  1. Some brightening today in Boston after a.m. fog but not one “sliver” of blue to be seen, then turned dark followed by downpours and cool temps. I got indoors just in time. I will give credit to the mets for getting the sky forecast correct although I don’t recall afternoon downpours mentioned.

It may be time to give up on spring and just wait for June 21st. 🙁

    1. I don’t think they counted on a boundary of temps/dewpoints having as much contrast across it as occurred today near the South Coast. There was a reason for my broadbrushed forecast… 🙂

  2. Thank you TK – Rain has tapered some in Framingham but was coming down fairly heavily earlier. For some reason my husband is still on the golf course in Wayland 🙂

  3. Today’s CPC is still calling for above normal temps and (well) above normal precip through the start of June. For now I am not particularly optimistic for the Memorial Day weekend as I was earlier. 🙁 We will see what happens though.

TK, do you concur with the CPC outlook at this time?

  4. Hello and good evening, thanks tk for your take as it is always professional, I agree with what uve said, 1 thing that I might stress for tommorrow I’m thinking more than scattered showers, a more widespread showers and tstorms esp between 2-6pm, have a great day everyone 🙂

    1. It sure is possible things blossom more widespread… Especially if we get a slot of sunshine 20 or more miles wide for at least 2 hours.

      1. I know it’s tough to get everyone to attend but r u guys gonna meet at sometime again, maybe Patriot Place lol 🙂

  5. TK- Big game tonight. Bruins need to score first and fast to get the crowd out of it. I hate to say this but It is true, thomas is slipping a little. He needs to have a big stand here. I don’t like the soft goals he has let in as I am sure you agree. I bet Tyler get’s another goal tonight. They are playing a tough hungry team but If they play like it is do or die I like there chances. Go Bruins.

    1. TT had a big 3rd period last game. I think that set him up well for tonight. Bruins need to play their typical road game they played pretty much all year. This team will not give up 5 goals for the 3rd game in a row tonight. Mark my words. If they put the puck in the net, they will be fine. I’m feeling either a 3-1 or 4-2 type road win for the B’s if they come out solid and confident.

  6. I am surprised how high scoring last game. Will see if the Bruins can take the home ice advantage away from the Lightnng as just as I am typing Bruins lead 1-0 thanks to Krejci goal 1:10 into the game. Roloson does not look as dominate as he did in the series against the Capitals.

  7. I think crushed ice from my freezer would make a better ice surface than the one in Tampa this evening. Seen nearly a half dozen guys go down just because of poor ice. The very warm weather in Tampa probably did not help.

  8. At least next week were not talking all day washouts but more of a summer like pattern with a chance of some showers and storms. As I said yesterday we lucked out that we did not see any flooding or have severe weather like that EF 0 tornado that hit Northeast Philadephia, PA yesterday.

  9. It was nice to see a bit of sun today…

Noticing an active night in the Midwest and down South with thunderstorms with tornado’s embedded in them, but it is interesting to track them on Doppler radar.

    Question…
Would you be more comfortable if tv mets gave a 5 day forecast instead of a 7 day forecast? I am going to be doing a persuasive essay on that in English class, i would like to hear your opinions on which you would prefer.

    1. There is too much misinterpretation of a 7-day (even though I like them and give them myself). I lean a bit more toward 5, as much as I love to look out a week and tell people what I think. I guess as long as you remind them about confidence levels as you get out, and they get it, it’s ok.

    2. Scott as more of an observer than a person that is knowledgeable about meteorology I tend to think the average person looks at the 7 day and discounts it or gets discouraged looking at all in the future because they know it probably is not accurate. I’d feel more confidence in a five day. Hope that helps a little. Great topic for an essay.

  10. I like the 7 day because I get a sense of what the week ahead is going to be like but I also know that once you get past day two to take it with a grain of salt since so much can change.

  11. Scott, I prefer the 7-day forecasts. In fact, I would love someday to see a station have the guts to make “10-days”. Yes, that would open the mets up for big-time busts, but it could be fun especially during winters.

Back in the day, most TV and radio forecasts rarely went beyond 3 days. 🙂

  12. Philip the local CBS station WTKR down in Norfolk, VA used to do 10 day forecasts now they cut them back to 7 day forecasts. I was vacationing down there happened to catch the weather and could not believe when I heard the meteorologist say now lets take a look at our triple doppler 10 day forecast.

  13. My huge problem with the 7 day forecasts is that any forecast outside of 5 days has about a 30% verification rate. With that said, the general public relies on a full forecast that is Atleast 75% accurate.
Now if one took a look at Pete B’s 7 day yesterday, you would still be thinking next week will feature plenty of sun and temps in the mid 80s. If you look at today’s 7 day by him, it doesn’t compare one bit.
It’s the case where you see day 7 has 80 and sun one day, and the next day that same day has clouds with a temp of 65. It can really throw off people’s plans if they don’t keep up with the changes.

  14. Excellent win for the Bruins…at “worst” they come home tied 2-2! 🙂

I dont’ want to put a jinx or anything, but now I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bruins finish off Tampa in 5 games. We will see. 🙂

  15. Heavy rain and lots of thunder in Sudbury right now. Area of precipitation moving north.

  16. Wow rainshine you were online during the storm early morning. I could barely open my eyes. It was a good one but a very fast mover.

Sun just popped out here for a quick peak – first time we’ve seen it in Framingham all week but it’s gone!!!

  17. Vicki – I woke up just when it started thundering. The thunder kept getting louder and I couldn’t sleep, so I got up and looked at the doppler radar. When it thunders at night, usually I do that. I just like to see what’s going on.

Sun has been out in Sudbury for awhile now – wonder if that will make for some thunderstorms later on. Matt Noyes on NECN showed some pretty heavy storms in ENY and VT.

I prefer 5 – day forecasts – just because they might be more reliable. Things can change so fast.

    TK – Happy Birthday! 🙂

  18. Keeps getting dark here but no storm. A friend said there was one in Franklin around 5:30. Rainshine I usually get up to watch but my grandson was here and has a cold so I didn’t want to chance waking him.

  19. Starting at around 5pm yesterday, the sky was fascinating in Marshfield. The thing that made me take a look was distant, frequent thunder. Upon looking, most of the sky was clear, except the southwest horizon, which had two or three very tall cumulus clouds. It was fascinating to watch their movement, they disappeared over the northwestern horizon !! Not long after, the gray mass of low clouds moved inland, slowly dulling the sun and then the thick fog moved in, easily noticably flying by against any darker background object…..Hope everyone has a good Saturday !!

  20. TK any early thoughts in memorial weekend?
Temps have dropped here in JP in the last hour, wind also picked up ushering in the cool air.

  21. Bummer on the Bruins today, but don’t panic. 2-2. Coming home. Best of 3. Home ice advantage. Go B’s!

Hadi… I’ll be going thru my thoughts for Memorial Day weekend on tomorrow’s Week Ahead update. Stay tuned!

Love the bank of stratus & fog rolling westward across Metro Boston right now. It reminds me of Stephen King’s Mist. Alot of people thought it really was the “rapture” or “the end of the world as we know it”. 😉
