple of Brady’s year and are doing the same right now. If I was all of you I would be beyond frustrated with Kraft and his unwillingness to spend the money on free agents.

  7. With what the Pats have shown and what our eyes are telling us about their offensive line …..

Here are some of their remaining games to consider. Think of these teams current records and/or who they have for quarterback.

    Home : Bengals, Broncos, Lions

    Away : Colts, Packers, Chargers

    I’ve got to think that’s a likely 2-4 win/loss record out of those 6 games and ….

there’s still @Buffalo and @ NY Jets, which is 1 more loss.

Peg me in for 9-7, maybe even 8-8.

  8. well yesterday absolutly stunk.

band practice was actually good, but it was a cold ,drizzle windy kind of practice.
Got home at like 9 and saw the patriots at 14-0…
what i saw was a patriots that was lacking
recievers at the same page as the QB
no run game/ really no passing game
    o-line and d-line struggling.
o-line not protecting brady , not creating running lanes for the running backs and screens.
brady was being shaken up and could not do what brady does…. We be lucky to get 10 wins. Hopefully these home games can help the pats out. O-line is the biggest problem. only giving Brady an average of 2 minutes to complete a pass and the fact that brady has run out of the pocket about 30% last night should concern us all because when he starts doing that it does not turn out good, He is a pocket passer not a scrambler

    1. He used to have very good pocket awareness in his younger days. He was never quick or rarely ever scrambled, but he had a good awareness of when guys were close and could elude the pass rush with the best of them. He has for whatever reason lost that instinct and will panic if he feels pressure, even if the pressure isnt even close to him. He plays scared now which is a very bad sign for an aging QB.

  9. I’m with you on your thoughts Hadi. For the first time in this “dynasty”, the Pats are getting criticized by the national media. I saw and heard some of the soundbites for national guys and its not good. They have been the sacred cows of the league for so long but i fear that is coming to an end. If Kraft was smart, he should step in at some point and do something. HIS team is getting bashed by respected people around the league for the way he and coach have run things since the last super bowl win.

        1. Of course I did. I wanted to see 10G play. He’ll be perfectly fine. I stay up until 11:45 PM every night anyway.
Even watched the channel 5 news before retiring. ๐Ÿ˜€

          1. I kinda wish i saw 10G play. But then i would have had to sit through all the other garbage to get there. I can’t remember the last time i was up for the 11pm news :/

              1. Agree on the OLine..but Brady and McDaniels also have to share some of the blame here. Brady is not spreading it around and while I also think the receivers are sometimes not running the correct pattern I think Brady has also been under and overthrowing at times. I’ll go along with 8-8 at this point.

                1. Oh to be sure. Is the reason the O-line? OR something else? OR combination. To be sure Brady is NOT playing well.

WHY is the highest paid receiver not getting targeted?

                  Something is WRONG.
I think it starts with the O-line and expands from there. The offense couldn’t stay on the field, so the defense got tired. That didn’t help.

  10. Given the tough part of the schedule coming up, if this team doesn’t improve, i could see them going 9-7. As Tom pointed out earlier, that might win the division, which would teach this team nothing.

  11. What a MISERABLE morning in more ways than 1.
The Weather SUCKS!! On the way in, drizzle and an occasional rain drop or 2.

    re: Patriots
I will ONLY make one comment!

What a Putrid, Pathetic, Piss-Poor Performance by a SHITTY team that isn’t going
    to get any better.

How could the Patriots give Brady that collection of FAT misfits that poses as
an offensive line??? The KRAFTS are CHEAP! Brady should WALK out on the team!
He doesn’t need anymore money. TOM, leave before you get killed.

I can’t get over this. I thought that they would come around. Ain’t gonna happen.

Andy Dalton WILL have a field day come Sunday, after which our beloved Pats will
    be 2-3!!!

And now we have 3 out 4 Boston teams that SUCK and a 4th pretender. Sad times ahead for sure.

Ok My rant is over. No MORE Patsies comments.

    1. I actually think the Red Sox can rebound very quickly. Reading some stuff on “Grantland” on ESPN and their thinking is the same. With $ to spend, an overabundance of young talent to dangle as trade bait they all think the Sox will be back up there again next year. I have to agree.

  12. Good Morning. John, or anyone familiar with the Longwood hospital area, heading toward the hospitals on Brookline Ave from Rt 9, am I correct that Children’s hospital is just a block past where you would turn onto Jimmy Fund Way to get to Dana? Is that Longwood Ave that you turn left onto from Brookline? Does anyone know if the parking garage is on the left or right and which side the main entrance to the hospital is?

    Thank so much!

    1. Vicki,

      Vicki,

Are you looking for info from RT 9 (Huntington Ave.) Or from Brookline Ave
(which you can bear left while still in Brookline from Rt 9)??

IF you are coming in via Brookline Ave, there will be Francis St. where the Brigham is, then Jimmy Fund Lane and then Longwood. You would take
a RIGHT onto Longwood to get to Children’s which is a block or 2 on the right.

There is parking directly across the street (Or at least there used to be).

      1. OS – I’m looking for exactly what you gave me – sorry I meant my other left which of course is my right ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thank you for the perfect directions. I know Francis and Jimmy Fund well so that seems quite simple!!

          1. Thanks OS – one grandchild nearly needed to head there last night and fortunately did not but we realized we did not know the exact location and wandering around Boston in the wee hours isn’t a good idea. So this is preventive or prep or….well, you know ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Weather a bit reminiscent of Spring.

Patriots a bit reminiscent of the 1980s.

    Bruins on NESN tonight.

    Blog update by 4PM!

  14. Been a light rain in Plymouth all day. Perfect day to lounge on the couch and watch a good movie. If only this work thing didn’t get in the way.

  15. A rainy day! How often have we said that in the past 4 months? Maybe a couple of times. The vegetation is desperate for rain. If a tree could be happy, it’s happy today. More rain on the way.

As far as the Patriots are concerned … We’ve been very lucky during this incredible stretch of titles, divisions, conference championships. All good things must come to an end. And I’m afraid the end is no longer near. It’s here. Brady is inaccurate, immobile, and just plain scared of being hit. His demise is precipitous, but at his age not surprising. Beyond Brady, there’s A LOT of mediocrity: From the running back corps to the secondary to the D and O-lines. Edelman, Gronkowski, and Gostowski are stand-out players. That’s it, folks. We’re headed for .500 or below territory, unfortunately. I can’t imagine the Pats winning the division this year, in spite of the division’s lack of strength.

    1. It’s ironic that it now seems the team will not be prepared for the eventual departure of Brady. Belichick has prided himself on preparing the team for the long term and making decisions based on the overall health of the team and not for one particular season.

      1. I’ll say one thing….
I think they have his replacement in the waiting.
The problem is, they may need G10 before he is ready. ๐Ÿ˜€

  16. If I get something right weather-wise today it’s this: I under-forecast the rain! And much of it is falling where it is most-needed. This may happen again tomorrow. And Saturday looks like it may contain some beneficial rain as well – at least a temporary slow-down to the developing drought.

    Working on a new blog.

  17. To add another thing to the patriots. We should have kept talib and Blount and got rid of Ridley. Oline is not protecting brady, which is affecting the passing, His recievers not on the same page as him plus not as good. Running game is not doing a dam thing because of the o line not giving them holes…. do you see the trend. People did not really think of this till now but our o line has been one of the best through out the brady and bill 20 year spread, now they suck. Im not sure but i think its somthing to do with the new oline coach sucking as well as the newbies.. Until they get thier crap togeather … im going with a 10-6 record.

  18. It’s funny. I don’t find that the losses are bothering me that much. I guess I really enjoyed the winning years. Just like when the Sox don’t contend once in a while – whatever. There are a whole lot of teams in these leagues. Yours is not always going to be at the top. I’m a fan? YES. But I can just deal with these down-periods. They happen. We’ll see how much recovering they can pull off. Season is only 1/4 of the way through. Long way to go.

Looking forward to Bruins. Average age went down, so some inexperience will play in, but some great veterans to help the young guys learn. Let’s see how the team comes together. A preseason test tonight which we can view on NESN at 7PM.

And now to the weather: The blog is updated!
