Friday Forecast Update

7:51AM

DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 18-22)…
A few minor tweaks but overall a very similar forecast to the last one issued. Upper low passes southeast of New England tonight and Saturday. Cold front crosses the region early Sunday. A second cold front sinks southward late Tuesday while low pressure to the south tries to get a little closer. So this period we’ll be looking at when we’ll see more cloudiness versus any rainfall.

TONIGHT: Clear to partly cloudy. Patchy fog in low-lying areas. Lows 57-65. Wind light SW.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Highs 77-85. Wind SW to S 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Lows in the 60s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Highs in the 70s. Wind W 10-20 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 50s. Highs in the 60s.
TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Lows in the 50s. Highs in the 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 23-27)…
Fair and cooler September 23. More clouds but rain likely stays away September 24. Fair and cool September 25. Fair and milder September 26-27 which is the last weekend of the month.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 28-OCTOBER 2)…
Shower threat appears most likely mid period with temperatures above normal for the period, but likely warmest early.

    1. ALL FIXED

Not the most focused today. I didn’t even realize I deleted it as well as Friday night’s.

  1. Some of you may recall that I warned about inconsistencies in the GFS showing up and to be careful run to run. A small example.

Total rainfall through 384 hours for Boston from Wednesday 12z GFS: 5 to 10 inches.
Total rainfall through 384 hours for Boston from Thursday 06z GFS: 0.01 to 0.10 inch.

  2. Thank you TK. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers today. Ignore this blog for the day and concentrate on celebrating the amazing life of your dad.

    1. Thanks. 🙂 I’ll still be checking in at times. It’s a good thing for my mind and weather never really takes a break, even under high pressure ridges. 😛

    1. Thanks! Adding many more soon. I’ve had pretty much the same 4 photos on that page forever and the add option would not work for a while. I took that photo in Summer 2014 in the parking lot of Jordan’s Furniture in Reading MA.

        1. Are you talking about this blog or the FB page? I just happened to change the photo on the WHW FB page for the first time in a few months right before you said that. 😛

  3. Just came in from bus duty (early release : professional development for teachers)

It is warm out !!! And I see that Logan is 84F, I believe it !!!!!

  4. Man you guys got it made over there. No Friday before labor day , early dismissal what 3 weeks in lol. Whats going on up the hills suspicious death. Sounds like something Is up.

  5. I shared this post by my cousin on FB but thought some (OS and SSK come to mind) who are not on FB would be interested. Most is stuff we already know but the end with his definitive conclusion and also with regard to the rulers is very interesting. I haven’t seen the ruler pic before and it took me a minute to see what he meant. And this guy does not like the Pats.

    1. That’s unbelievable. TK nailed it with his forecast regarding the latter half of the summer. And I kept saying how September can’t be hot. I’m eating my words.

  6. JJ, thanks for sending the discussion on El Nino. Interesting, and different from what I have been thinking might happen this winter. I recall a relatively strong Pacific jet in 1997-1998, with a few sporadic bouts of cold, but mostly a mild winter. Wouldn’t a strong El Nino establish a relatively flat zonal flow? I do think there will be plenty of cold air to our north, but not so much where we live in SNE.

    1. So the thinking is storms going south. Of course this is just speculation. Is it still to be a strong one possibility of a historic strong El Niño.

  7. Ha. Love rhe pics of Pluto JPD. Will show grandson when we get home

Keith I’ll end with your pics. 🙂

  8. Logan’s overall July avg temp was 73.9F. This was 0.5F above average.

2 months later through the first 16 days of September, the avg temp is 72.3F, currently running at 5F above average for the month.

In essence, it’s not a stretch to say that the first half of September has basically featured average July temperatures.

    1. The trend is not the winter enthusiasts friend …

As mentioned above, the July anomaly was +.5F, August was +2.6F and 5.0F thus far in September.

The overall hemispheric pattern is bathed in El Niño.

The Atlantic Hurricane season has been muted with severe drought in the Carribean.

Signs of rain already appearing out west.

I’d have to hedge my early season thoughts on a typical El Niño cold season, with storminess and cooler than normal conditions in the south and mild, dry conditions in the north.

  9. Good morning!! Beautiful morning!! Going to see Blackmass tonight, there saying it’s going to be a big hit.

  10. Morning all. For the sake of ease I just edited the same post and re-titled it, changing the days. So there is a new forecast above but you don’t have to move to a new post. Keep commenting here since it’s not all that full anyway.

A fresh update will appear by early morning before I head to VT tomorrow.

Dad’s funeral is today so will be unable to really check the blog until sometime this afternoon. Have a good day everyone. 🙂

  11. TK,
I am so very sorry to hear about your Dad. Please accept my most heartfelt sympathy and know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
    Peace, Prayers and Comfort.
    Barbara Jean

Continue to keep the rain away, and let the sun shine away. All my seedings will germinate in October and then next March and April. 🙂 love this time of year. 🙂

  13. Thank you everybody for all your support and love during the past week! My family and I appreciate it!!!!

A new post is available. I’m off to a wedding in VT in a couple hours and won’t likely be back until the wee hours of Sunday morning. May pop onto the blog remotely a couple times. Enjoy your weekend. 🙂
