Monday Forecast Update

2:04AM

DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 21-25)…
Other than low pressure to the south getting close enough for some cloudiness Tuesday, high pressure will be in control of the weather during this period. It will be on the cooler side to start the week as the first high builds down from Canada, warmer midweek as the high settles more to the south, then cooler again to end the work week as a dry front passes and opens the door for another high from Canada.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 66-73. Wind N to NE 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 46-53. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs 65-72. Wind E 10-20 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 45-52. Highs 68-75.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 48-55. Highs 70-78.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 46-53. Highs 65-72.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 26-30)…
High pressure moves down from the north then builds over the region, finally sinking to the south later in the period as the cycle repeats with a new high in Canada ready to move in by period’s end. Cool nights and mild days will dominate the early part of the period followed by a warming trend.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 1-5)…
Yet another high builds in with more dry weather for the first few days of the period then finally a risk of some shower activity later in the period. Temperatures near to mostly above normal.

  1. Thanks, as always, TK…

However, all you need for today’s blog is from Earth, Wind and Fire:

    Do you remember the
    21st night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
    While chasing the clouds away…

Ba de ya – say do you remember
Ba de ya – dancing in September?
Ba de ya – never was a cloudy day!!!!

    Boogie down, everyone!
    Happy Monday!

  2. It’s also the 77th anniversary of the Great Hurricane of 1938.

There’s a wonderful documentary on the storm. It’s called “Wake of 1938” produced by Rhode Island Public Television. It has news reel footage and home movies of the hurricane and is extremely well-done. For those of you who have WSBE Channel 36 (FiOS Channel 8 and 508…not sure other cable providers) and WSBE Learn, it’s on about 10 times this week. It’s on at 4 am tomorrow morning. Set the DVR. It’s well worth watching!

    1. We saw it last night on Channel 11 on our cable last night. Very interesting and well done. At one point in the documentary it was mentioned how people shouldn’t build so close to the coast due to potential storms. After all these years – people still do it. I know we have built better protection but on that one chance that we get a real bad storm – even the best built protection may not help. Oh, well. Just an opinion.

      1. Hi rainshine. I’ve mentioned on here before that after Hugo, especially on Isle of Palms, SC said that they would not permit the rebuilding of the homes right along the beach that were completely destroyed. Within about three years, those homes had been rebuilt. Makes no sense.

It is a bit different up here, I think. Mac keeps saying that Humarock, for instance, will be gone one of these days but there it stands. I’m not sure it will be just the storms, though, as the ocean is rising also.

        1. Thanks, Vicki. Really – I didn’t know that the ocean is rising. Actually a bit scary to know that. Our world – our environment – everything is changing. Yes, the Earth has changed through the centuries, but I feel the changes occuring now are not for the best.

          1. It is rising more along our coast than, I believe, most other places. I know this is from Hufpo but it is interesting and they are just reporting findings.

What I see are tides closer to houses than they were a decade ago. Friends who have a home in Kennebunkport say that they notice there is far less beach at high tide than historically noted.

But, I am a bit torn on how this all works. There are structures, for instance, put in place in Humarock decades ago…possibly a century. They have been under the sand now as long as I can remember which is back about 60 years. Some are starting to surface and others have yet to be seen. But back in the early to mid 1900s they were not under the sand.

I do not know what buried them to begin with or how that works and what is now uncovering them. Maybe TK or Tom or some folks here familiar with tides, etc. have a better grasp.

Sorry – I’m working and typing in between so apologize if this makes no sense.

  3. Starting today at 9am until further notice, the city of Attleboro has ordered a full water ban on lawn watering. Only handheld devices can be used.

    1. Welcome to my world since May.

I have my irrigation on two times a week. Just enough to keep it 60% green and 40% yellow.

  4. No meaningful rain for a very long time it appears. This will have implications for 2016 but frankly is not coming as a surprise.

    1. No, it isn’t a surprise, especially as it has been the case for quite a while now. It worries me that you do not see rain and then for winter you are not seeing a great deal of snow. The snow worries me also because the ski areas have struggled for years, even with the ability to make snow.

      1. It looks accurate to me if you read it. This was registered on Tuesday the 15th, and we just received rain that past Sunday. I suspect this weeks report will show more areas in need of rain.

  5. It’s September – getting closer to October. I know everyone (including me) loves this sunny, beautiful weather. But autumn to me means some grey, rainy days. And I would like to see a stretch of rainy days – mainly because we need the rain. But, as TK says, it appears we won’t be seeing that for some time.

  6. Good morning. What a beautiful day it is. Yet another in a long string of gorgeous days!
    We have been truly blessed.

  7. We bottomed out at 36F here in Plymouth, NH this morning. Heading for another beauty near 70 though! Not a drop of rain in sight.

  8. Thanks Tk 🙂

Keep the rain away!! Looks like long term as Tk has said it stays overall very dry through October 🙂

  9. It is a clear and beautiful day – and there may be some high cirrus clouds around too but is there some smoke in the air? I’ve noticed some in the past several days. Especially during sunsets. You can almost smell some smoke in the air. My sister in Framingham says she smells some smoke. And this was before the fire in Haverhill. Could we be getting the remnants of the fires in CA?

    1. I hadnt noticed but my eyes have been itchy so I wonder. The blue as I look now is filtered but a lot of high cirrus as you said

  10. The nice stretch of weather surprises me much less than the total lack of rain. I think fall tends to give us lots of really nice days. Often brighter and clearer than summer. But, we usually do get at least some beneficial rain events thrown into the mix. Nothing this year.

It’s raining off and on every day in the Netherlands. They wish they could export some of that. I recall many Septembers and Octobers in Holland with nearly constant light rain. That’s the norm there in fall and winter.

  11. The Boston Athenaeum is holding an event this evening on global warming. It’s called Boston: Sink or Swim. The event features a panel discussion on the impact of climate change on Boston and the surrounding areas. The panel is moderated by Cynthia Barnhart, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Chancellor and Ford Foundation Professor of Engineering; and features MIT faculty members Alan Berger, Professor of Landscape Architecture and Urban Design; Kerry Emanuel, Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Atmospheric Science; and Markus Buehler, Professor and Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

You can watch and listen live, starting at 6pm:

      1. That’s ok. Definitely weather quiet so if you get the work done then you can be here when it isn’t quiet 🙂 🙂 🙂

  12. Awesome sky this evening. We don’t need big events, we have great sights. 😀 Will link a few pics shortly. 🙂
