Sit & Spin

A storm sitting and spinning off the coast is sending clouds & scattered showers/drizzle into eastern Massachusetts and will continue to do so through Wednesday. No widespread heavy rain is expected. Areas far inland have seen little effect from this storm with more sunshine & warmer temperatures. This storm will wander away during Thursday with improving conditions over eastern Massachusetts. High pressure will build down from Canada late this week into the weekend, and though it is a tricky forecast, I believe that this high will be strong enough to keep unsettled weather south and west of the Boston area for Friday and the weekend. Next week may be a different story. More on that later. For now, details for the Boston area through the coming weekend…

THROUGH WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. Scattered showers and areas of drizzle, especially through Wednesday morning. Low 45 to 50. High 55 to 60. Wind N 10 to 20 mph gusting as high as 30 mph.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Low 45 to 50. Wind N 10 to 15 mph.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. High 65 to 70. Wind N to NW 10 to 15 mph becoming variable.

FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY: Variably cloudy including episodes of sunshine all 3 days. Lows generally in the upper 40s to middle 50s. Highs generally in the 60s but cooler along the coast.

  1. Thanks TK for the update. For now, only you and Harvey are optimistic about the weekend. Pete B. and Todd are calling for showers both days.

Keeping my fingers crossed your current weekend forecast holds. 🙂

    1. Things are REALLY blocked up. I split the difference between the GFS & Euro. GFS is more aggressive allowing the next low pressure area to get in here on the weekend, while the Euro has the high pressing everything well to the south. So I took the optimistic road and just called for variably cloudy skies with what would be a general overcast having to fight dry air at mid levels thanks to the ridge just to our N. I don’t think ocean flow will be the kind that produces alot of low clouds as the surface high to the N comes with a pretty nice bundle of dry air.

  2. What a difference in temperature today and sky conditions in eastern New England temps in the 50s with clouds and the farther west you were the brighter the skies and the warmer the temperature was.

  3. Yeah here in Wrentham we were partly to mostly cloudy today with 1 or 2 bouts of showers/drizzle, temp got close to 60 but fell just short at 59 degrees, next week there could and I stress could be a flood threat as 3 systems in 4 days could lead to 3-4 inches of rain, still early, have a good day everyone 🙂

  4. Charlie I am keeping my fingers crossed that won’t happen. Thankfully plenty of time to watch that situation.

  5. I don’t think we end up in a flooding rain situation next week. More likely in a situation like the one we’re in now, only a little wetter than this particular one.

    1. I’m leaning that way but with 3-5 inches of rain coming from Sunday-Friday next week that could lead to some minor flooding IMO 🙂

  6. I hate hot, humid temps but at the same time I DON’T want a repeat of Summer 2009. Keeping my fngers crossed we get out of this current pattern by Memorial Day…based on past experience, we usually do.

  7. The sun is out in Sudbury right now – don’t know how long that will last. But it is still chilly and damp out and was even sprinkling a bit earlier.

  8. No sun in Framingham although I thought I saw an attempt a bit ago. If I’m not mistaken the clouds are moving northeast to south/southeast. Our porch is being stripped down and rebuilt after the ice dam damage from last winter. It’s a good thing it’s too cold to sit outside or I’d be driving everyone crazy with my frustration that both deck and porch are not usable at the moment.

  9. Sun has been out here in Wrentham around 2pm, it’s turned out to be a beautiful day 🙂

  10. It’s actually mostly sunny here in Wrentham and temp in the last hr has spiked to 59 degrees

  11. beautiful sunshine and blue sky has moved in off the ocean 🙂 here in Marshfield.

    1. We had that for a bit here in the NW suburbs but now some low level convergence is building a stratocumulus deck over eastern MA which has expanded back across the coastal plain from NNW to SSE. Wind is more northerly now vs. northeasterly earlier.

        1. Same thing happened here – bright and sunny then around 4:00 or so it clouded up. It is 60 degrees here in Sudbury but it feels colder. Probably the dampness.

  12. Is the sun on strike in framingham?? I have not seen it all day. Even now it’s gray and overcast and cool

  13. Sort of half watched the BZ weather tonight and it sounded like the Sunday forecast was for buckets of rain. Not sure I heard it right.

  14. The trolls on the WBZ site are complaining about our current weather. I can’t say that I blame them, but it could a be a lot worse. The Rockies (including Denver) are expecting up to a foot of snow not to mention the major Mississippi flooding. I still believe that by the end of this month around Memorial Day weekend it will be nice with warm temps. 🙂

    1. I hope your correct about warmer temps by months end Philip, but I have my doubts…….. Everything about this spring has been or at least seemed cooler. Hudson Bay is still frozen solid and, beacuse of it, much of Canada just to its east is snowcovered. The ocean temp to our east is still in the 40s. These 3 areas of chill are dominating through the current weather pattern and I wonder if they are going to continue to influence the weather pattern to keep New England’s air coming from one of these 3 cold air source regions.

      1. Yeah I looked at the ocean temps there 48 degrees at the mass nh border and 58 down on the ri coast and long island

  15. Does anyone have any early memorial day predictions?

I’m hoping for some nice weather in the Chatham area around that time! Getting a little tired of these long stretches of dreary weather.

  16. I gotta tell ya, the last week has not been very dreary here, a matter of fact we’ve had some sort of sun everyday, and it doesn’t necessarily look like a raw cold rain next week, temps next week look like they will be 65-70 daytime and 50-55 at night with periods of showers and embedded downpours, I actually think this spring weatherwise has been pretty good compared to some springs 🙂

  17. Hi TK- This spring reminds me of two years ago when the weather was not that great and than we had that rainy summer. Could we see that pattern again this summer. Have you seen any longrange forcasts on this coming summer. After the winter we just had a rainy summer would be a bummer. Go Bruins.

  18. I don’t know if this means anything regarding “our” weather but Lake Winnipeg is currently frozen over. Last year at this time, the lake was completely free of ice, but in 2009 it was covered in ice like this year.

Are we looking at a 2009 summer repeat?? ;-0

  19. Yes, TK is fine. 🙂 Been a crazy couple weeks around here. Updating the blog now. Most of you will see it tomorrow morning…
