The Week Ahead

5:47PM

SUMMARY…

The cool pool of air over the northeastern US will sink slowly to the southeast and allow a surface low to move southwest then south in the waters east of New England, keeping the weather unsettled through Tuesday. Some improvement is expected by the middle of the week as this feature moves away to the east and a very weak ridge of high pressure tries to move in, but is replaced by low pressure to the south by late in the week with a threat of more unsettled weather. The uncertainty of Spring means it is not clear how quickly the weather will improve heading into next weekend, but for now will go for steady improvement.

    1. They have had a tough day down there. OS posted a link earlier

Do you know of any tornadoes were spawned?

      1. There was a cell with a tornado warning on it last night when
I posted and there’s still one this morning, with the squall line now further east. Hopefully, it wasn’t too bad a night.

  1. I saw a comment somewhere earlier wondering why the weather is “so unusual” in Texas today. Huh?

Uh, HELLO. It’s the middle of SEVERE WEATHER SEASON!
Since when is everything that occurs unusual? Bzzt! Wrong! Try again!

      1. Big state. Gulf of Mexico next door. Rockies to the west, cold air source to the north. Perfect laboratory for severe weather.

        Location. Location. Location. 🙂

  2. GFS is all over the map for the end of this week. 00Z GFS gave Boston over 3 inches of rain, 06Z gives Boston about .25!

  3. I was on skype with Dallas friends from 9:00-11pm, nothing made it to the metroplex, it brought back memories of severe storms and going with a few ametuer storm chasers, you see more severe weather down there in a spring season than u do here in a lifetime, exciting stuff 🙂

  4. Thanks TK! Let’s keep the rain away on Friday. My boys were supposed to have their first flag football game on April 3rd and we have yet to have a game. Hoping they can finally kick off their spring season this Friday.

      1. I’m glad your brother’s ok !

Every time I get frustrated with this cloudy, 50F baloney weather we are stuck with, I’ll keep reminding myself of what they are dealing with in the south.

        1. Yes, they’re fine. They rode it out in the hallway.
They don’t have basements down there. Ground water level is just way too high.

They would not survive a direct hit. They don’t have a storm cellar/shelter nor do most folks in LA.

          Crazy stuff.

          1. The claims adjuster From TX I spoke to last week and mentioned here said most don’t have basements or storm shelters where she is either.

  5. Sox starting ERA

    Kelly, J 4.08
    Buchholz, C 4.84
    Masterson, J 5.16
    Porcello, R 6.48
    Miley, W 8.62

    Starters ERA: 5.74

Pretty PATHETIC!!!!!! The boys better step up and step up SOON!!!!

    5 ACES! Right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. And our closer has lost 3 or so miles an hour off what was an 88mph fastball, which has him throwing all split finger fastballs, and as would be expected, throwing 1 pitch in the majors is not going to be successful.

The saving grace so far is that no one else in the division has started out 16-4 or something like that.

      1. Right and we gave him a 2 year contract. I think the Red Sox make decisions with a Ouija Board!!

  6. Mac’s chemo nurse just said her son and family who live in TX do not have basement or storm shelter. She repeated what adjuster told me that most do not. They go to an inside bathroom. I can guarantee if I would have a storm shelter if anywhere near possible.

    1. I think its absolutely insane to not have a storm shelter or basement of some kind in tornado alley. It’s like not owning a snow shovel living in new england. My aunt lives just south of Dallas in a mobile home park but they have designated underground storm shelters throughout the park.

    2. Vicki, agree completely! INSANE not to have one! INSANITY!!!!

My son has friends in Edmund, OK (Just NE of Oklahoma City) in the
heart of tornado alley. Although they do not have a basement, they have
an approved EF-5 Storm shelter within an inside room. These things are
supposedly guaranteed to withstand an EF-5 tornado. Not sure how, but
      they are.

      Here’s just one example

      1. I don’t run flash on my iPad but I’ve seen them. I agree. Makes not one ounce of sense to me.

  7. Ch. 5 met Danielle Vollmar is engaged to AMP 103.3 music director Joe Breezy. She plans to take his last name when they tie the knot next summer. 😀

    1. OS I know why I thought it was Charles river in holliston. We drove home rt 16 feom Dana Milford and there is a lovely wooden sign that has larger letters that read Charles River and in smaller letters underneath Natural Valley Water Storage. I’m positive about water storage buf not as much about first two words as they were not easy to see and drive. But basically drivers see Charles River. Very misleading

    2. I would be curious if there are any on-air mets out there who has a last name of “Snow”. 😀

  8. Awesome!! I hope we are above average for the entire month of May! I’m sick of these chilly raw days…

      1. Probably. I’m pretty sure that verified in Marshfield though, seemingly 3 different times during those 5 crazy weeks.

    1. I do however see AT LEAST average to above average temps next week 60-70 degrees with the “potential” for warmer temps if everything lines up right.

      1. This is certainly possible. I think we end up with a boundary nearby that can make the difference between 50 & 70 in many areas.

The real trick will be location and timing.

        1. If there is such boundary, that doesn’t usually bode well for those east of 495. I can see the CT river Valley approaching 80 while metro west is stuck in the lower 60s.

  9. Thanks for your forecast, TK.

This has been a slooooowww spring. Sort of interesting to see the flowers bloom in `slow motion’ and the same holds true for the leaves that are finally sort of appearing here and there. It’s been a classic NE April, which looks and feels like March most of the time. Let’s hope May brings us warmer temps.

The earthquake in Nepal reminded us all how fragile life can be, and how vulnerable mankind is to mother nature’s wrath. What a horrific disaster.

    1. Funny thing is, Joshua, the flowers and bushes here are absolutely in tune with pre 2000s and back to late 80s.

  10. Updating blog in a moment.

CPC took away the hot summer forecast. Basically equal chances now.
