Sunday Forecast Update

9:32AM

DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 20-24)…
A cold front is exiting southeastern New England via Cape Cod this morning where clouds and a few sprinkles will linger into midday before departing. This front has already moved through the rest of the region earlier in the morning with some light showers and now sunshine and passing fair weather clouds will dominate the rest of the day along with a cooler breeze but still mild but much drier air. Refreshing air will be dominant through Monday as high pressure builds down from Canada, then gives way a little to low pressure south of the region Tuesday. At this time I’m just expecting some cloudiness at that time with most if not all rain from the low to the south remaining offshore and then moving away to the east on Wednesday as another high builds in. This high will then sink to the south on Thursday which will turn out to be a warmer day. The earlier ideas of low pressure trying to make one more run northward are being abandoned as it looks like the high will indeed win out.
TODAY: Clouds and sprinkles linger Cape Cod into midday otherwise sunshine and passing clouds elsewhere. Highs in the 70s. Wind N 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 45-53, coolest interior valleys. Wind light N.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 65-72. Wind N to NE 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Lows 45-53, coolest valleys. Highs 67-74.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 47-55. Highs 65-72.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 50-58. Highs 70-78.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 25-29)…
Big high pressure area builds out of Canada and slowly sinks southward during this 5-day period with dry weather throughout, starting cool and breezy early in the period and eventually warming up later in the period to above normal levels.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 30-OCTOBER 4)…
A little more influence from the jet stream sending a couple fronts through during this period. Temperatures overall still above normal with rainfall below normal with a long term mild/dry regime in place.

    1. We’ll have an October threat from a TS on the East Coast. Still a quiet season overall in terms of impact.

  1. Thanks Tk:) I’m noticing very little advancement in fall colors from the hints of color starting in late Aug. lots of green. Is the fall foliage going to be late this year?

    1. Later than average by about 1 week due to the warm September. Since the angle and length of sun is the biggest trigger, it’s nearly impossible to get colors ahead of or behind normal by more than about 10-14 days in the most extreme scenarios. This ranks less than the most extreme, but the dry/warm long term pattern will have an impact. Some trees will be briefly brilliant, others more muted. Color comes late but leaf drop probably rapid right after peak.

  2. Somehow McD’s gave us 3 coffees even tho I ordered 2. I used to take home 3 on Sunday mornings, one for me, one for Mom, and one for Dad. I only paid for 2 today. My mom says it’s a good omen, or somehow an unknowing tribute to my dad that we got an extra. I’ll reheat it and drink it later today in Dad’s honor. 🙂

    1. Took me a while to clear the tears so I could see to post. Perhaps your dad letting you know he is fine and still/always with you.

  3. Dad’s already exercising his obsession with turning the lights off in the basement (sometimes shutting us into the dark) as he always did. As a child growing up in the depression he became quite aware of the need to conserve and this never left him. My brother joked the other day that we’ll see lights turning off with no explanation now. Helping Mom with laundry, went to turn on the light switch, and nothing happened. So I went to the 1st floor to flick the other one (it’s a 2-way switch one basement and one first floor). I merely laid my finger on the switch, did NOT flick it, and the light went on by itself. 😉

  4. I just posted on FB and will include it here that I saw a fleet of snow plows in east Woburn near Route 93. 😉

      1. For a moment I thought it might be Charlie, but it was the wrong side of Boston…… 😉

I’m guessing they were heading to a local parade somewhere or some kind of truck show.

  5. GFS is still having issues in the middle and end of its runs. It was glaringly evident that something was up when it started with the 5-10 inches of rain later next week on one run and then cut that back to 0.25 inch or less on the next run. Don’t trust it until further notice…

  6. Ridge is the story with occasional jet stream intrusions for the next several weeks. It’s a warm/dry pattern. And it will translate into a mild/dry pattern late Fall and early Winter, and a cooler and slightly closer to average but still drier than average pattern as we progress through Winter and then lead to the warming Spring and blazing Summer of 2016. So far the long-term regime is behaving just as expected under the large scale atmospheric and oceanic conditions that exist.

  7. And as usual, after 1 series, a bunch of people think the Pats have the worst defense in the league. Endless amusement. Patience required as a football fan? They should know this by now. 😀

          1. They started off throwing more than I thought they would. Didnt make sense to me but then who am I

            Isn’t that TD 399?

  8. Vicki were in a lot of trouble now. Dez Bryant gone 10-12 weeks and now Romo going to probably miss significant time. Were 2-0 but in both wins we lost key people.

      1. They may get into the playoffs just because the way the NFC East is but I don’t see a deep run even if we get in and those chances took a big hit.

        1. I actually just recently talked to a couple dallas fans, and they said no shot, I’ve been to 2 dallas home games and you have 30,000 of the opponents team screaming practically putting romo into a silent count. A lot has changed over 21yrs 😉

    1. JJ, yea but you never know and I have a feeling you will enjoy the season because you enjoy your team. To Me that is what a fan is and it is those fans who hold up a team.

  9. As I say, keep the rain away!! Let the sun shine, and shine away!!! The lawns look great, thankful to the dew (aka natural watering) in the mornings. 🙂

  10. I love football, bc many don’t understand the game and schematics, no disrespect to many, but it’s just so true. 🙂

    1. I think that you think that Charlie is the only one who knows about the game of football. But no disrespect right.
