Sunday Morning Update

8:24AM

Short discussion (full one later with The Week Ahead post)…
Today… Upper level low pressure passing north of the region but lobe of energy on the southern side of it comes across as we undergo cold air advection at the surface. This combines for a gusty wind, cooler air, a variably cloudy sky which may become mostly cloudy at times, and a slight risk of passing light rain showers (but no widespread rain).
Tonight… Clouds decrease but wind stays gusty as cool air continues to flow into the region.
Monday… High pressure builds just south of the region while low pressure continues to slowly push away to the north, allowing for plenty of sun but still a gusty breeze.
Monday night / Tuesday… Some cloudiness but but then a fair amount of sun returning during the day Tuesday as warm air moves in first aloft then at the surface as a warm front moves through.
Tuesday night / Wednesday… Additional cloudiness but some sun as well during the day Wednesday, also cannot rule out a band of scattered to widespread showers passing by along a cold front that does not have too much moisture to work with.
Thursday… Weak high pressure but enough to provide fair weather with cooler air.
Friday… Starts nice but clouds advance ahead of a low pressure trough.
Friday night (Halloween) / Saturday (November 1)… Not sure how a trough and low pressure evolve along the East Coast just yet. Going to stay away from major storm development at this point, though there have been several computer model runs that have hinted at it. So this part of the forecast subject to significant change.

SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FORECAST…
TODAY: Variably cloudy. Slight chance of passing light rain showers during the afternoon. Highs 53-60. Wind W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Decreasing clouds. Lows 38-45. Wind W 10-20 MPH. and gusty.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 58-66. Wind W 10-20 MPH and gusty.
TUESDAY: More clouds AM, more sun PM. Low 50. High 68.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Low 55. High 72.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 45. High 60.

  1. Thanks TK. Looked like the Euro may have backed off a little overnight on a big storm for next weekend.

    1. It has, but I’m not totally surprised as it was actually an outlier as of yesterday. We’ll see where it goes. It could find it again and then all the other models do the same thing.

At the moment I’m leaning away from the bigger storm scenario, but it’s way out.

    1. 20+ bands, about 40 floats, and several dignitary cars and often a contingent of state police vehicles, including some of the big disaster bus command center on wheels kind of things.

We’ve had bands from U Mass Amherst, Harvard, BC, BU, UNH, U Mass Lowell, and dozens of high schools from around this area and as far away as southern NH march in this parade. There are also a fair amount of colonial bands and bagpipe bands. There is an annual appearance by the Waltham Legion Band, once headed by the famous Dotty Hill. They were one of the first bands of the type to go over to Russia around the time that the USSR dissolved. Dotty Hill lead the band with her trademark baton for years on end. She passed away I believe in 2004 but marched up until a few years before her passing. I still miss seeing her lead that band, but have 3 of her Woburn parade appearances on video from 1990, 1991, and 1992. Priceless memories.

      1. Wow. That is huge and what a wonderful memories and a special tradition which make it even more special. Enjoy.

  2. Repost.
    Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

The 1989 World Series was interrupted by …
    A. An earthquake
    B. Flash flooding
    C. Darkness
    D. A snowstorm

Answer later today. (At the time, I was living in the city where the 1989 Series took place

  3. Tweet from Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan from WVIT here in CT
Quite a windstorm modeled by the GFS next weekend. CHilly weather for start of Nov a good bet.

    1. Blah blah blah. I don’t believe any of the models at this point.

      The Euro has backed off.

      Blah blah blah

      BORING weather. BORING.

  4. 12Z GFS would have it the 30s here on Saturday, 11/1 with Snow Showers. πŸ˜€

Yeah sure!! he he ha ha hardy ha ha!!!!!!!

  5. Repost of my quiz answer

    Thank you Longshot

    A

Macs brother and family also were living in Oakland at the time. They were visiting us. That was the year of Hugo and Macs parents who lived just east of Charleston were here during the series too

  6. Cold rain earlier. Around 11:30 We were at target in Marlborough which is up on a hill and always colder and windier than surrounding area. I swear there was white mixed with the rain as it began. Could have been small ice pellets (more likely) or bits of snow (less likely). Sun coming out now but it is a soup day for sure !!

  7. I would agree with that. Always nice to have a nice easy win. I am hoping that will be the case for the Cowboys tomorrow night against the Redskins.

  8. At long last my son’s football team got their first win! Completely not weather related but just had to share. They worked so hard all season and finally got the win on their last game. πŸ™‚

        1. We have been windy here all day with about an hour rain midday. Wind is sustained around 10mph with gusts into mid 20s. That rain at Foxboro is cold.

      1. You would be correct. Front row, left side, Atlas vest and buzz cut sides with sidesweep bangs (no spikes right now). Such a rebel!

    1. May I please ask where this photo was taken?
It is freaking me out as it looks eerily like Where I used
to work. My exit was not pleasant. WOW this is freaking me out.

        1. Oh Shit yes! Meditech
That was in the Atrium at Meditech. I KNEW IT!!

I won’t get into it all. Very sad situation.

I can tell you that the building had an energy management system. Care to guess who maintained that and did ALL of the environmental programming for the system, including having a different thermostatic set point, depending on the temperature/humidity combination??

If you guessed OS, you would be correct. πŸ˜€

          1. It’s a nice location for the conference, but I had nothing to do with it. πŸ™‚

If I had my way, it would still be at the last location. πŸ™‚

  9. Answer to Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

The 1989 World Series was interrupted by …
    A. An earthquake
    B. Flash flooding
    C. Darkness
    D. A snowstorm

I think everyone got the answer right. It is A. Tonight’s World Series game is BIG.

        1. Sorry…just saw a report that people with type AB blood (my type) are most apt to lose memory….who are you?And do I get to blame any of my many not so bright comments on that πŸ˜‰

        2. Lol we would probably watch football even if the sox were in it, to each there own πŸ™‚ baseball has seriously faded the last decade to 2 decades now, to many games and super boring

    1. Was still fun longshot. After I posted about Hugo it dawned on me they should have asked what other major event occurred just prior to the earthquake. Might have made it a bit tougher

  10. Well I was mislead on Vereen. My bad for listening.

Not bad for the Pats and Tom. 5 TD passes, not too shabby.

    Now for Denver.

    1. Denver will be tough. It’s here so that’s a good thing. I think we really see how the pats have improved after next weeks game. Need to put everything into this weeks practice.

  11. Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski left Sunday’s game due to dehydration.

Really, An athletic young man in his prime in 55 Degree weather? Really.
I sincerely HOPE that is all it was. Mrs. OS saw the look of an INJURY on his face.
    Hope she is wrong.

    1. The only thing i can think of is that he had been battling some kind of flu or illness that contributes to dehydration.

      1. Yup we discussed that as well.

no matter what it was, we NEED him against Denver!!!
We don’t have a chance without him.

      1. He was “only” 71, very young for this day in age. I believe he had a long illness. πŸ™

I remember him well. He was the kids programming announcer for Ch. 56 back in the 1960’s and 70’s. πŸ˜€

  12. On another subject, what the bleep bleep bleep is going on with EDELMAN?

2 MORE DROPS today, FOUR (4) in 2 games!!!!!

    1. He had slippery hands last week too. Ugh. If he is going out with gronk the night before clearly gronk handles it a lot Better than he does.

  13. I’m thinking 70+ Tue and Wed, tonight’s Saints Packer game should be very good πŸ™‚
A very nice weekend of weather πŸ™‚

  14. The mlb needs to shorten there season bc there forcing there fans to pick a game, and there not picking the mlb, of course if your from Kansas City or San Fran, the ratings r showing baseball to be very localized now, if your teams not in it, your probably not watching.

  15. Hey Tk who was the lady two down from you. I knew that was you. I saw a picture if you I think you posted it with a skali cap on and most of face coveted. All I needed was a little look to figure it out lol.

    1. People have told me I type fast and since then I seem to be typing faster for some reason which is leading to mistakes. See above sorry .

    2. The young lady 2 to my left is a student at UMass Lowell and I believe a WBZ intern. They have a good group of students there right now.

  16. TK – Regarding the upcoming winter, you have pretty much been thinking along below normal snowfall. Could there be a repeat of 2011-12? I hope we will have a bit more snowfall than that winter season.

    2011-12 = 9.3″ UGH!

    1. He may not be alone now. He said somthing about after talking with some of the mets yesterday he is feeling even better on his early thoughts.

    2. I don’t think we’re in for a 2011-2012 repeat. But I still think Boston has a greater chance of coming in sub-normal than above.

  17. I can’t help laughing a little bit when I think back to everyone saying that the team was a mess, Brady was washed up, and the dynasty was over. Well I don’t know about the dynasty, but this is still a damn good Patriots team. True they had a couple bad games, but I think, as usual, the season and team was judged WAY too soon by the majority of fans.

    1. The team needed to gel. They still need to gel. The old man who was washed up a few weeks ago looked darned good today when he had a team to support him. But he is working with a lot more rookies than I feel he should be so it doesn’t change my opinion that he could have a whole lot more than what he has been given….other top QBs at the same point in their careers do. But it does surprise me that often people see that he is working with less and still criticize him

  18. Working on The Week Ahead. It’s long and involved, and I hope to have it posted by 10PM.

  19. Hey, today’s 12z EURO looks like yesterday’s GFS with the low passing thru northern New Enland next weekend.
